If a Playwright screenshot shows only the visible viewport, set fullPage: true on the page screenshot. The option defaults to false, so viewport-only output is expected unless you request the full scrollable page.

For a direct page capture, pass fullPage: true to page.screenshot(). Playwright documents this option as capturing the full scrollable page rather than only the currently visible viewport, and its default is false. See the Playwright Page API.

Use page.screenshot() when you want a screenshot of the page. Set fullPage: true for its full scrollable content.

Element or locator screenshot
An element screenshot is bounded by that element, not the entire document. For a scrollable container, the screenshot may show only the content at its current scroll position. If the goal is the full document, take a page screenshot with fullPage: true instead. Playwright discourages ElementHandle.screenshot() in favor of locator-based locator.screenshot(); see the ElementHandle API.
Screenshot clipped to a rectangle
Check whether the call supplies clip. This option defines a rectangle for the output and can make a page screenshot appear cropped. Remove or adjust the rectangle if you need a different capture area. The option is documented in the Page API.

Automatic screenshots in Playwright Test
If the test runner takes screenshots automatically, configure the screenshot settings it uses. The documented use.screenshot object includes fullPage; see Playwright Test use options.
Visual screenshot assertions
expect(page).toHaveScreenshot() supports fullPage. Playwright waits for two consecutive screenshots to match before comparing them. Set the option in the assertion when the visual baseline should cover the full page; see Visual comparisons.

If the full-page image is still incomplete
First confirm that the missing content exists in the page by the time the screenshot is taken. Lazy-loaded sections or application-specific rendering may not have appeared yet. The Playwright references do not establish one universal workaround for those cases, so diagnose the page’s loading behavior rather than assuming fullPage: true forces every application to render all content.
- Check that the intended content has loaded before calling the screenshot method.
- Verify the screenshot is taken from the
Page, not an element or nested scrollable container. - Inspect the call for an unintended
cliprectangle. - If the output comes from test-runner automation or a visual assertion, confirm that API’s screenshot options include
fullPage: true.
Keep visual screenshot comparisons consistent
Capture scope and rendering consistency are separate issues. A full-page option determines how much of the page is captured; it does not make rendering identical across machines. Playwright notes that browser rendering can vary with host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, headless mode, and other factors. Generate and check visual baselines in a consistent environment, and use screenshot styles to hide dynamic elements or otherwise make captures repeatable where appropriate.
