When does Mystery Gift unlock, and what do you need?
Nintendo says the Poké Portal and Mystery Gift become available after you reach the first Pokémon Center in Los Platos. The game-specific guide lists a Nintendo Switch-family console and an internet connection among the requirements for receiving gifts. How do you redeem a Mystery Gift in Pokémon Scarlet or Violet?
During gameplay, press X and select Poké Portal, then Mystery Gift. The menu offers two paths:

Claim an internet gift
- Launch Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet and press X during gameplay.
- Select Poké Portal > Mystery Gift > Internet.
- Wait while the game connects and searches for currently available gifts.
- Highlight the gift you want and press A to confirm.
- Check the appropriate destination for the reward, then save your game.
Redeem a code or password
- Press X, then select Poké Portal > Mystery Gift.
- Choose Code/Password. Follow the wording shown in your version of the game if it differs slightly.
- Enter the code supplied by the promotion and confirm.
- Check the appropriate destination for the reward, then save your game.
Nintendo describes Mystery Gift as a way to redeem download codes or connect wirelessly to Nintendo-sponsored events for special Pokémon or items. The game menu provides the redemption route; the promotion’s terms determine whether a particular code or distribution is still valid.
Where do claimed gifts go?
- Pokémon: Added to your party if there is room; otherwise, sent to Pokémon Boxes.
- Non-fashion items: Added to the Bag.
- Fashion items: Accessed from the Outfit menu. Press Left to open it.
To review gifts you have already received, choose Check Mystery Gifts from the Mystery Gift menu. Nintendo describes this as a receipt history, not a way to reclaim an unclaimed gift or reactivate an expired code. Nintendo’s Mystery Gift overview provides general context for the feature.
Can you still use an expired Mystery Gift code?
Do not assume an expired code will work. The official game instructions explain how to enter a code but do not describe a general method to extend, reactivate, or redeem expired codes through another route. Check the official announcement or terms for that specific promotion and its deadline. An old announcement still being available online is not evidence that its distribution remains open.

Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.
- The Mystery Gift option can be found within the Poké Portal menu option in the X menu after you unlock the feature in the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. (This occurs after about 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary.) An internet connection and a Nintendo Account is required to redeem the item in game. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Each item can only be redeemed once.
Historical Scarlet and Violet promotions illustrate why the code and deadline need to be checked individually: Pokémon’s past distribution announcements include code-based gifts, but those notices do not establish current availability. Do not treat a code found on an unofficial list as active without confirmation from an official source.
Pokémon HOME has separate Gift Box rules, including a period after which gifts there become unavailable. Those HOME-specific rules should not be applied to Scarlet and Violet’s in-game Mystery Gift process. Pokémon HOME’s Mystery Gift instructions concern HOME, not Scarlet and Violet.

How to check whether a gift is active
- Look for the official Pokémon or Nintendo announcement for the exact gift or code.
- Check its stated end date and any region, game, or redemption conditions.
- For an internet gift, use X > Poké Portal > Mystery Gift > Internet to search in-game for gifts currently available.
- For a code gift, use Code/Password only if the promotion’s terms indicate the code is still valid.
No current distribution is confirmed here; gift availability changes over time and must be checked against current official information.
