Instead of medieval castles and heroic power curves, players investigate the Mordenheim Kinetics technology company through damaged laboratories, ruined offices, terminals, futuristic corridors, killer machines and implanted memories. GamesRadar+’s October 15, 2026 report compares its atmosphere to Resident Evil mixed with Control; that is a description of tone and setting, not a licensed crossover.
What Project_Lamordia is
The product combines a present-day setting guide with three short, connected one-shot adventures involving Mordenheim Kinetics. D&D Beyond describes it as a modern reinterpretation of one of Ravenloft’s Domains of Dread: an “AI-gone-wrong nightmare” inside a laboratory filled with mechanistic terrors and failed experiments.

Its central mystery concerns the company’s technology and the consequences of its experiments. The setting supports corporate espionage, emergency exploration and escape rather than a traditional quest for treasure. Terminals, ruined workspaces and artificial systems provide the investigation framework, while robots and other failed creations supply the immediate danger.
Why the Resident Evil and Control comparison fits
Survival-horror pressure
Characters are encouraged to use the Survivor option: figures with very low health and limited abilities. They are not durable fantasy heroes who can absorb several encounters and recover between them. A bad fight can force the group to retreat, hide, improvise or abandon an objective, making escape a core part of play.

A corporate nightmare instead of a dungeon
Mordenheim Kinetics replaces the usual dungeon vocabulary with laboratories, offices, security systems and high-tech corridors. Players uncover what happened by moving through a damaged facility and interpreting its records, not simply by clearing rooms of monsters. The resulting structure explains the Control comparison: a familiar workplace becomes an unstable, hostile environment shaped by technology and altered memory.
Mechanistic threats
The danger comes from AI failures, killer robots and other experiments that have gone wrong. They create a different texture from a conventional Ravenloft encounter with a vampire, werewolf or ghost. The horror is still rooted in Lamordia’s tradition of unethical creation, but its presentation is contemporary and technological.

How the Lamordia connection works
Lamordia is the Frankenstein-inspired Domain of Dread associated with Viktra Mordenheim. Project_Lamordia carries that legacy into a present-day facility operated by Mordenheim Kinetics. The product therefore works as an accessible modern scenario while retaining a recognizable Ravenloft foundation.

What a Halloween session looks like
- Choose the Survivor approach. Use the fragile character option encouraged by the adventure so that danger is established immediately. Explain that staying alive and getting out may matter more than defeating every threat.
- Set expectations for modern horror. Tell players they will investigate a technology company, search terminals and damaged work areas, and deal with machines and failed experiments rather than a medieval fantasy dungeon.
- Reserve one sitting. GamesRadar+ describes the three adventures as bite-sized enough to finish in one sitting. Allow time for character creation, safety tools and a short break, then run the scenarios as a compact event rather than stretching them into a campaign.
- Make information valuable. Treat records, warnings and implanted memories as clues that explain the facility. The group should have reasons to search and move forward even when combat is too risky.
- Keep escape meaningful. Because Survivors have little health and limited abilities, allow retreat, concealment and route changes to matter. The tension comes from choosing what to risk, not from assuming every encounter must end in victory.
Project_Lamordia compared with other formats
| Feature | Project_Lamordia | Conventional D&D fantasy | Dedicated horror RPG example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Setting | Modern technology company, laboratories and damaged offices | Usually medieval or fantasy environments | Built around horror from the outset |
| Character durability | Fragile Survivors with very low health and limited abilities | Heroic progression and increasingly capable characters | Varies by game; often emphasizes vulnerability |
| Scenario length | Three short adventures intended to fit a single sitting | Often part of a longer campaign arc | May support one-shots or extended campaigns |
| Threat style | AI failures, killer robots and failed experiments | Monsters, villains and hazards from the fantasy ruleset | Depends on the system and its setting |
| Delivery | Digital content on D&D Beyond | Digital or physical adventures | Usually a separate RPG rulebook and adventure line |
GamesRadar+ praised Project_Lamordia’s atmosphere but said it does not reach the intensity of dedicated horror games such as Alien RPG Evolved Edition. That is the reviewer’s judgment, not an objective score. The distinction is useful: this is D&D adapted for a tense modern one-shot, not a complete replacement for a horror system built around sustained dread.
Who should play it
- D&D groups wanting a different genre: The modern setting changes the visual language and objectives without requiring a new role-playing system.
- Halloween hosts: Three compact scenarios and a single-sitting design make the product easier to schedule than a full campaign.
- Ravenloft fans: The Mordenheim and Lamordia connection preserves the setting’s Frankenstein-inspired identity while updating its technology.
- Players who prefer tactical survival: Limited health and abilities make retreat and resource-conscious decisions important.
It may be a weaker fit for groups seeking a long campaign, high-powered heroes or the uncompromising intensity of a dedicated horror RPG. Its appeal is the collision of familiar D&D rules with a contained, modern facility nightmare.

Bottom line for a Halloween game night
Project_Lamordia is a practical Halloween one-shot for D&D players who want corporate science-fiction horror without learning a new system. Its three short adventures, fragile Survivor characters and Mordenheim Kinetics setting create the Resident Evil-and-Control flavor GamesRadar+ identified, while the Lamordia connection anchors the experiment in Ravenloft. Use it when the goal is a tense evening of investigation and escape rather than a full-length campaign or the maximum possible horror intensity.
