Poco X5 Pro review: Is it still worth buying in 2026?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Poco X5 Pro remains a capable 2023 midrange phone, with an excellent 120Hz AMOLED display, strong Snapdragon 778G performance, long battery life when healthy, 67W charging, a headphone jack and an IR blaster. In 2026, however, it is a sensible purchase only when substantially cheaper than newer phones and after you verify the exact regional variant, carrier compatibility, battery condition and remaining software support.

Quick verdict

Category Verdict
Performance Still capable for everyday use and many games
Display Excellent for its age
Battery Strong when the battery is healthy
Charging Very good, up to 67W wired
Main camera Good in favorable lighting
Ultrawide and macro Merely adequate
Software longevity The main concern
2026 purchase Worth considering only at a low price

The X5 Pro is not a current-generation bargain phone. It is best viewed as a discounted used, refurbished, clearance or import option. Its hardware still works well, but an old battery, uncertain updates and regional network differences can erase the apparent saving.

What is the Poco X5 Pro?

Poco launched the Poco X5 Pro 5G internationally on February 6, 2023, as a performance-focused midrange model. The official product page lists the phone at Poco. Retailers often omit “5G” from the name.

Compared with the standard Poco X5, the Pro uses a Snapdragon 778G instead of a Snapdragon 695 and has a 108MP main camera instead of 48MP. Memory, NFC, cellular bands, firmware and warranty can vary by market, so “global version” is not a sufficient description when buying an import.

The principal global configurations are 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB, although Xiaomi’s FAQ contains an inconsistent reference to 4GB. Regional listings should be checked against the label and the phone’s settings. “Up to 11GB” or “13GB” claims include storage-based RAM expansion; they do not represent that amount of physical RAM.

Design, ports and durability

The phone has a plastic rear and frame, USB-C, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an IR blaster and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Those practical features remain unusual advantages over some newer models. NFC and Google Pay support depend on the market and firmware.

IP53 provides limited dust and splash resistance, not waterproofing. It should not be submerged or charged while wet; liquid damage may not be covered. USB-C is USB 2.0, there is no wireless charging and storage cannot be expanded with a microSD card. Used listings may not include the original case or 67W charger.

Display and speakers

The 6.67-inch AMOLED panel is one of the X5 Pro’s strongest features. It offers 2400 × 1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh, 10-bit color, DCI-P3 coverage, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, plus a 240Hz touch-sampling rate. AMOLED delivers deep blacks and high contrast, making video and games look considerably better than typical budget LCD panels.

Xiaomi’s 500-nit typical and up-to-900-nit peak figures do not mean sustained 900-nit full-screen brightness. Automatic-brightness behavior and direct sunlight affect outdoor readability, and 120Hz mode uses more power than 60Hz. The panel remains very good for the price, but newer premium midrange phones generally provide more brightness headroom.

Performance and gaming

The 6nm Snapdragon 778G, clocked up to 2.4GHz with an Adreno 642L GPU, is still responsive for browsing, social apps, streaming, photography and multitasking. It handles many games well at sensible settings. UFS 2.2 storage is functional but slower than UFS 3.x storage in newer performance-oriented phones.

Poco advertised an AnTuTu result above 545,000 on its official page, but that is a specified or internal claim rather than a universal 2026 score. Firmware, temperature, battery level, benchmark version and test conditions change results. Sustained gaming can heat the phone and cause throttling; 120Hz hardware does not make every game run at 120 frames per second.

For a used unit, check for touch failures, charging-port wear, thermal throttling and battery swelling. A newer Poco F-series device may be a better gaming buy even if its camera specification appears less impressive.

Battery life and 67W charging

The 5,000mAh battery and up-to-67W wired charging were strong launch features. Xiaomi notes that actual charging power depends on the charger, cable, battery level, temperature and usage. Wireless and reverse-wireless charging are not supported.

In a launch-era test, Android Authority reported more than nine hours of screen-on time across two days of moderate use. That result describes a newer battery, not a guaranteed outcome from a three-year-old phone. Used buyers should request battery-health evidence where available, look for swelling or frame separation and test charging under load. A missing or incompatible charger can also prevent the advertised charging speed.

Cameras: useful main sensor, ordinary supporting cameras

Main camera

The 108MP f/1.9 main camera uses a 1/1.52-inch sensor and nine-to-one pixel binning to produce approximately 2.1μm effective pixels. It can produce detailed, attractive daylight photos for this class.

