If you want a Pokémon GO alternative, start with the part of the game you most want to keep: walking and collecting, location-based combat, strategic map play, or simply getting outdoors. Pikmin Bloom is the closest fit for a gentler walking-and-collecting loop; Monster Hunter Now is a better match for location-based combat. Neither is a complete substitute for Pokémon GO’s mix of Pokémon, battles, real-world stops, and social play.
What makes Pokémon GO different?
The Pokémon Company describes Pokémon GO as a free-to-download iPhone and Android game built around exploring real places, finding and catching Pokémon, visiting real-world points of interest for items, battling other trainers, interacting with friends, and earning walking-related progress. Some items and features are available through optional in-app purchases, according to its official game page. That combination is why no option below should be treated as a one-for-one replacement.

For a useful comparison, decide whether you care most about collecting, movement, combat, territory, or outdoor discovery. The alternatives below are a shortlist by gameplay fit, not a verified ranking.
Which Pokémon GO alternative fits your preferred gameplay?
| Game | Best fit | How it differs from Pokémon GO |
|---|---|---|
| Pikmin Bloom | Walking and light collecting | More walking-centered and gentler in feel; do not assume it offers Pokémon GO’s battle depth or map interactions. |
| Monster Hunter Now | Location-based combat | More combat-centered; child accounts are not supported, according to Scopely’s parent guide. |
| Ingress | Strategic map and territory play | Centers on factions and real-world portals rather than collecting creatures. |
| Jurassic World Alive | Dinosaur collecting | Offers a dinosaur-collection angle; current detailed features and availability are not established here. |
| Orna | GPS role-playing | Ties RPG play to location; detailed current mechanics are not established here. |
| Geocaching | Outdoor treasure hunts | Focuses on navigating to and finding real-world places, not creature battles. |
| Zombies, Run! | Fitness and story-led running | Prioritizes movement and narrative over catching creatures. |
Pikmin Bloom: for walking without a battle-first focus
Choose Pikmin Bloom if you want a light collecting loop that gives your walks a playful purpose. Scopely Explore currently lists it in its real-world game portfolio. Its closer connection to walking makes it a sensible alternative for building an outdoor habit, but the available information does not establish that it matches Pokémon GO’s combat or map features.
#1 Best Overall
- The packaging is Japanese, but item works the same as the US version.
- Catch Pokémon and track your rest rhythm with the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory!
- Keep track of your sleep with the press of a button
- Press and hold the central button on the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory and place it by your pillow to track your rest rhythm on the Pokémon Sleep app
- There’s a Pikachu within your Pokémon GO Plus + that can sing you lullabies and act as your morning alarm; Pikachu grows friendlier the more you sleep, unlocking even more sounds!
Monster Hunter Now: for combat tied to real places
Choose Monster Hunter Now if combat is the main draw and you want that activity connected to location. It is also listed in Scopely Explore’s portfolio. Families should take note: Scopely’s parent guide says child accounts are not supported, and describes the game as generally for users over 13 in most regions. Age requirements vary by jurisdiction, so check local rules and the current rating.
Ingress: for territory and strategy
Ingress is a better match if you want a strategic team game built around real-world map locations. A 2026 scholarly-paper search listing describes players joining factions and interacting with portals. Think of it as a map-and-territory alternative, not a creature collector.

Other outdoor options: dinosaurs, RPGs, caches, or running stories
- Jurassic World Alive: Consider it if dinosaur collection is the appeal. Verify the current App Store or Google Play listing before downloading; detailed current features, regional availability, and update status are not established here.
- Orna: Consider it if you want an RPG connected to GPS and location. The available information does not support a detailed current mechanics comparison.
- Geocaching: Choose this for outdoor navigation and treasure-hunt-style discovery rather than battles with creatures.
- Zombies, Run!: Choose this if your priority is running or moving outdoors with a story, not collecting creatures.
How much do these games require you to go outside?
Pokémon GO and the location-based alternatives tie play to real places in different ways: Pokémon GO combines catching, points of interest, battles, friends, and walking progress; Pikmin Bloom emphasizes walking; Monster Hunter Now emphasizes combat; and Ingress is oriented around map strategy and portals. Geocaching is closer to navigating to locations, while Zombies, Run! is an outdoor activity option built around running and narrative. The shortlist does not establish a consistent movement requirement for every game, so check each current store listing for the activity it expects.
Which alternatives work for families?
Scopely’s parent guide says Pokémon GO and Pikmin Bloom permit child accounts with parental consent, while Monster Hunter Now does not support child accounts. It also describes Monster Hunter Now as generally for users over 13 in most regions. Those are not universal age rules: local requirements and app-store ratings can differ. Check the current guidance for your location before setting up an account.

Scopely announced that the team behind Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now joined Scopely, and introduced Scopely Explore as a mission-driven team within Scopely. Its announcement says, “Scopely Explore is not a separate company or subsidiary.” Use Scopely Explore for current portfolio references rather than treating it as a separate company. Scopely valued the games-business deal at $3.5 billion in its 2025 announcement; that was the stated deal value at announcement, not a current valuation of Scopely or any individual game.

Scopely Explore describes its products with the tagline “Made for the real world.” That is the company’s own wording, and it captures the common thread in its location-based games, not a claim that all of them play alike.
