Portable Table Saws for Plywood: Which Jobsite Model Fits Your Cuts?

For ripping plywood, the best portable table saw depends on the sheet width you need to clear, how much support you can provide, and how confidently you can adjust the fence. The DEWALT DWE7485 is the compact choice with a stated 24.5-inch rip capacity. Bosch’s 4100XC-10 extends that capacity to 30 inches and includes a wheeled Gravity-Rise stand, while the Bosch GTS15-10 reaches 32-1/8 inches with the same stand concept. Those specifications identify useful options, but they do not prove which saw cuts fastest, leaves the best edge, or is easiest to operate with a full sheet. The practical choice comes from matching capacity, fence control, stand support, guarding and your plywood workflow.

What “rip capacity” means when you cut plywood

Rip capacity is the maximum distance from the blade to the rip fence on the side intended for a cut. It is not the width of a sheet that can pass the blade in one crosscut, and it does not mean a compact saw can accept a 48-inch-wide panel between its fence and blade.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

A 4-by-8-foot panel is 48 inches wide and 96 inches long. To make a lengthwise rip, orient the panel so its long edge runs in the feed direction, then set the fence for the strip width you need. A saw with 24.5 inches of stated capacity can therefore be suitable for many rips along a 4-by-8 sheet, as DEWALT describes for the DWE7485. The panel still needs support before it reaches the blade, beside the fence, and after it leaves the table.

If your cut requires the fence to sit more than the saw’s stated capacity from the blade, the operation needs a different layout, a first cut with another tool, or a saw with greater capacity. Do not interpret any of the models below as being able to rip a 48-inch width in a single fence-guided pass.

Three portable saws compared by published specifications

Model Blade and motor specification Stated rip capacity Fence and stand details Guarding and support details
DEWALT DWE7485 8-1/4-inch blade; 15-amp motor 24.5 inches; DEWALT identifies it for ripping 4-by-8 plywood or OSB sheets Rack-and-pinion telescoping fence rails; compact design Use the supplied guard, riving knife and push aids as specified in the manual; stand or stable mounting is the operator’s responsibility unless a compatible support is provided
Bosch 4100XC-10 10-inch blade; 15-amp saw; 3,650 rpm (manufacturer specification) 30 inches for 4-foot-wide sheet goods SquareLock fence; Gravity-Rise wheeled stand Smart Guard system; table listed at 30 by 22-1/2 inches; use the model’s supplied support and guarding configuration
Bosch GTS15-10 10-inch blade; 15-amp saw; 3,800 rpm (manufacturer specification) 32-1/8 inches Rack-and-pinion fence; Gravity-Rise wheeled stand Smart Guard system; the included stand and guard must be set up according to the model manual

These are manufacturer specifications from product pages current on October 13, 2026, not results from a common laboratory test. The published rpm figures are no substitute for a plywood cut-speed test, and the capacity figures do not measure edge quality or solo sheet handling.

Which model fits your plywood work?

DEWALT DWE7485: compact capacity for a mobile setup

The DWE7485 makes sense when storage space, vehicle transport and a smaller footprint matter more than maximum fence travel. Its rack-and-pinion telescoping rails are intended to make fence changes repeatable without repeatedly nudging a loose rail. DEWALT explicitly presents the stated capacity as suitable for ripping 4-by-8 plywood or OSB, so it covers common cabinet, shelving and construction-sheet rips when the panel is oriented lengthwise.

The trade-off is less fence-to-blade distance than either Bosch example and an 8-1/4-inch blade rather than a 10-inch blade. That does not by itself establish inferior plywood results; it means you should check the thickness and cut geometry of your stock against the saw’s manual. Plan an outfeed table, roller support or another stable arrangement before attempting a large panel. The product specification alone does not establish that one person can safely control a full sheet on the compact table.

