POCO F9 Ultra vs. Xiaomi 15: Which Phone Should You Buy?

By Freedom251 Team · · 10 min read

Choose the POCO F9 Ultra if you want a much larger screen, gaming-focused hardware, a substantially higher listed battery capacity and a 5x telephoto camera. Choose the Xiaomi 15 if you prefer a compact, lighter phone with a 6.36-inch display and a Leica-branded triple-camera system. Neither is automatically the better value: compare the same storage tier, local price, warranty and network compatibility before buying.

The short answer

What matters most POCO F9 Ultra Xiaomi 15
Large-screen gaming 6.9-inch-class AMOLED, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, VisionBoost D8 and up to 185Hz in selected games 6.36-inch AMOLED, Snapdragon 8 Elite and 1–120Hz refresh rate
Portability 235g review-listed weight; 163.5 × 77.9 × 8.7mm 191–192g and 152.3 × 71.2mm on Xiaomi Australia’s specification page
Listed battery capacity 8,050mAh typical 5,240mAh typical
Charging ratings 100W wired, 50W wireless 90W wired, 50W wireless
Main camera approach 200MP OIS main camera, 5x OIS telephoto and 50MP ultra-wide Leica 50MP main with OIS, 60mm floating 50MP telephoto with OIS and 50MP ultra-wide
Best fit Players, media users and buyers who prioritize endurance and reach One-handed use, lower weight and a Leica-tuned camera system

Those specifications describe different priorities rather than two versions of the same phone. The POCO F9 Ultra is physically large and explicitly built around sustained performance. The Xiaomi 15 is closer to a compact flagship: it gives up screen area and battery capacity for a body that is easier to carry and operate with one hand.

Size, weight and everyday handling

POCO F9 Ultra: a large phone by design

The POCO F9 Ultra uses a roughly 6.9-inch display and is listed at 163.5 × 77.9 × 8.7mm. TechRadar’s September 2026 review lists its weight at 235g. That combination makes it better suited to two-handed typing, video viewing and landscape gaming than to discreet one-handed use. A case adds more width and weight, so buyers with smaller hands should try the phone in a shop or check the seller’s return policy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Is the POCO F9 Ultra too big?” is therefore a personal ergonomics question, not a specification error. The large panel can reduce scrolling and make game controls easier to see, but it also occupies more pocket space and creates more leverage when you hold it at the top edge. Reachability modes can help with software controls; they cannot make the chassis as compact as the Xiaomi 15.

Xiaomi 15: compact flagship proportions

Xiaomi Australia lists the Xiaomi 15 at 152.3 × 71.2mm and 191–192g, with the small weight variation depending on finish. Its 6.36-inch screen is still large enough for maps, messaging and streaming, while the narrower body is easier to grip and use with one hand. If you frequently operate a phone while walking, commuting or carrying something in your other hand, the Xiaomi’s dimensions are the more practical choice.

The lower weight is also noticeable during long reading or gaming sessions. The trade-off is a smaller canvas for virtual controls and video, and a battery listed at a much lower capacity than the POCO’s. Compact phones can still have excellent endurance, but capacity figures alone do not predict runtime.

Displays and gaming performance

What the POCO F9 Ultra’s 185Hz claim means

POCO’s global product page specifies a 6.9-inch-class AMOLED display with support for refresh rates up to 185Hz, plus a VisionBoost D8 display chip. The 185Hz figure applies to selected games rather than every application. POCO qualifies the result by noting that frame rate depends on the game, graphics settings, software, network conditions, temperature and other factors.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

TechRadar’s September 2026 review found that 185Hz was available in only a small subset of games at review time. Ordinary navigation and most everyday use generally ran at 120Hz. A higher maximum can make a supported game feel smoother and reduce perceived motion blur, but it should not be treated as a permanent 185Hz mode across the operating system.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform gives the POCO its current high-end performance positioning. The display chip and gaming controls are relevant if you play titles that specifically support the enhanced refresh mode. Before buying, check whether your own games appear on POCO’s supported-title list and whether the mode requires a particular graphics preset.

