When are Prime Big Deal Days and Black Friday in 2026?
Amazon announced that Prime Big Deal Days 2026 will run October 6–7. In the United States, the event begins at 12:01 a.m. PDT on October 6 and ends at 11:59 p.m. PDT on October 7. Amazon describes it as a 48-hour event with offers across more than 35 categories. Its announcement also says the event includes hundreds of thousands of deals at 45% off or more; that is Amazon’s description of its offers, not independent confirmation that every deal is unusually good. What is worth checking during Prime Big Deal Days?
Amazon devices
Shopping coverage identifies Kindle, Echo, Fire TV, and Blink devices as categories to watch during Amazon’s event. That makes October a sensible time to check a specific device you already want, but a category-level expectation is not proof that a particular model is at a record price. Compare the same generation and model against its own price history before buying. If the price is not compelling, Tom’s Guide suggests checking Amazon devices again during Black Friday. Fall needs and purchases you need before November
Decor, Halloween preparation, hosting supplies, and early gifts can be worth buying in October when you will use them before later sales. The practical question is not just whether November might bring a lower price; it is whether waiting would leave you without something you need. Amazon itself positions the event around fall entertaining, home décor, and holiday gifting, while NBC Select’s 2025 guide notes that timing can make an October purchase useful.

Planned household essentials
Make a short list of household basics you were already going to replenish, then check whether the exact quantities and final prices make sense. This can help you avoid impulsive bulk buying: a larger package is not automatically a discount, and stocking up is only useful if you will use the items and have room to store them.

Tom’s Guide reports that its comparison of sneaker and apparel offers from last October with Black Friday and Cyber Monday found them virtually identical, and says October may offer a better choice of styles and sizes. That is the publication’s experience, not a promise about any brand or this year’s listings. If fit, color, or a particular style matters, selection may be a reason to buy earlier when the price is acceptable.

What may be worth comparing or waiting for?
TVs and laptops
NBC Select’s 2025 guide quotes a savings expert advising shoppers to wait for Black Friday on TVs, laptops, and high-end electronics, citing expected selection and competition among retailers. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 comparison likewise expects strong TV and laptop options later in the holiday season. These are forecasts, not guarantees of a lower price on the model you want. Buy during October if the exact listing is genuinely attractive and you need it; otherwise, waiting gives you more time to compare November offers across retailers.
Large appliances versus countertop appliances
NBC Select’s expert advice recommends waiting on big-ticket appliances. Tom’s Guide distinguishes these from many smaller appliance offers, which it expects may be similar in October and November, with possible exceptions for newly released products. Treat a refrigerator or washing machine differently from a countertop appliance, and compare the exact model, seller, delivery terms, and return conditions rather than applying one rule to every appliance.

Winter apparel
RetailMeNot retail insights expert Stephanie Carls, quoted by NBC Select, recommends waiting deeper into the season for coats and snow boots. If you need one now, that timing advice may not outweigh the immediate need; if the purchase is flexible, compare later seasonal offers before deciding.

Carls says furniture and mattresses tend to drop in price during off-peak periods such as early spring, so October may not be the best time to rush a purchase. For toys, NBC Select says Black Friday and Cyber Monday may offer a stronger buying window, but popular or new items can sell out. A specific toy with a strong October price and limited availability can therefore be a reasonable exception to waiting.

How to decide whether an October deal is actually good
- Identify the exact item. Record the model, generation, SKU, seller, and the price you would actually pay. Similar-looking listings can differ in year, configuration, or included accessories.
- Check recent price history. Amazon says product pages provide up to 365 days of price-history data; check the current interface and availability. - Compare the same model elsewhere. Check equivalent offers at other retailers, including shipping and any conditions. A lower headline price is not necessarily the lower total cost.
- Factor in timing and stock risk. If you need the item before November—or worry that a particular version will sell out—an acceptable October price may be more useful than a possible later discount. If you can wait, November may bring more options in categories such as TVs and laptops.
- Read the listing’s terms. Check delivery timing, return rules, seller, and model year before purchase. The sources for this comparison do not establish a universal price-protection policy, so do not assume a retailer will adjust the price if it falls later.
- Make the decision specific to the date checked. Deal listings and prices change. Do not assume an October discount remains active or that it is the lowest price of the year.