Bosch 4100XC-10: more fence travel with a wheeled stand

The 4100XC-10 adds six inches of stated rip capacity over the compact DEWALT example and pairs the saw with a Gravity-Rise wheeled stand. That combination is relevant if you regularly move between a garage, driveway and jobsite but still need a broad fence setting for sheet goods. Its 30-by-22-1/2-inch table gives a defined work surface, while the SquareLock fence is the adjustment system Bosch lists for this model.

The stand addresses transport and setup, not every support problem. A wheeled base can make the saw easier to position, but a 4-by-8 panel extends far beyond the table. Before powering on, arrange stable infeed and outfeed support that will not tip, catch the panel or push it sideways into the fence. The manufacturer information does not quantify how easy the full sheet is to handle alone.

SKIL 15 Amp 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw with Folding Stand-TS6307-00
  • RACK AND PINION FENCE RAILS - Ensures fence stays parallel to blade for fast smooth, and accurate cuts
  • INTEGRATED FOLDING STAND - Legs quickly fold in to provide portability and convenient storage
  • PARALLEL BLADE ALIGNMENT - Available micro-adjustment of blade so that it is parallel to rip fence and miter slot
  • 4x4 CUTTING CAPACITY - Cuts material up to 4x4 at 90 degrees
  • 2-47° BEVEL CAPACITY - Cuts between 2 positive stops at 0 and 45 degrees with quick release lever

Bosch GTS15-10: the largest stated rip capacity in this group

The GTS15-10 provides the greatest published fence-to-blade distance among these three examples. Choose it when your cut list repeatedly calls for wider rips and you want a wheeled Gravity-Rise stand rather than a separate transport solution. Bosch lists a rack-and-pinion fence, which is useful when you make several settings during a sheet breakdown and want a controlled adjustment method.

Its 10-inch blade and published 15-amp, 3,800-rpm specification describe the machine’s configuration; they do not establish a faster feed rate or cleaner plywood edge than the other saws. Use the Smart Guard system and the exact GTS15-10 manual, and verify that your support arrangement remains stable at the larger fence settings.

How to choose beyond the capacity number

Fence adjustment and repeatability

A fence that moves smoothly and locks without shifting is central to consistent strips. Rack-and-pinion systems on the DWE7485 and GTS15-10 keep the adjustment mechanism engaged as you change width. The 4100XC-10 uses Bosch’s SquareLock fence. Whichever system you select, check the lock, confirm the scale against an actual measurement, and verify parallel alignment before the cut.

Stand, footprint and transport

An included wheeled stand changes how you get the saw to the work area, but it does not eliminate the need for a level, stable setup. The Bosch models list Gravity-Rise stands; the DWE7485 is described as compact rather than as including one of those stands. Compare folded storage space, wheel clearance, setup time and the route from your vehicle to the cutting area. A saw that is easy to roll but positioned on an unstable surface is not a safer plywood solution.

Table and sheet support

Look at the table area as the first part of a longer support path. Plywood can bow, sag or twist as it approaches the blade. Support must hold the panel at the same height as the table without forcing it toward or away from the fence. The cited specifications do not approve a particular improvised support design, so follow the model manual and use purpose-built, stable equipment where possible.

  • BOSCH TOOLS SAW: 15-Amp portable table saw with 3,800 rpm for rip-cutting and cross-cutting of fine and hard wood materials
  • CONVENIENCE BRAKE: The brake on this tablesaw helps blade stop in approximately three seconds, increasing productivity
  • SOFT-START CIRCUITRY: This 10 inch table saw manages intensity of motor start-up and minimizes the possibility of tripping a circuit breaker
  • SMART GUARD SYSTEM: This portable saw features a riving knife and anti-kickback pawls to provide protection, while the guard assembly provides a barrier to help prevent blade contact while allowing an unobstructed view of the cut

Guard, riving knife, anti-kickback parts and push aids

Keep the supplied guard assembly and riving knife installed for ripping unless the manual explicitly describes a different operation. Check that anti-kickback parts move and sit correctly, and keep a push stick available before the panel reaches the danger zone. A portable saw’s inclusion of a guard or stand is not a substitute for installing and adjusting it correctly.

