They remain listed at that price on Apple’s U.S. store as of August 18, 2026. The defining upgrade is optical heart-rate monitoring during compatible workouts, alongside secure earhooks, active noise cancellation, wireless charging and up to 45 hours of listening with the case. The sensor is for exercise feedback, not medical diagnosis.
What Powerbeats Pro 2 are
Powerbeats Pro 2 are Beats earbuds, not a renamed AirPods model. Beats is an Apple-owned audio brand, and these earbuds use Apple technology while also supporting Android phones.
The original launch included Jet Black, Quick Sand, Hyper Purple and Electric Orange. A Nike Special Edition followed in March 2025 at the same $249.99 U.S. price. The launch announcement and availability dates were reported by MacRumors and the Beats announcement reproduced by Business Wire.
How the heart-rate sensor works
Each earbud uses optical sensors that shine light into the ear and estimate blood flow. Beats says the sensors pulse more than 100 times per second. The earbuds send that reading to a compatible fitness app or supported exercise equipment; they are not standalone heart-rate monitors that replace a phone, watch or training platform.
#1 Best Overall
- BUILT FOR ATHLETES WHO DON'T STOP: After 1,500 hours of testing across athletes of every ear shape and intensity level, Powerbeats Pro 2 delivers a secure-fit earhook that stays locked on — whether you're in a sprint, a heavy lift, or a full class.
- TUNE OUT THE GYM. TUNE INTO YOUR WORKOUT: Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) designed specifically for training environments — filters the noise floor so you can lock on, with Transparency mode to let in what matters when it matters.
- YOUR HEART RATE, RIGHT FROM YOUR EARS: Built-in sensors pulse 100+ times per second for real-time heart rate tracking without a chest strap or watch. Train smarter and keep your hands free. IPX4 rated for sweat and water resistance.
- 45 HOURS. ENOUGH FOR THE WHOLE WEEK: Powered by the Apple H2 chip, Powerbeats Pro 2 delivers up to 45 hours of total listening time with the charging case — the first wireless Qi-charging case from Beats. Running low? Fast Fuel means a 5-minute charge gives you 1.5 hours of playback.
- WORKS SEAMLESSLY WITH APPLE AND ANDROID: One-touch pairing, automatic device switching, and hands-free Siri on Apple. Full feature access including Heart Rate Monitoring, customizable controls, and battery widgets on Android via the Beats app for Android.
- Insert both earbuds and choose ear tips that keep a stable seal.
- Pair them with your phone, tablet, watch or compatible equipment.
- Open a supported fitness app and begin a workout or heart-rate session.
- Confirm that the app is using the Powerbeats Pro 2 heart-rate stream.
- Stop the session in the app when your workout ends.
On iPhone, supported workflows can start and stop automatically. Android users generally start and stop the heart-rate session manually. Heart-rate monitoring can be disabled.
Read Beats’ explanation of the feature and current app list at Beats’ heart-rate-monitoring page. Beats currently names Fitness, Nike Run Club, Peloton, Runna, Ladder, Slopes, 30 Day Fitness at Home and ASICS Runkeeper, but app behavior and availability can change with software updates.
Compatibility: Apple, Android and fitness equipment
| Platform or workflow | What is supported | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone | Fitness and compatible third-party apps; one-touch pairing, automatic switching, Audio Sharing, Siri and Find My | Heart-rate features depend on the app, iOS version and paired hardware. |
| iPad | Fitness app support with iPadOS 26 in the specified setup | Beats says the Fitness workflow requires pairing with an iPhone or Apple Watch. |
| Apple TV | Fitness app support with tvOS 26 in the specified setup | An iPhone or Apple Watch pairing is required for the listed workflow. |
| Apple Watch | Can be part of the supported Apple Fitness setup | An iPhone workout may select the watch as its heart-rate source instead of the earbuds. |
| Android | Heart-rate monitoring, controls, battery widgets and Locate My Beats through the Beats app | Manual session control is required, and the phone must run a compatible current operating system. |
| Gym equipment | Supported equipment can receive the Bluetooth heart-rate stream | Compatibility is selective; it is not guaranteed for every treadmill, bike, rower or console. |
Apple users should check the current requirements on the official Beats product page. Android buyers need the Beats app for important heart-rate and control features; the experience is less automatic than on iPhone.

Hardware built for training
- Fit: Wraparound earhooks help keep the earbuds in place during running, lifting, cycling and other high-impact movement.
- Audio: Apple’s H2 chip, active noise cancellation, Transparency mode, Adaptive EQ and Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.
- Controls: Physical on-ear buttons and tactile volume rockers, rather than touch-only controls.
- Calls: Three microphones and a voice accelerometer in each earbud, with Voice Isolation.
- Durability: IPX4 sweat and water resistance. This covers sweat and splashes, not swimming or submersion.
- Charging: A wireless case supports Qi-compatible charging, MagSafe chargers and USB-C.
The case is 33% smaller than the original Powerbeats Pro. Earhooks improve retention but add bulk: they may press against glasses, helmets, masks or larger earrings, and they are less discreet than compact stem-style earbuds.

