God of War Laufey is the game PlayStation revealed after Marvel’s Wolverine in its June 2, 2026 State of Play recap. It is a new God of War chapter starring Laufey—also called Faye, Kratos’ wife—and Sony has confirmed it for PlayStation 5. A release date, price and preorder information have not been announced.
What Sony actually revealed
PlayStation’s official State of Play recap, published June 2, 2026, describes the presentation’s sequence directly: it opened with a closer look at Marvel’s Wolverine and concluded with the reveal of God of War Laufey. That presentation order is the basis for calling Laufey the next reveal after Wolverine.

Faye is the story’s central character
A protagonist returning from death
Laufey, known as Faye, is described as Kratos’ warrior wife. The premise begins after her death: what should have been the end becomes the starting point for another journey. That setup places Faye, rather than Kratos, at the center of the announced adventure.
A journey through the gods’ afterlife
According to Sony’s synopsis, Faye must fight through the afterlife of the gods to save the people she loves. The setting is described as a land overflowing with dangerous magic. The announcement establishes the objective and supernatural setting, but does not explain which gods appear, how combat works or how the story connects to earlier games.

What is confirmed for PlayStation 5
| Detail | Confirmed information |
|---|---|
| Platform | PlayStation 5 |
| Release date | Not announced in the June 2, 2026 recap |
| Release window | Not announced |
| Price, editions and preorder | Not announced |
| Developer | Not identified in the cited reveal |
| Gameplay format | Not specified; the recap gives a story premise but no single-player or multiplayer details |
Sony’s platform wording is straightforward: God of War Laufey is “coming to PlayStation 5.” That confirms the console target, but the announcement supplies no technical specifications, performance modes, storage requirement or PC and other-console plans.
Is God of War Laufey confirmed as a PS5 exclusive?
PlayStation has confirmed PS5, and no other platform appears in the cited reveal. However, “coming to PlayStation 5” is not the same statement as an explicit permanent exclusivity pledge. Until Sony names or rules out additional platforms, the precise evidence-based description is that Laufey is a confirmed PS5 title, with broader availability still unannounced.
Rank #3
This distinction matters because the Wolverine comparison has stronger wording. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s September 15, 2026 release announcement said Marvel’s Wolverine was available worldwide exclusively on PS5. Laufey’s reveal did not include that “exclusively” language.
Why the Wolverine reference can be confusing
Marvel’s Wolverine launched worldwide on September 15, 2026, exclusively for PS5. The June State of Play recap came earlier and used Wolverine as its opening segment before ending with the Laufey announcement. Therefore, “after Wolverine” describes the order of reveals in that presentation; it does not establish that Laufey will launch after Wolverine or that it has a scheduled release date.

- Those who break fate: Atreus seeks knowledge to help him understand the prophecy of "Loki" and what role he is to play in Ragnarök. Kratos must decide whether he will be chained by the fear of repeating his mistakes or break free of his past to be the father Atreus needs.
- Weapons of war : The Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos and Guardian Shield return alongside a host of new abilities for both Kratos and Atreus. As they take on gods and monsters from across the Nine Realms, Kratos's deadly Spartan skills will be tested like never before as he fights to protect his family.
- Explore the realms :Journey to dangerous and stunning landscapes and face a wide variety of enemy creatures, monsters and Norse gods as Kratos and Atreus search for answers and allies.

Details still needed before a purchase decision
Future PlayStation updates will need to establish:
- a release date or launch window;
- the studio developing the game and the people leading it;
- a full trailer or gameplay presentation;
- whether the game is designed as a single-player adventure, a multiplayer title or a hybrid;
- digital and physical editions, pricing and preorder timing; and
- whether Sony plans versions for platforms beyond PS5.
For now, the firm facts are narrower but significant: Faye is the protagonist, the story begins after death in the gods’ afterlife, and PlayStation 5 is the announced platform. Any claim about launch timing, price, editions or additional platforms goes beyond what Sony has disclosed.
