What Meta says about privacy controls on its glasses
Choosing an alternative is not the only way to assess the trade-off. Meta says its Meta AI app includes preferences for captures, voice, and notifications, and lets users manage information shared with Meta. Meta also says captures remain on the glasses until transferred to a phone; taking photos or recording video for the gallery or streaming activates notification and capture LEDs, and voice recordings can be deleted. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of its controls, not an independent assessment of every workflow.
Meta advises users to ask permission before capturing people and to avoid using the glasses in sensitive places or locations where privacy is expected. That guidance is relevant regardless of which assistant processes a recording: people nearby may be affected by capture even when the wearer has account or deletion controls.

Meta says its second-generation glasses disable the camera if someone blocks the capture LED, and that it is updating devices to disable the camera if tampering with or destruction of the light is detected. Meta says the design is intended to keep off-device data inaccessible during covered processing, including to Meta. The company also acknowledges that a deeply personal, stateful assistant requires cloud work and says the system had focused to date on discrete tasks such as summarizing a message.
