Profit Analytics for Turkish Marketplace Sellers: What a Trustworthy SaaS Must Get Right

A profit analytics product for Turkish marketplace sellers must reconcile orders with returns, discounts, commissions, delivery charges and payout records—not relabel gross sales as profit. Trendyol’s published finance documentation provides a concrete example of why: it records many transaction types, reversals and adjustments across separate data flows. The available public evidence does not identify a particular SaaS, founder, customer base or business outcome, so the lessons here are a practical, evidence-grounded guide to building one, not claims about an unnamed company’s experience.

Why marketplace sales data is not a profit report

An order total answers what a customer bought for, not what the seller earned. A useful analytics product has to explain the financial path from an order to its settlement and, separately, to the seller’s own estimate of profit. Those are related views, but they are not interchangeable.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Order economics describes sales and order-level costs, including the effect of cancellations and returns.
  • Marketplace settlement explains platform-recorded transactions and the amounts associated with payout periods.
  • Estimated business profit additionally depends on seller-specific inputs such as product cost, packaging, advertising and overhead. The platform records cited here do not establish that every such cost is available through its API.

A payout is a cash movement, not a complete profit calculation. A dashboard that equates payout with profit can conceal timing differences and costs that were never included in the settlement data.

Model the transaction ledger before designing the dashboard

Trendyol’s finance documentation names distinct transaction types, including sales, returns, discounts, coupons, provision adjustments, manual refunds, delivery fees and commission changes. Some entries reverse earlier transactions; others distinguish seller-funded from Trendyol-funded promotions. Treating every row as a generic fee—or every positive row as revenue—can produce misleading totals.

Record or category What the product should preserve
Sale and return Keep the original sale and its return as identifiable events. A return should affect the relevant sales view without erasing the history that explains the change.
Discount and coupon Retain the transaction type and whether the entry is seller-funded or Trendyol-funded where the record identifies that distinction. Do not assume every promotion reduces seller proceeds in the same way.
Provision adjustments and manual refunds Keep the source type, amount, date and relationship to the affected transaction. Avoid folding these into an unexplained fee total.
Seller revenue and commission adjustments Evaluate related entries together. Trendyol’s guidance pairs SellerRevenuePositive with CommissionNegative, SellerRevenueNegative with CommissionPositive, and documents corresponding cancellation adjustments.
Delivery fees and cancellation forms Preserve the transaction’s sign and its cancellation or reversal relationship. The correct interpretation depends on the actual record, not a generic assumption about shipping.

This table describes a modeling approach inferred from the documented transaction taxonomy; it is not a claim that every seller sees every type on every order. The product should retain the raw source row alongside its normalized interpretation so that a seller can inspect how a total was derived.

Separate event records from payout-period reconciliation

Trendyol documents settlement, other-financial and payment-order records as separate services. Payment orders group records by payout period, so an order-level view alone cannot explain every settlement, and a payout view alone may not explain the underlying order activity. A sound data model keeps both: an event-level ledger for financial activity and a reconciliation layer that connects those events to payment orders.

In particular, do not silently net paired revenue and commission adjustments into one opaque number. Show their individual source entries, the rule used to associate them, and the resulting effect on the seller-facing total. If the association is uncertain, mark it for review rather than presenting a precise answer without an audit trail.

Build ingestion around timing, windows and pagination

Trendyol’s documented settlement workflow has practical constraints that affect both system design and what a dashboard can honestly call “current.” Its guidance says financial records for an order are created after delivery; date-range queries are limited to 15 days; retrieval is paginated; and settlement and other-financial records may not be immediately complete after a payment order is created.

  1. Choose the documented query mode. The integration guidance describes transaction-date filters as well as payment-date or payout-order queries. Use the mode that matches the view being built, and retain the query window in sync metadata.
  2. Keep date windows within the 15-day maximum. Split a longer historical backfill into valid windows instead of relying on a request that exceeds the documented limit.
  3. Fetch every page. The documentation describes page sizes up to 500 or 1,000 settlement rows, depending on the endpoint. Confirm the limit for the exact endpoint and API version in use; do not assume a single page is complete.
  4. Reconcile by payment order where appropriate. One documented recommended flow queries a payment order and then retrieves its associated records.
  5. Allow for late-arriving data. If records have not finished updating after payment-order creation, the guidance advises querying again the following day. Keep the sync state visible rather than presenting a partial result as final.

These are platform-specific implementation details, not universal marketplace rules. A robust connector should make its last successful sync, covered period, outstanding pages and correction history inspectable. The dashboard can then distinguish “not yet synced” from “no transactions.”

