Yes. Pocket Casts now has a native app for Google TV and Android TV. The TV version arrived in Pocket Casts 8.21 and was reported on October 14, 2026, following the app’s earlier launch on Apple TV. It is designed for remote control, pairs with your existing Pocket Casts account, and keeps subscriptions, playlists and listening progress in sync across devices.
What the Android TV app does
This is a TV-native application, not a phone screen being mirrored or controlled through a casting session. After pairing, you can browse followed podcasts, folders, playlists, Up Next and search results with a television remote. Audio and video podcasts play directly on the TV, and playback can continue when the app is minimized or closed.

Pocket Casts also includes a Made for TV area with promoted and highlighted video content. Playback controls include speed adjustment, Trim Silence and Volume Boost. Existing account data—rather than a separate TV library—is the organizing principle, so the shows and queues you maintain elsewhere appear on the television.
Pocket Casts’ support documentation describes the app as available on both Google TV and Android TV. The launch report from 9to5Google dated October 14, 2026, says it was built specifically for set-top boxes and uses QR-code pairing instead of requiring you to type a long password with a remote.

Compatible devices and requirements
The official requirement is a Google TV or Android TV device running Android 9 or later. Examples identified by Pocket Casts include:
- Google TV Streamer
- Chromecast with Google TV
- Nvidia Shield
- Other Android TV boxes running Android 9 or newer
Compatibility can still depend on the exact device model and its Play Store certification. If Pocket Casts does not appear in the on-device store, check the device’s Android version and account region, then try the browser-based installation method below.
How to install Pocket Casts on Google TV or Android TV
- From the TV home screen, open the Google Play Store.
- Search for Pocket Casts.
- Select the official app and choose Install.
- When installation finishes, open Pocket Casts from the app row or your installed-apps list.
- Choose the sign-in option. Pocket Casts recommends scanning the QR code shown on the TV with your phone; email-and-password sign-in is also available.
If the TV search does not return the app, open the Google Play Store in a web browser while signed in to the Google account used on the television. Select Pocket Casts, choose one of your connected TV devices as the installation target, and send the install command. The device must be online and meet the Android 9 requirement.

Sign-in and synchronization
QR pairing links the TV app to the Pocket Casts account already used on your other devices. Once signed in, the TV can synchronize:
- Followed podcasts and folders
- Existing playlists
- Up Next queue
- Listening position and progress
- Episode states such as played, archived and starred
That synchronization means an episode started on a phone can be resumed on the TV, and progress made in the living room can be reflected on the phone or another supported Pocket Casts client. The TV app is therefore best suited to households that already organize their listening in a Pocket Casts account.

The interface is optimized for directional-pad navigation, so selecting a show, queue item or control does not require a phone. Video support makes the app more than an audio-only player, although the catalog and recommendations shown in Made for TV can differ from the subscriptions in your account.

Important limitations
The TV app streams episodes; it does not download them. Downloads saved on a phone are not shared with the television, and a playlist filtered to downloaded episodes will therefore be empty on TV. Reliable internet access is required for playback.
Pocket Casts lists several mobile, desktop or web functions that are not available in the TV app:
- Creating or editing playlists
- Uploaded Files
- Bookmarks
- Chapter browsing
- Transcripts
- Sleep timer
- Sharing and clips
- The Stats screen
Use the mobile, desktop or web app to perform those tasks, then return to the TV for browsing and playback. The account can still synchronize the resulting playlist or episode-state changes that the TV can display.

Native TV app versus casting from a phone
A native installation changes the control model. Casting leaves the phone as the controller and can be affected when the phone changes networks, switches apps or loses battery. The Android TV app keeps navigation and playback on the television, while account synchronization supplies the same queue and progress across devices.

Choose the TV app when you want a persistent, remote-first listening experience and synchronized account data. Casting remains useful when the TV hardware is unsupported or when you need a mobile-only function such as downloads, transcripts or playlist editing.

The app is missing from Google Play
Confirm that the television is running Android 9 or later and that you are searching the TV Play Store rather than a phone-only listing. If it still does not appear, use the web Play Store and select the connected TV device as the installation target.

The QR code will not pair
Open the Pocket Casts app on the phone you want to use for authentication, scan the code again, and verify that the phone and TV have internet access. If the code expires, return to the TV sign-in screen to generate a new one. Email-and-password sign-in is the fallback.
A downloaded-only playlist is empty
This is expected behavior, not a synchronization failure. TV playback is streaming-only, and downloads stored on another device are not exposed to the TV app.
Recently changed playlists or progress are not visible
Check that both devices are signed in to the same Pocket Casts account, then reopen the relevant screen or restart the TV app. Playlist creation and editing must be done on mobile, desktop or web; the TV can display supported existing lists but cannot modify them.
