The appointment was announced on October 6, 2026. His announced remit is to develop the campus’s academic, research, innovation and industry ecosystem; the announcement does not specify programmes, admissions dates or a campus opening date.
Who is Mohan Krishnamoorthy?
BITS Pilani describes Krishnamoorthy as a professor of operations research with a PhD from Imperial College London. At the time of the announcement, he is Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor (India Engagement) at RMIT University and director of BITS Pilani’s Industry Research and Interactive Learning Solutions (IRIS).

His institution-building experience includes serving as founding CEO of the IIT Bombay–Monash Research Academy and initiating the UQ–IIT Delhi Research Academy. These roles are relevant to the new appointment because BITS Pilani has assigned him responsibility for developing an institutional ecosystem, not just overseeing an already specified set of courses.

Krishnamoorthy called the role “both a tremendous privilege and an exciting responsibility.” BITS Pilani Group Vice Chancellor Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao said his experience creating research and institutional ecosystems would be valuable as the institution develops the campus around emerging technologies, innovation and entrepreneurship. These are remarks in BITS Pilani’s announcement, rather than an independent assessment.