Xiaomi 15: 1–120Hz on a smaller panel

The Xiaomi 15 has a 6.36-inch 2670 × 1200 AMOLED display with a 1–120Hz refresh range, according to Xiaomi Australia. Its Snapdragon 8 Elite platform is also a high-end processor, but the phone does not advertise an equivalent 185Hz gaming mode. A 120Hz ceiling is already smooth for general scrolling and most mobile games, while the smaller display can make the device easier to hold in landscape.

For competitive games, the choice comes down to supported software and physical preference. The POCO offers more headroom where a title supports 185Hz and gives you a larger view of controls. The Xiaomi provides a consistent 120Hz experience in a lighter body. Neither specification proves higher real-world frame rates in every game; thermal behavior, game optimization and graphics settings still determine performance.

Which screen is better for your use?

  • Choose the POCO’s panel if you watch a lot of video, use split-screen apps, or want the largest possible game view.
  • Choose the Xiaomi’s panel if pocketability, one-handed reach and a lighter landscape grip matter more than maximum size.
  • Do not pay for the 185Hz headline solely for menus or social apps; TechRadar observed that normal use was generally 120Hz.

Processors, software and support

The POCO F9 Ultra is listed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while Xiaomi lists the Snapdragon 8 Elite for the Xiaomi 15. The names indicate different platform generations, but the supplied specifications do not include a controlled benchmark conducted on both phones. Treat the chips as indicators of each model’s performance class rather than proof that one will be faster in every workload.

TechRadar’s review says the POCO launched with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. The same review reports four Android platform updates and six years of security updates. Those commitments should be confirmed against the policy for your country and the exact regional model before purchase, because update schedules and eligibility can differ by market.

POCO Global Senior Product Manager Kang Lou told TechRadar, “From our end, we believe performance is not always about chasing the latest chipset.” That statement helps explain the product’s emphasis on the complete gaming system—display controller, refresh support, cooling and software tuning—rather than processor branding alone.

No equivalent country-specific software-support term is established here for the Xiaomi 15. Ask the local seller or Xiaomi support channel for the promised Android-version and security-update period for your region. Also check whether the handset is an official local model rather than an imported variant, since update timing, languages, warranty and network bands can vary.

Battery capacity and charging

The numbers

Specification POCO F9 Ultra Xiaomi 15
Typical battery capacity 8,050mAh, listed by POCO 5,240mAh, listed by Xiaomi Australia
Wired charging 100W 90W
Wireless charging 50W 50W
Adapter information POCO says to check the local seller about charger inclusion Xiaomi Australia says the power adapter and wireless charger are sold separately

The POCO has a 2,810mAh higher listed typical capacity and a 10W higher wired charging rating. Both phones are listed at 50W wireless charging. These are manufacturer capacities and charging ratings, not a head-to-head battery-life test.

Why capacity is not the same as runtime

No cited source establishes a controlled battery-life comparison between the two phones. Actual endurance depends on display size and brightness, refresh mode, modem signal, game load, camera use, background synchronization, temperature and software. The POCO’s larger battery gives it more energy on paper, but its larger, high-refresh display and gaming-oriented hardware can also consume more power. The Xiaomi’s smaller screen and lower capacity cannot be ranked from the numbers alone.

When comparing charging, include the cost and availability of a compatible adapter. Xiaomi Australia explicitly says its adapter is sold separately. POCO directs buyers to ask the local seller whether an adapter is included, so two apparently similar retail listings can have different out-of-box value.

Camera hardware and photo priorities

POCO F9 Ultra cameras

POCO lists a 200MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 5x telephoto camera with OIS and a 50MP ultra-wide. The 5x module is the key differentiator for distant subjects: it is designed to preserve more detail at that reach than a simple digital crop from the main sensor.

TechRadar found the 5x telephoto useful in its September 2026 review. The reviewer also described the ultra-wide as weaker in low light. That is a review observation, not a laboratory comparison with the Xiaomi 15, and results can change with software updates and scene lighting.

Xiaomi 15 Leica system

Xiaomi Australia lists a Leica-branded 50MP main camera with OIS, a 60mm floating 50MP telephoto with OIS and a 50MP ultra-wide. A 60mm-equivalent lens is a shorter telephoto perspective than the POCO’s stated 5x module, making it useful for portraits and moderate zoom while preserving a compact camera layout.

