The answer depends on your country, the date, your plan and whether a movie is included, locked or separately paid for. Check a short list of films in both local services before subscribing or cancelling—and inspect the access label, not just the search result.
How to check whether your movies are available
- Make a watchlist. Write down the specific movies you want to watch. A service’s overall library size will not tell you whether those titles are available where you live.
- Search your local Prime Video and Netflix apps or websites. Catalogs vary by country and change over time, so a result from another region—or an old availability list—is not reliable evidence for your location today.
- Check how each result can be watched. On Prime Video, open the title page and look for whether it is included with Prime or offered to rent or buy. On Netflix, confirm it is available under your plan; some titles are locked on the ad-supported plan.
- Compare the full cost and viewing conditions. Add any Prime Video rental or purchase charges to the recurring subscription cost. Also consider ads, simultaneous viewing, resolution and HDR support.
This title-by-title check is more useful than ranking services by total library size. The official information available here does not establish a current, comparable count of movies for both services in a particular country.

Prime Video: a search result may cost extra
Prime Video’s US movie page distinguishes titles available to watch with Prime from those available to rent or buy. Searching a movie does not mean its viewing is included in a Prime membership. Amazon’s US movie page shows these different access labels; listings can change and apply to the US storefront.
For the title you want, open its page and check the available options before pressing play. Amazon says selected movies can be rented or purchased through its website or a supported app. A purchase generally adds the title to My Stuff for streaming or download, although Amazon says it may later become unavailable for limited reasons such as licensing restrictions.

What Prime Video rentals mean
According to Amazon’s rental and purchase help, a rental stays in your video library for 30 days from rental. After playback starts, you have at least 48 hours to finish; some titles allow longer. Check the title’s terms, since the viewing window matters if you are deciding whether a one-time rental is better than another subscription.
Searching on Fire TV
Amazon says Fire TV search results can include Prime Video and other supported providers. On that device, titles included with Prime have a “Watch Now with Prime” option. This describes Fire TV behavior; do not assume every device offers the same combined search or labels. See Amazon’s Fire TV viewing help.

Netflix: country and plan both affect what you can watch
Netflix says its catalog varies between countries because of regional popularity, rights availability and licensing held by other companies. A title can be unavailable even if it is a Netflix Original, when another company holds the rights in that region. Netflix explains the regional limits in its country availability help.

Netflix also says some movies and shows are unavailable on its ad-supported plan. A lock icon appears on titles that cannot be watched on that plan. Check the title in your account and country rather than assuming that a search result means access is included.

Why a movie may not appear in Netflix search
A missing result does not always mean the movie is absent from every Netflix plan or region. Netflix lists several possible causes: the title has not been released in your country, regional rights are unavailable, a VPN affects the titles shown, your profile’s maturity setting hides it, or the title is not available in the profile language. Its search troubleshooting page explains these cases.
Compare the price and viewing limits that matter to you
Netflix’s official US plan page listed these monthly prices and features on October 4, 2026. They are US-dollar prices, not global rates; Netflix says to select a country to view local plans, and pricing or extra-member eligibility may vary by country or package. Verify the live price for your location before deciding.

Check quality, not just the plan name
A plan’s maximum resolution is not a guarantee that every movie will play at that quality. Netflix says most, but not all, titles are available in HD or 4K. The title’s details page shows the quality supported for the device in use; the plan, title, compatible devices across the playback setup and network conditions all matter. See Netflix’s video quality guidance.

When comparing services, treat 4K or HDR as a possible capability rather than a property of every movie. If quality is important, check the specific title and the devices you will use.
Quick Recap
Choose using your own watchlist
- Choose based on inclusion, not search results: mark each movie as included, locked by plan, rent-only or purchase-only.
- Compare what you will actually pay: include recurring plan charges and any separate Prime Video transactions for the films you want.
- Account for how you watch: compare ads, supported simultaneous devices and the quality available for the specific title and device setup.
- Recheck before paying: availability and prices can change, so confirm in your local account near the time you plan to watch.