Battery and charging claims
| Claim | What it means |
|---|---|
| Up to 10 hours | Maximum continuous listening from the earbuds. |
| Up to 45 hours | Total listening with the charging case. |
| Up to 1.5 hours from Fast Fuel | Five minutes of charging can provide this playback under Apple’s stated test conditions. |
These are manufacturer estimates, not a guaranteed workout runtime. ANC or Transparency mode, volume, codec, temperature and use of the heart-rate sensors can reduce the result. Charging and specification details are listed by Beats.
Heart-rate limitations and safety
Fit and contact matter. A loose earbud, unsuitable ear tip, sweat, rapid movement, ear shape, debris or earwax can affect readings. A secure earhook does not guarantee identical results for every person or exercise.

Powerbeats Pro 2 and their heart-rate sensor are not medical devices. Do not use the feature to diagnose a condition, make treatment decisions or replace prescribed monitoring. The official safety documentation provides that qualification. Anyone with a medical condition should follow a clinician’s monitoring plan.
Who should buy Powerbeats Pro 2?
- Runners, gym users and cyclists who routinely lose conventional earbuds.
- People who want workout heart-rate feedback without wearing a watch for every session.
- iPhone or Android users whose preferred fitness app is on Beats’ compatibility list.
- Listeners who prefer physical controls, ANC, Transparency mode and long battery life.
Who should skip them?
- Swimmers or anyone needing more than IPX4 splash and sweat resistance.
- Anyone requiring clinical or medical-grade heart-rate monitoring.
- Users who dislike earhooks or need a very small earbud for glasses, helmets or discreet wear.
- People who expect every fitness app or gym console to accept the heart-rate feed.
- Owners of a dependable Apple Watch or chest strap who have no use for a second workout sensor.
How they compare with common alternatives
AirPods Pro
AirPods Pro are the more compact, general-purpose choice for Apple users. Powerbeats Pro 2 are the better fit when retention during intense movement matters more than a discreet design.
Apple Watch
An Apple Watch offers a broader workout, activity, notification and health ecosystem, but requires wearing a watch. Powerbeats Pro 2 put the sensor in earbuds you may already use for training.
Rank #4
- FOR POWERBEATS PRO 2 EXCLUSIVE: Precision-engineered only for Powerbeats Pro 2 earbuds. Not compatible with Powerbeats Pro (1st Gen) – guaranteed perfect nozzle lock & seal.
- 5X LONGEVITY: Industry-first 5 PAIRS (XS/S/M/L/XL) – replace lost/worn tips or customize fit for workout/music/calls. Double the standard kit!
- BASS-BOOSTED SEAL: 25% thicker silicone walls vs. stock tips – blocks gym noise while amplifying for the Powerbeats Pro 2’s low-end thump.
- ZERO-SLIP GRIP: Laser-etched texture + sweatproof coating keeps earbuds anchored during sprints/boxing/yoga. No readjustments needed!
- HYPOALLERGENIC COMFORT: Medical-grade silicone prevents itch/redness. Oval-shaped core distributes pressure evenly – wear all day pain-free.
Chest straps
A chest-strap monitor is a separate, specialized training device. It may suit athletes who prioritize a dedicated training workflow, while Powerbeats Pro 2 are more convenient for casual or mixed workouts. No independent evidence here establishes that the earbuds are more accurate than a chest strap or Apple Watch.
Common problems and fixes
- No heart-rate data: Reseat both earbuds, check the ear tips, update the Beats app and earbud firmware, and verify that the workout app supports the feature.
- The wrong sensor is active: If an Apple Watch is connected, inspect the workout app’s active heart-rate source.
- Android session does not update: Start the heart-rate session manually in the supported app.
- Noise control seems weak: Clean the earbuds according to the Powerbeats Pro 2 support guidance; debris can affect ANC and Transparency performance.
- Battery falls short: ANC, Transparency mode, high volume, sensor use and extreme temperatures can all reduce runtime.
Verdict for 2026
At the official U.S. price of $249.99, Powerbeats Pro 2 make the most sense for athletes who value a secure earhook fit and want occasional workout heart-rate data in the same device as their headphones. Their strongest case is convenience, not medical monitoring or proven superiority over a watch or chest strap.
Choose them if retention, physical controls, ANC and cross-platform fitness support solve a real problem. Choose an AirPods Pro-style earbud for compact everyday wear, an Apple Watch for a wider health ecosystem, or a chest strap for a dedicated training setup.