Blade and kerf compatibility

Blade choice affects plywood tear-out and the amount of finishing work, but “plywood blade” is not a universal fit label. Diameter, kerf, plate thickness and riving-knife clearance must match the saw. DEWALT’s support notice specifically identifies DWA181424 and DWA181424B10, both 8-1/4-inch, 24-tooth blades, and DWA181440, an 8-1/4-inch, 40-tooth blade, for the DWE7485 Type 3. The notice gives plate and kerf limits, warns that a blade change may require checking the rip-scale adjustment, and says the replacement blade must not exceed the supplied riving knife’s thickness.

Those DEWALT compatibility statements must not be generalized to either Bosch saw. The DWE7485 manual describes its supplied blade as a combination blade and lists thin-plywood blades among specialized types; it does not declare one blade best for every plywood species, thickness or portable saw. For another model, use that model’s manual and blade data sheet.

Prepare the saw before a plywood rip

  1. Inspect the work area. Clear the feed path, provide stable infeed and outfeed support, and position the saw so the panel will not strike a wall, vehicle or another person.
  2. Install the correct blade and guard. Confirm diameter, kerf, plate and riving-knife clearance for the exact model. Fit the manufacturer’s guard, riving knife and anti-kickback components.
  3. Set the fence. Measure from the blade to the fence at the intended strip width. Lock the fence and confirm that it is parallel to the blade; the DEWALT manual specifically calls for this check before ripping.
  4. Check the blade height. Set height according to the model manual and material requirements. Do not use a height setting that leaves unnecessary exposed blade.
  5. Prepare push aids. Keep a push stick ready. Bosch’s safety instructions call for a push stick when the fence-to-blade distance is under 150 mm and a push block under 50 mm; those distances are instructions in that manual, not universal regulatory limits for every saw.
  6. Plan the feed. Stand to the side of the blade’s potential kickback path, keep both hands out of the blade area, and decide where the offcut will go before starting the motor.

Safe feeding and kickback control

Kickback is a sudden workpiece reaction associated with a pinched or jammed blade or a misaligned cut. Bosch’s safety guidance says ripping force should be applied between the fence and blade, not by pulling the workpiece away from the fence or pushing it into the blade from an unsafe angle. Feed at a controlled rate that keeps the sheet against the fence without forcing it.

The DEWALT manual says to verify that the rip fence is locked and parallel, inspect the guard assembly and riving knife, have a push stick ready, and secure the saw to a stable surface. It also warns against using the rip fence and miter gauge together. Use the manual for your exact model because guard shapes, accessory storage and adjustment procedures differ.

Never assume that a wheeled stand alone supports a full sheet. The cited product pages describe capacities and, for the Bosch models, stand systems; they do not assess a particular infeed/outfeed arrangement or prove that one operator can safely manage a full 4-by-8 panel. If the panel is awkward, enlist another person or break it down with a supported preliminary cut using an appropriate tool.

A practical plywood workflow

Break down the cut list first

Mark the sheet with the finished dimensions, saw kerf allowance and the order of cuts. Put the longest, widest rips first while the panel still has maximum support. Group repeated widths so you can set and verify the fence once, then make the required passes without unnecessary adjustments.

Orient the sheet for the intended rip

For a lengthwise rip, feed the long edge in the direction of travel and use the fence to establish the strip width. If the required dimension exceeds the available fence capacity, do not lean the panel against the fence at an angle or attempt to force a crosscut through the full 48-inch width. Change the breakdown plan or use a different method that leaves a safe, supported reference edge.

