Provincial Player is a Windows PC adventure and simulation game from Gershwin Research Group, published by WinDArities. Steam lists its release date as 15 October 2026. You play Art Billy, a professional billiards player who arrives in the strange provincial town of Kozyulsk. The documented campaign objective is to turn an initial $50 into $500 and reach the grand final at the Golden Goat club. Billiards matches are only one part of that route. Point-and-click exploration, conversations and club-specific opportunities determine which matches and paths become available.

The official description’s advice—“Talk to people. Listen carefully. Take risks.”—is a practical description of the game loop. Dialogue can unlock new routes and better matches; clubs have their own stories, rules and opportunities; and money can be won or lost through betting and side activities.
Provincial Player controls: what is confirmed and how to set them up
The published Steam description does not provide a binding table for keyboard, mouse or controller actions. SteamDB records a controller-related configuration flag, but that metadata is not a complete control map. Do not rely on a generic billiards control scheme or assume that a particular key performs a specific action.
Check the controls before starting a serious wager
- Launch the game and open its settings or options menu from the title screen or pause menu.

Use the following order whenever you enter a new area. It keeps story information ahead of financial risk and makes it easier to identify why a match is unavailable.
- Explore the current club or town area. Speak with every character who offers dialogue before committing to a table. A conversation may reveal a route, an opponent, a rule or a better match.
- Record what each person tells you. Note names, club references, amounts, conditions and any suggestion that a risk is worthwhile. The game’s clubs are not interchangeable; their stories, rules and opportunities differ.
- Identify the next progression opportunity. If a character mentions a match or a new location, pursue that lead before spending the bankroll on unrelated activities.
- Choose a stake you can survive. Betting is part of the money-management system. Keep enough cash to continue exploring and accepting the next required match instead of committing the entire bankroll to one attempt.
- Play the appropriate billiards format. The game includes American pool, snooker and carom. Read the match description and any dialogue for the applicable rules; a tactic or objective from one format may not transfer to another.
- Revisit characters after a win, loss or new clue. A changed bankroll or completed match can alter which path is useful. Return to earlier clubs rather than assuming that the last table you visited contains the only route forward.
- Measure progress against $500. The target is not simply to win the next game. A wager is valuable when it moves Art Billy toward the required bankroll or unlocks the route to the Golden Goat final.
How dialogue functions as your quest map
Talk before you play

Listen for conditions, not just story
When a character discusses a club or opponent, separate useful facts from atmosphere. Look for the name of a place, the type of match, the amount at stake, a warning about risk and any condition that must be met first. Treat those details as a working quest log even if the interface does not present a conventional checklist.
Return when a path is blocked
A locked route does not necessarily mean that you need to grind random matches. Speak to people again after completing a nearby conversation, changing your bankroll or finishing a match. The club structure means that an earlier character may provide the next link once the story state changes.

Dice, slot machines and other side activities

- Do not use money reserved for a known match or progression condition.

Speak with every accessible character again, including people in clubs you visited earlier. Conversations unlock paths and better matches, so a missing opponent may indicate an incomplete dialogue path rather than insufficient wins.
You cannot afford the next wager
Stop placing large bets and look for lower-risk matches or unresolved conversations. The objective is to grow $50 toward $500; spending the remaining bankroll on a desperate attempt can remove the ability to reach the next lead.
The match rules are unclear
Read the on-screen instructions and ask characters for context before taking the table. Because the game uses three formats and club-specific rules, do not assume that a familiar term has the same objective in every match.
A control does not work
Pause and inspect the in-game bindings, then check Steam Input. Confirm that the controller is recognized by Steam, select an appropriate layout and test the action in a low-stakes situation. Published metadata does not provide a universal key map, so a specific key cannot be prescribed reliably.

A previous loss changed your options
Recheck dialogue and available clubs after the loss. Money comes and goes in the game’s stated design, and the correct recovery is to identify the next affordable opportunity rather than assume that the same wager must be repeated.