Ultrawide and macro

The 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide has a 120-degree field of view and is serviceable in good light. The 2MP macro camera is a low-value specification rather than a major reason to buy the phone. There is no telephoto camera, limiting optical reach and portrait flexibility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Video and low light

The main camera records up to 4K at 30fps and 1080p at up to 60fps. Image quality depends on dynamic range, motion handling, autofocus, skin tones, stabilization and night processing—not just megapixels. Newer phones can offer better stabilization, HDR processing, ultrawide results and front-camera quality.

Software and update status

The X5 Pro shipped with MIUI 14 for Poco based on Android 12. Xiaomi says security support is generally maintained for at least two years after first shipment, with some models receiving three years or longer; duration varies by product and region. See Xiaomi’s support policy.

The most important 2026 caveat is regional end-of-life status. Xiaomi’s security center, updated July 2, 2026, lists POCO X5 Pro 5G (Indonesia) among EOL products. That does not prove every European, Indian, global or other regional variant shares the same date. The X5 Pro is at or beyond its normal support window in some regions, so identify the exact model rather than assuming one universal deadline.

Network compatibility and imported models

The global specification lists 5G bands n1, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n77 and n78. LTE includes FDD bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28 and 66, plus TDD bands 38, 40 and 41. Xiaomi notes that band 66 is limited in Mexico and that 5G depends on local operator support. See the official FAQ.

For US buyers, bands alone do not guarantee service. Carrier certification, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, provisioning and regional firmware can determine whether calls and data work. Check the exact model number against the carrier’s current compatibility database before paying; “global version” is not a promise of reliable US operation.

How it compares with newer phones

A Poco X6 Pro or a newer Poco F-series model generally offers a newer chipset, faster storage and more remaining software life. The relevant question is whether the price difference is small enough to justify buying new. Current Poco models can be reviewed through Xiaomi’s product list; the X6 Pro reference page is here.

Newer Redmi Note phones may provide newer software and cameras but differ in gaming performance. Samsung Galaxy A models can offer stronger update, service and carrier-integration arguments, often with less raw performance. Pixel A-series phones usually have better computational photography and support, but slower charging, different gaming performance and region-specific network limitations. Motorola midrange models vary widely in chipset, cameras and update policy. Compare exact current prices, warranty and support rather than choosing by brand alone.

Used-buying checklist

  1. Confirm whether the phone is 6GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB.
  2. Record the exact model number and sales region.
  3. Check the IMEI and your carrier’s compatibility database.
  4. Ask whether the bootloader is unlocked or the software modified.
  5. Inspect the AMOLED panel for burn-in, dead pixels, green tint and touch failures.
  6. Test cameras, autofocus, USB-C charging, 67W behavior, fingerprint reader, speakers and headphone jack.
  7. Test Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and both SIM slots.
  8. Look for swelling, frame separation, water damage and cracked back glass.
  9. Check the installed security patch and latest available update.
  10. Confirm a factory reset and Google-account removal.
  11. Verify that the charger is genuine or compatible with Xiaomi’s fast-charging requirements.
  12. Prefer a seller offering returns, because battery health and regional compatibility are difficult to establish from a listing.

Who should buy it?

Buy when

  • The price is substantially below comparable newer phones.
  • The battery and physical condition are demonstrably good.
  • The regional model works on your carrier.
  • You specifically value the AMOLED display, gaming performance, fast charging, headphone jack, IR blaster or dual-SIM support.
  • You accept limited or uncertain remaining security support.

Avoid when

  • It costs close to a newer Poco X-series or F-series phone.
  • You need several years of guaranteed security updates.
  • You require dependable telephoto or high-quality ultrawide photography.
  • You need wireless charging, microSD expansion or strong water resistance.
  • The seller cannot identify the model, region, storage, battery condition or software status.
  • The battery is swollen, drains abnormally or the correct fast charger is missing.

Final verdict

The Poco X5 Pro still delivers a compelling mix of display quality, everyday speed, gaming capability, battery capacity, charging and useful legacy hardware. In August 2026 it is a value purchase only when the discount is large enough to compensate for battery aging, uncertain regional support and import risks. Treat current price, exact network variant, return protection and software status as part of the phone’s real specification—not as afterthoughts.
