The October 5, 2026 PC Gamer feature titled “These are my 12 PS2-pilled recommendations from the Steam Autumn Sale” names 11 games in its accessible article text: six modern releases inspired by sixth-generation games and five classic console-era titles now available on PC. The missing twelfth pick cannot be identified from the published list, so this guide covers the 11 recommendations that are actually named.
Here, “PS2-pilled” has two meanings: newer games that echo the era’s design sensibilities, and older favorites from the PlayStation 2, Dreamcast, GameCube and Xbox generation. The discounts below are PC Gamer’s October 5 sale snapshots, not current prices. Valve’s Steamworks event schedule lists the 2026 Steam Autumn Sale as running October 1–8, ending at 10 a.m. Pacific.

Modern games with sixth-generation sensibilities
These are not PS2 ports. PC Gamer writer Samuel Roberts connects them to the older generation through their influences, tone or style; those comparisons are editorial rather than a claim that each game formally adapts a particular classic.
Promise Mascot Agency
This open-world management game puts you in charge of sending Japanese mascots to events while exploring an island. Side quests can add mascots to your roster or improve your truck. Its creators cite Disaster Report and Persona 4 among its influences. Director Oli Clarke Smith told RPG Site, “6 and 7 out of 10 PS2 games are what I live for.” PC Gamer listed it at 40% off, for $15 in the US and £13 in the UK, on October 5.

Hi-Fi Rush
Hi-Fi Rush combines rhythm-action with 3D hack-and-slash combat and cel-shaded visuals. Roberts sees echoes of PS2-era rhythm games and Devil May Cry, while noting that the game also draws on film and is not simply a replica of one older title. PC Gamer listed it at 55% off, for $13.49 in the US and £12.14 in the UK, on October 5.
Denshattack!
This stunt-focused speedrunning game has you boosting and grinding a train through a corporate-owned version of Japan. Roberts points to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio as reference points, but describes the result as its own creation. PC Gamer listed it at 25% off, for $15 in the US and £12 in the UK, on October 5.

Sifu
Sifu is a serious-toned martial-arts brawler. PC Gamer reports that developer Sloclap identified God Hand as an influence; Roberts draws a comparison between their physical hand-to-hand combat and customizable combos. The October 5 listing showed 75% off, with prices of $10 in the US and £8 in the UK.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
This action-strategy hybrid asks you to recruit villagers and use them to defend a maiden from demons. Roberts places it alongside Capcom’s more unconventional PS2-era output. PC Gamer reported an 86% score and listed a 25% discount on October 5, giving prices of £30 and £25 without clearly identifying which market each amount belongs to.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Roberts compares the game’s world-building and story to Final Fantasy X: an existential threat returns in cycles while people try to live in a beautiful world facing doom. He treats the combat resemblance as less direct, mentioning Lost Odyssey and Sekiro instead. PC Gamer listed it at 20% off, for $40 in the US and £34 in the UK, on October 5.

These recommendations are original-era games or modern editions of them, rather than new releases merely borrowing the period’s style. PC Gamer’s classic-games section was framed around titles that had not received a PC release at the time, but the accessible list names five, not the six promised in the feature’s headline and introduction.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
One PC route to the original is Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1; the feature also mentions the Delta remake. Roberts prefers the original PS2 aesthetic and praises its story and boss battles. The October 5 listing showed the Master Collection at 50% off, for $30 in the US and £25 in the UK. The remake was listed at 30% off, but no price was given in the visible article text.

Roberts singles out Final Fantasy X for its readable combat and progression, the distinctive world of Spira and its soundtrack. For readers looking beyond this collection, the feature also names Phantom Brave, Tales of Symphonia, Grandia 2 and Kingdom Hearts as other Steam options for PS2-era Japanese role-playing games. PC Gamer listed Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster at 60% off, for $12 in the US and £8 in the UK, on October 5.

Rez Infinite
Rez is a rhythm shooter with a Y2K aesthetic; it released in Japan on both PS2 and Dreamcast. Rez Infinite brings the game to modern platforms and adds an expansion. PC Gamer listed it at 70% off, for $8 in the US and £6 in the UK, on October 5.
Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster
This atmospheric, challenging monster-battling RPG is known in the UK as Shin Megami Tensei III: Lucifer’s Call. Roberts writes about his own history with the game; that personal perspective is his, not a general measure of how players will respond to it. PC Gamer listed the remaster at 70% off, for $15 in the US and £13 in the UK, on October 5.
Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny
Roberts highlights the branching story points tied to relationships with four warrior companions. He describes the combat as sitting between fixed-camera survival horror and hack-and-slash action, and recommends it as a good Steam Deck game. PC Gamer listed it at 50% off, for $15 in the US and £12.49 in the UK, on October 5.
Quick Recap
How to read the list and its sale prices
- Choose the modern picks if you want new games that evoke older design, rather than original sixth-generation releases.
- Choose the classic section if you want games from that console era in modern PC editions. The named options range from role-playing games to rhythm action and sword combat.
- Treat every discount as historical. The dollar and pound figures above were listed by PC Gamer on October 5, 2026. They do not establish what a game costs now, and the official event schedule gives the Autumn Sale an October 8 end time at 10 a.m. Pacific.
- Do not assume the list is complete. The headline and introduction promise 12 recommendations, but only 11 titles appear in the accessible article text. The unlisted pick is not established.
