What to verify before choosing a package
- Exact handset: The third-party page groups the Poco M8x and Redmi 17 5G together and calls the codename “steppe.” Confirm the model and codename for your particular handset rather than relying on the product name alone.
- ROM region: The page lists distinct Global, India, and Europe packages. Do not assume that a package for one region is appropriate for a phone configured for another.
- Package authority and currency: The listed versions are third-party claims. The available sources do not establish model-specific Xiaomi confirmation of these files or flashing paths. Seek confirmation from Xiaomi before proceeding.
What the third-party guide says you need
The GETDroidTips page describes recovery and Fastboot methods. Its stated prerequisites are a working computer, Xiaomi USB drivers, at least 50% battery, and a complete backup; it also calls for Xiaomi Mi Flash software for its Fastboot route. These are the guide’s claims, not a verified, model-specific Xiaomi procedure. A USB cable is also needed to connect a phone to a computer; confirm that it supports data transfer, since a charge-only cable will not serve that purpose.

The page warns that flashing may damage the device. Its steps should not be treated as tested instructions for this model. If you cannot establish that the package and procedure are supported for your exact handset, do not proceed on the basis of the listing alone.
Understand the risks before unlocking or flashing
Xiaomi UK Support gives this general warning: “To ensure the safety of your device, avoid unlocking the Bootloader.” Xiaomi says bootloader unlocking can expose system permissions to malicious software or unverified firmware, affect warranty and future service, and cause data loss, boot failures, or compatibility problems with unsupported ROMs. This general support statement does not confirm current unlock eligibility or a device-specific process for the Poco M8x or Redmi 17 5G. When to stop and seek help
If you cannot verify the model, codename, region, package, and supported process with Xiaomi, the safer choice is to pause rather than flash an uncertain file. Owners who do not want to take on bootloader or firmware risks can contact Xiaomi or seek qualified service. Local availability and service terms vary, and Xiaomi’s general warning does not establish a specific service option for this model.