Define the integration boundary and version policy

Trendyol describes its API as supporting marketplace workflows such as product transfer, stock and price updates, order processing and invoice submission. Its Seller Center also includes product, finance, order and reporting areas, and the platform FAQ describes direct API connections as well as integrator-based connections. For a profit analytics product, the narrower initial boundary can be to ingest marketplace records, normalize them and let the seller add costs that the platform feed does not establish.

As of October 11, 2026, Trendyol’s developer homepage says Product V2 and Order V2 are live and announces that Product V1 and Order V1 will be deactivated on October 15, 2026. That is an imminent, dated migration notice, not a durable guarantee about future versions. A production connector should verify the live, versioned documentation before implementation and maintain an explicit migration plan rather than hard-coding a version assumption into product copy or onboarding.

Make reconciliation understandable to the seller

Trust depends on being able to answer why a number changed. The Türkiye Competition Authority’s summary of its Trendyol investigation reported allegations that some sellers lacked adequate payment information and that shipping margins in seller-carrier arrangements were high. It also described commitments involving real-time, trackable seller data and more user-friendly financial-status interfaces. These are allegations and reported commitments; they do not establish that every seller experienced the same problem.

The product implication is to make provenance part of the interface, not an engineering-only feature. A seller should be able to move from a summary amount to the underlying platform transaction, its date, its type, and any linked adjustment or reversal. If data is delayed, the interface should say what period or records are incomplete. If the product estimates profit using seller-entered costs, label those inputs and separate the estimate from platform-reported settlement figures.

Represent the costs the platform feed cannot establish

Marketplace records can explain platform transactions; they do not by themselves establish a seller’s complete cost base. A product should give sellers a way to represent applicable product costs and other expenses—such as packaging, advertising, tax treatment or overhead—without implying that these fields are supplied automatically by Trendyol. The exact cost model should be clear enough to show which figures are imported and which are entered or configured by the seller.

Keep the calculation explainable: show the components and their sources, preserve the seller’s original inputs, and make corrections traceable. Do not market an estimate as a tax or accounting determination. Legal, tax and data-protection requirements depend on the product’s actual operating model and current Turkish rules; the platform documentation alone does not settle them.

Account for a market with many small sellers and concentrated volume

The 2023 “E-commerce ecosystem in Türkiye” report by iyzico, with Dogma Alares analysis, counted micro businesses—defined there as annual revenue below TL 10 million—as 93.5% of e-commerce sellers but 3.6% of sales volume. Large businesses, defined as annual revenue above TL 500 million, were 0.4% of sellers and 78.3% of volume. The same report put fashion and accessories at 31.0% of sellers by sector; that is a seller-count share, not a share of sales value.

These historical figures point to a product-design tension, not proof of market demand: a broad population of smaller sellers may need quick setup and plain-language explanations, while sales volume is concentrated among a small share of businesses. The figures are from 2023 and should not be presented as current estimates or as evidence that a particular SaaS can acquire customers. Trendyol separately reports around 40 million customers and 250,000 sellers on its corporate page; those are company-reported figures without a publication date in the page extract, not independently audited market statistics.

Keep domestic selling distinct from micro-export

Trendyol’s marketplace business-model documentation distinguishes domestic Turkish workflows from micro-export. For micro-export listings, it identifies HS code and country of origin as required product details and places responsibility for their accuracy on the seller. It also describes product, stock and price, order-package, return and invoice processes. Those details may matter if a product expands across seller workflows, but cross-border product and transaction requirements should not be folded into a domestic profit model by default.

The seller-facing FAQ also discusses reports for sales, cancellations and returns, and marketplace costs such as per-item commission and shipping or return logistics charges. Its material includes domestic and international or Gulf contexts. Do not carry an international payout, currency, return-period or shipping rule over to domestic Turkish sellers without checking the exact storefront and current terms.

A practical evaluation checklist for the product

Whether building a connector or choosing an analytics tool, assess the depth of reconciliation rather than relying on a headline profit number:

  • Reconciliation: Can it connect order and event views to settlement and payment-order records?
  • Transaction coverage: Does it preserve returns, cancellations, coupons, seller-funded discounts, commissions, delivery fees and adjustment reversals?
  • Freshness and auditability: Can a seller see sync status, delayed records, source-row detail and correction history?
  • Cost model: Can seller-entered product cost and other relevant expenses be represented separately from imported marketplace data?
  • Seller fit: Is setup and interpretation manageable for a small seller, while supporting the more complex workflows of larger or multi-store operations?

These are design criteria derived from the documented data structure and the historical seller distribution, not a benchmark of named analytics products. The strongest product promise is not a mysterious “true profit” figure; it is a traceable explanation of what the platform recorded, what the seller supplied, what remains incomplete and how the displayed result was calculated.
