The Pokémon Company’s announcement calls both titles all-new entries and says they will launch together worldwide in 2027. Nintendo’s regional product pages and investor title list repeat the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusivity and 2027 window. Nintendo’s investor material also warns that announced titles and release timing can change, so the year should be treated as the current plan rather than a guarantee.

The player is the protagonist. The clearest confirmed difference between Winds and Waves is cosmetic: the protagonist’s outfit changes between versions. The official pages do not establish different personalities, genders, stories, starting locations, or abilities for the two versions.
No character names, rival details, professor, villain group, or story premise beyond the island-and-ocean setting has been confirmed in the official material reviewed. Avoid treating visual details in a trailer as proof of a finalized plot or character roster.
