There is no single PRISM Live Studio bitrate that works for every Indian broadband connection. Test the upload speed on the same device and connection you will stream with, then choose a bitrate for your resolution, frame rate and encoder that the connection can sustain steadily. PRISM and YouTube publish different recommendations for some settings, so follow one source’s figures as a set rather than combining them.
How to choose a bitrate for your connection
- Test upload speed where you will stream. Run a speed test on the streaming device, using the same Wi-Fi or wired connection and at a time similar to your planned stream. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate; a single result is not a guarantee of sustained performance. (YouTube Help: live encoder settings)
- Choose resolution and frame rate. Higher resolution and frame rate require more bandwidth and computer performance. If your connection or computer struggles, reduce resolution or FPS before raising bitrate. (PRISM Live Studio desktop FAQ; PRISM performance guide)
- Match the recommendation to your encoder. H.264 figures differ from AV1/H.265 figures. Use the PRISM or YouTube row that matches your encoder and output; do not treat figures from different tables as one universal setting.
- Test an actual stream. Check whether the stream remains stable and the picture is smooth. If it drops frames, buffers or becomes unstable, lower bitrate, resolution or frame rate and test again.
The published figures below are platform recommendations, not measurements of Indian broadband service. The official guidance reviewed does not establish a typical Indian upload speed or a universal upload-headroom percentage.

PRISM desktop recommendations for YouTube
PRISM’s desktop FAQ lists the following YouTube settings. The page publication year is not stated; these figures were accessed in 2026. Use its codec-specific recommendations as a group, rather than merging them with YouTube’s separate table. (PRISM Live Studio desktop FAQ)

PRISM warns that higher resolution, bitrate and FPS can strain both computer performance and network bandwidth. Its table is not a promise that a particular broadband plan or Wi-Fi connection can sustain the listed rate.

YouTube’s separate encoder recommendations
YouTube Help’s live ingestion table gives different values for some combinations. It recommends running a speed test to check upload bitrate and recommends RTMPS for live streaming. For example, PRISM lists 12,000 kbps for H.264 at 1080p60, while YouTube lists 17 Mbps for that combination. These are different published recommendations, not a measurement showing which setting a specific Indian connection can handle. Check the current app and YouTube guidance when configuring a stream.

PRISM Live Studio on mobile
PRISM’s mobile guide gives general starting points of 4,000 kbps at 720p and 6,000 kbps at 1080p. It also offers adaptive bitrate, which adjusts stream quality to network conditions; PRISM recommends that new mobile streamers leave adaptive bitrate on. Fixes for an unstable stream
- Bitrate exceeds what the connection sustains: Lower the bitrate and test again. If needed, reduce resolution or FPS to lower the stream’s demands.
- Wi-Fi link between computer and router is unstable: For a desktop setup, try Ethernet as an optional way to improve the local connection. A cable cannot add upstream capacity that the broadband service does not provide.
- Computer performance is strained: Reduce resolution, bitrate or FPS; PRISM identifies these as settings that can put strain on the PC as well as the network.
- Mobile connection changes during streaming: Keep PRISM mobile adaptive bitrate enabled, then lower resolution or frame rate if the stream remains uneven.
- Settings do not match the encoder: Check whether PRISM is using H.264 or AV1/H.265 and use the corresponding platform guidance. Do not apply a rate from the other codec’s row.