Leica branding describes the imaging partnership and tuning; it does not by itself guarantee better images in every scene. The Xiaomi’s three 50MP cameras provide consistent stated resolution across focal lengths, while the POCO combines a very high-resolution main sensor with a longer dedicated telephoto. Compare the focal length you use most, not just the megapixel count.

Which phone is better for photos?

  • Pick the POCO if distant subjects, concerts, travel details or a true 5x perspective are frequent priorities.
  • Pick the Xiaomi if you value a compact camera experience, Leica tuning and a 60mm floating telephoto for people and everyday subjects.
  • For night scenes, inspect local samples or use a return period. The available review specifically called out the POCO ultra-wide’s low-light weakness, while no controlled cross-phone camera test is established here.

Price, storage and regional purchase checks

A fair value verdict requires the same storage tier and the same market. TechRadar’s September 2026 review reported launch-region prices for the POCO, but those figures are not a guaranteed current offer. No comparable current Xiaomi 15 price is established in the cited material. Promotions, import taxes, retailer margins and currency changes can alter the result.

  1. Storage and memory: match the configuration. Xiaomi Australia’s cited specification lists 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage; other regions or sellers may offer different combinations.
  2. Model number and bands: verify 4G and 5G frequency compatibility with your carrier, especially for imported units.
  3. Warranty: determine whether service is provided locally and whether accidental damage or battery replacement is covered.
  4. Box contents: check for the charging adapter, cable and any regional differences. Xiaomi Australia states that its adapter and wireless charger are sold separately; POCO asks buyers to verify adapter inclusion with the seller.
  5. Software region: confirm the phone is intended for your country and that update support applies to that model.
  6. Return terms: use a seller with a clear return window if you cannot test ergonomics, camera quality or carrier reception before purchase.

Which phone should you buy?

Buy the POCO F9 Ultra for gaming and media

The POCO is the more purposeful choice for a player who wants a large AMOLED canvas, a supported refresh rate above 120Hz, a gaming display chip and a very large listed battery. Its 235g weight and wider body are acceptable trade-offs if you usually play with two hands or keep the phone on a stand. Check your games first, because 185Hz is title-dependent rather than universal.

Buy the Xiaomi 15 for one-handed use

The Xiaomi 15 is the better ergonomic fit if 191–192g, a 6.36-inch screen and a 71.2mm-wide body sound more manageable. It is easier to reach across with one thumb and less tiring to carry. You give up the POCO’s larger display, higher listed capacity and 5x telephoto, but gain a phone that behaves more like a compact flagship.

Choose based on camera reach

Choose POCO for the longer 5x OIS telephoto and 200MP main camera. Choose Xiaomi for the Leica-branded 50MP system and 60mm floating telephoto. If ultra-wide night photography is important, remember the review’s specific criticism of the POCO ultra-wide and seek local sample images before committing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose based on charging logistics

The POCO’s 100W wired rating is slightly higher than Xiaomi’s 90W rating, while wireless ratings are equal at 50W. The practical difference depends on whether the required adapter is in the box and whether you already own a compatible charger. Calculate the complete purchase cost rather than comparing headline wattage alone.

Do not choose on an unsupported battery-life promise

The POCO’s 8,050mAh typical figure is substantially higher than Xiaomi’s 5,240mAh figure, but the available sources do not provide a controlled endurance test. Treat the capacity gap as a reason to investigate, not as proof of a specific number of extra hours.

A final buying checklist

Use this sequence when you are ready to order:

  1. Write down your non-negotiable priority: compact handling, gaming refresh, camera reach, battery capacity or charging speed.
  2. Compare the same RAM and storage tier for both phones in your country.
  3. Confirm the exact model’s carrier bands and regional software.
  4. Ask whether the adapter, cable and wireless-charging accessories are included.
  5. Read the local warranty and return terms, not only the manufacturer’s global page.
  6. If gaming is the priority, verify your titles’ support for the POCO’s enhanced refresh mode.
  7. If photography is the priority, compare sample images at the focal length and lighting conditions you actually use.
  8. Recheck the final delivered price on the day of purchase; September 2026 launch pricing is not a permanent market price.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