Support both the keeper and the offcut

The portion you keep must stay flat against the table and fence. The offcut must not fall, twist or pull the panel after it passes the blade. Support should be level with the saw table and positioned so it cannot roll or slide as the sheet’s weight shifts. Check the arrangement with the saw switched off before beginning the cut.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Make a controlled pass

Start the saw only after the panel, fence and support are ready. Feed steadily, keeping the sheet against the fence and your hands behind the blade’s line. Use the push stick or block when the manual’s clearance rule requires it, and do not reach over the blade to retrieve an offcut. After the cut, wait for the blade to stop before clearing material.

DEWALT Table Saw 10 Inch with Foldable Rolling Table Saw Stand, 15 Amp, 4800 RPM, 32-1/2-Inch Rip Capacity (DWE7491RS)
  • Rack & Pinion Telescoping Fence System Make fence adjustments fast, smooth and accurate
  • Patented material support, can be used for narrow rip cuts.
  • 32-1/2" rip capacity easily cuts a variety of larger shelving and trim materials
  • Onboard storage system provides easy access to the Blade Guard Assembly, fence, riving knife, miter gauge, wrenches, push stick, and cord wrap when not in use.
  • Rolling stand designed for easy set up and breakdown with excellent stability of the portable table saw. Telescoping fence rails retract to create a small, portable package. Flip over ripping fence allows for narrow rip cuts

Verify dimensions and edge quality

Measure the first strip at several points. If the width varies, stop and correct fence alignment, support or feeding technique before continuing. Tear-out can result from blade selection, plywood construction, feed behavior or insufficient support; changing blades without checking compatibility or alignment can introduce a different problem.

Common mistakes and fixes

  • Confusing capacity with sheet width: Treat the published number as fence-to-blade travel for a rip, not as a 48-inch crosscut allowance. Reorient the sheet or revise the breakdown plan.
  • Relying on the stand as sheet support: A transport stand does not automatically support a long panel. Add stable, level infeed and outfeed support consistent with the manual.
  • Skipping the parallel-fence check: A fence that points toward the blade can pinch the workpiece. Lock it, measure at the front and rear of the blade, and correct alignment before feeding.
  • Removing the guard for convenience: Keep the guard and riving knife installed for normal ripping and inspect their fit before each session.
  • Using a blade by diameter alone: Confirm kerf, plate thickness and riving-knife clearance for the exact saw. The DWE7485 blade notice applies to that DEWALT configuration, not automatically to other machines.
  • Using the fence and miter gauge together: The DEWALT manual warns against this combination. Follow the exact model manual for any operation that appears to need both references.
  • Calling a specification a speed test: Motor amperage, rpm and rip capacity are published specifications. They do not establish fastest cutting, easiest handling, accuracy or edge finish.

How the three choices map to real needs

Your priority Specification-led fit What you still need to arrange
Small storage footprint and a stated capacity for common 4-by-8 sheet rips DEWALT DWE7485 Stable mounting and full-length sheet support; verify the 8-1/4-inch blade requirements
More fence travel plus an included wheeled transport system Bosch 4100XC-10 Level infeed and outfeed support beyond the 30-by-22-1/2-inch table; setup according to the 4100XC-10 manual
Maximum stated fence-to-blade distance among these examples Bosch GTS15-10 Support for the wider setup, correct rack-and-pinion adjustment and the GTS15-10 guarding procedure

This mapping is based on published configuration and stated capacity, not a comparative field test. Current prices, stock, durability and measured plywood finish are not established by the manufacturer specifications cited here and can change over time.

Bottom line for buying a portable plywood saw

Start with the widest rip in your cut list, then ask whether your workspace can support the sheet safely. Pick the DWE7485 when compact transport and a 24.5-inch stated capacity cover your work. Move to the 4100XC-10 when 30 inches of capacity and a wheeled stand better match your setup. Choose the GTS15-10 when the additional published fence travel is valuable and you can support the larger cutting envelope.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Whichever model you select, treat the fence, riving knife, guard, push aids and support path as one system. A larger capacity number cannot compensate for a misaligned fence or an unsupported panel, and no published specification alone proves that a saw is fastest or easiest with plywood.
