PlayStation highlights five popular shooters with PS5-specific features: DOOM Eternal, Rainbow Six Siege, Destiny 2, Fortnite and The Division 2. Their enhancements include higher frame-rate options, 4K modes, faster loading and DualSense features, but “free” does not apply universally: upgrade costs and availability vary by game and region.
Which PS4 shooters have PS5 enhancements?
PlayStation’s feature page describes PS5-specific features for these five shooters. The listed frame rates and resolutions are feature targets, not independent performance measurements; some visual targets also depend on a compatible display.

These details come from PlayStation Canada’s PS5 enhanced-games feature. Its descriptions are not a complete list of every PS4 shooter with a PS5 version or upgrade.

What “PS5 upgrade” means—and what it doesn’t
There are two different ways a PS4 game may run on a PS5. Most PS4 games run through backward compatibility; Sony says the overwhelming majority of its more than 4,000 PS4 games are playable on PS5. Some backward-compatible games may benefit from Game Boost, which can improve or smooth frame rates. Sony also warns that some titles may show errors or unexpected behavior. Neither outcome, by itself, means you have downloaded a dedicated PS5 version with title-specific features.

A dedicated PS5 version may add features such as the modes listed above. Whether you can get that version at no cost depends on the particular game and offer. Sony’s PS5 game-upgrade guidance says an upgrade can be free, paid, or time-limited. A compatible PS4 version may remain playable without upgrading.

Check the offer before you upgrade
- Open the game’s hub or its listing in the PlayStation Store for your region and inspect the PS5 version and its current offer. Do not assume a free offer is available for every game, edition or territory.
- Confirm whether the offer applies to your copy—digital or disc—and whether it is still within any stated time limit.
- If you own a PS4 disc, use a PS5 console with a disc drive. PS4 discs cannot be used on the PS5 Digital Edition. Sony’s backward-compatibility guidance also explains installing digital PS4 games from your library.
- Check the game’s instructions for transferring saves. Whether a save transfers from the PS4 version to the PS5 version is decided by the game’s developer and varies by title.
What you need to use the enhancements
- A PS5: The dedicated PS5 versions and their listed PS5-specific features require a PS5 console.
- A disc-drive PS5 for PS4 discs: Digital PS4 purchases can be installed from your library, but a PS4 disc cannot be used on a PS5 Digital Edition.
- A suitable display for certain targets: PlayStation notes display requirements for the cited 4K and 120 FPS features. The target alone does not guarantee your screen can show that resolution or refresh rate.
- PlayStation Plus for Rainbow Six Siege online multiplayer: PlayStation lists this subscription requirement for online play.
- A DualSense controller to experience the listed controller effects: Haptics and adaptive triggers are features, not prerequisites for every PS5 upgrade.
