It gives no calendar date for the incident, cause of the fire or later update on the man’s condition.

Reduce fire risks around tents
- Leave at least six metres between tents and caravans, and keep them away from parked cars.
- Keep cooking appliances away from tent walls. Never cook inside a small tent or close to flammable materials.
- Know how to get out in an emergency, including how to cut your way out if necessary.
- The Thames Valley Local Resilience Forum’s March 2025 emergency guide says: “Never use candles in or near a tent – torches are safer.”
If a fire breaks out
- Leave the area and call 999. Give the exact location if you can.
- Do not return until firefighters say it is safe.
Other Milton Keynes fire reports are separate incidents
Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service has an official record of a different fire involving a marquee at Frobisher Gate on 5 March 2026. Two engines attended, and the service said the marquee was around 20% damaged. That is a separate incident and does not establish anything about the Elder Gate fire.
Wider fire statistics also do not show how many tent fires occurred. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government reported 641,227 incidents attended by fire and rescue services in England in the year ending March 2026, including 170,597 fires. Total incidents were up 5.8% and fires up 19% from the preceding year. These are England-wide figures for all relevant incidents and fires, not tent-fire counts.
