Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are announced as Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives coming worldwide in 2027. The official description confirms an open world of windswept islands and a vast ocean, plus three first partner Pokémon. It does not yet explain the detailed battle, capture, or traversal systems, and it gives no exact launch date.
What is confirmed about Pokémon Winds and Waves?
The Pokémon Company describes both games as open-world adventures across windswept islands and a large ocean, with distinct local Pokémon ecosystems. Players will team up with Pokémon to overcome challenges, including obstacles involving forces of nature. That establishes the broad premise, not how exploration, battles, or quests work in practice. The official game page also cautions that the games are in development, not all footage represents actual gameplay, and the final experience may vary.

How are Winds and Waves different?
The official material currently shows one difference: the player-character outfit. In Winds, the character wears a light-colored, wide-brimmed hat; in Waves, the character wears a blue cap. The player is the main character in each version. The announcement does not confirm separate stories, version-exclusive Pokémon, or other gameplay differences.
What gameplay details remain unconfirmed?
The official sources reviewed do not establish:
- An exact release date, price, preorder availability, or physical and digital editions.
- Detailed battle, catching, traversal, or quest mechanics.
- Multiplayer features or online requirements.
- The plot, the setting’s real-world inspiration, or a complete roster of returning Pokémon.

The official announcement says more information about Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu will come later; it does not identify their story or battle functions. Since the games remain in development, footage should not be treated as proof of a final feature or performance level.
