Plënka Photo Marketplace: How a FED Camera Led to a C++23 Build

Plënka is a stock-photo marketplace that photographer and systems specialist Sergei Hanterov says he is building with help from AI coding tools. He says its backend uses C++23 and its frontend uses WebAssembly (WASM), choices he connects to speed and infrastructure costs. His account is a personal build-in-public introduction—not evidence that the marketplace has launched or that its technology is faster or cheaper.

How a Soviet FED camera connects to Plënka

In a DEV Community post published September 15, 2026, Hanterov traces the idea to a long-standing interest in photography and cameras. He recalls reading the print magazine Photo in the 1990s, local shops digitizing film, and shooting Kodak and Fujifilm. His camera of choice, he says, was an old Soviet FED rangefinder. He remembers its film image quality as “absolutely incredible”—a personal recollection, not the result of a camera test. Read Hanterov’s account on DEV Community.

Hanterov later studied computer networks and servers and worked with enterprise equipment. He says programming was not his preference, but the arrival of large language models prompted him to consider building a stock-photo marketplace with AI coding agents. He calls the project Plënka, explaining that the name means “film” in Russian. The post presents that path as his motivation; it does not independently assess the camera, market, or business idea.

Why choose C++23 and WebAssembly?

Hanterov says Plënka’s backend is written in C++23 and its frontend uses WebAssembly (WASM). He cites speed and the infrastructure costs faced by larger stock-photo businesses as reasons for those choices, describing the stack as “blazingly fast.” The post offers no benchmark, implementation details, or cost analysis to verify those claims. The choice should therefore be read as the founder’s rationale, not proof of a performance or savings advantage.

He also previews a future account of coordinating an AI-assisted development pipeline on an aging i5 laptop with four cores and 12 GB of RAM. That detail describes the planned account, not a published test showing what the hardware or AI tools can achieve.

What is—and is not—established about the marketplace

The indexed author-profile excerpt describes Plënka as pre-launch. That is the status reported in the source, not confirmation of its availability today. The excerpt also says photographers keep 75% of revenue and compares that offer with “the industry’s 15–40%.” Both figures are claims attributed to Hanterov’s profile; it gives no terms for the proposed share and identifies no companies, transaction types, dates, or method behind the comparison. They should not be treated as verified marketplace terms or an industry-wide statistic.

  • What the post establishes: Hanterov says he is building a stock-photo marketplace called Plënka, using AI coding assistance and a C++23 backend with a WASM frontend.
  • What it does not establish: that the marketplace has launched, has users or sales, or has demonstrated lower costs or better performance.
  • What to verify before relying on it: current availability and the detailed terms behind the stated photographer revenue share.

The source for these project details and attributed claims is Hanterov’s DEV Community post and indexed author-profile excerpt, published September 15, 2026. The account is best understood as an early founder story: a personal route from film photography and a FED rangefinder to an AI-assisted software project.
