Several PlayStation Store game and virtual-currency prices reportedly increased in South Korea, but Sony has not confirmed a worldwide rise in digital game prices. The October 13, 2026 report describes a local change and says its spread to other regions was unconfirmed.
What changed in South Korea’s PlayStation Store?
On October 13, 2026, iXBT Games reported higher South Korean PlayStation Store prices for several games and virtual-currency items. The figures below are reported prices, not an independently audited price history. The report names Gamestalk as its source and attributes part of its account to GameMeca. iXBT Games’ report

| The First Descendant, 5,750 Caliber bundle | ₩109,800 to ₩129,800 | Virtual currency rather than a game price |
| Genshin Impact virtual currency | Not stated | The report says changes were noticed but gives no exact price |
The report said Sony Korea had asked its headquarters for clarification. It did not provide a confirmed Sony explanation for the increases. A representative of one publisher suggested exchange-rate adjustments as a possible reason; that is speculation, not an official explanation from Sony.

No worldwide increase in digital game prices has been confirmed in the reporting available for this event. The reported changes concern the South Korean Store, and the report explicitly says there was no confirmation that they would reach other regions. That does not rule out future changes; it means the South Korean listings alone do not establish a global policy.

The report also said Sony first-party games, including Marvel’s Wolverine and God of War, retained their previous prices at that point. This is a snapshot, not a guarantee that those prices will remain unchanged.
Why the hardware-price announcement is a different story
Sony did announce a worldwide price increase for PS5-family hardware and PlayStation Portal on March 27, 2026, effective April 2. That announcement concerned hardware recommended prices—not PlayStation Store game listings. Sony’s Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing, said the decision reflected “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” Sony’s PlayStation.Blog announcement

Sony’s announcement also listed prices for the UK, Europe, and Japan. The Associated Press separately covered the hardware increase and Sony’s stated rationale; that reporting likewise does not establish a worldwide increase in digital game prices. Associated Press coverage
Discount experiments do not explain the South Korean increases
Separate reports in 2026 described variation in discounts shown to selected PlayStation Store users. TechRadar reported in March that PSPrices had observed an experiment involving different discounts for selected users in different regions; a September report described users seeing different discounts on Star Wars Jedi games. These accounts concern discounts or offer presentation, not the October South Korean base-price changes. They do not show that Sony charges different base prices to everyone or explain the increases reported in South Korea. TechRadar’s March report TechRadar’s September report
