The report says the offer covers both people who bought the game and people who claimed it through PlayStation Plus. You still need a PS5 to use the upgraded version; “no PS Plus needed” describes the upgrade entitlement, not a promise that anyone can obtain the game without owning it or having claimed it previously.
What the reported free upgrade includes
According to the report, the PS4 edition would be replaced by the PS5 edition when the transition occurred. Eligible owners would receive the PS5 version without an additional upgrade charge, while their existing progress and later in-game purchases would carry over.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Game: Black Desert: Traveler Edition.
- Upgrade target: PlayStation 5.
- Eligible routes: A purchased copy or a copy claimed through PlayStation Plus, as described by GamingBible.
- Transferred items: Save data and additional purchases were reported to carry over.
- Existing PS5 owners: The report says their game would update automatically.
That policy is notable because PlayStation Plus claims are often treated differently from purchases when a publisher prices a remaster upgrade.
Do PlayStation Plus claimants qualify?
Yes—GamingBible’s 3 April 2025 report specifically says that players who claimed Black Desert: Traveler Edition through PlayStation Plus qualify for the free PS5 upgrade. This is the basis for the “no PS Plus needed” reaction: the claim itself is reported to preserve eligibility, rather than forcing the player to buy the remaster separately.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The article quoted one subscriber reacting, “So the folks that claimed it through PS Plus get the free upgrade? I’m excited to try the new version, the PS4 one looked really blurry and awful.” That is a reader reaction, not an official statement from Sony or the developer.
What happens to your PS4 save and purchases?
Save data
The report says PS4 save data carries over to the PS5 version. It does not specify whether transfer is automatic in every region or whether players must use a particular cloud, console-to-console, or in-game process, so the exact procedure should be checked when the upgrade appears on your account.

Do you need a PS5?
Yes. The reported free entitlement is for a PS5 version, and a PS4 console cannot run that PS5 build. If you only own a PS4, the practical consequence is that you may retain the entitlement associated with your account but cannot use the upgraded edition until you have access to a PlayStation 5.

The report also says the PS4 version would no longer be available to download or play once the PS5 version arrived. That makes the timing important for anyone still playing on PS4: the article does not describe a period in which both editions remain usable.
How this differs from another reported remaster policy
GamingBible’s 14 February 2025 coverage of Days Gone Remastered described a different rule. It reported a $10 PS5 upgrade for purchased digital or physical copies, while PlayStation Plus redemptions were excluded.

| Reported title | Purchased copy | PlayStation Plus claim | Upgrade price reported |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Desert: Traveler Edition | Eligible for free PS5 upgrade | Eligible for free PS5 upgrade | Free |
| Days Gone Remastered | Eligible for PS5 upgrade | Excluded from the upgrade | $10 for eligible copies |
The Days Gone article reproduced a Reddit comment saying, “Game redemptions via PS Plus are not eligible for the $10 upgrade to the remastered version on PS5.” That wording was attributed to Reddit user kabirsingh84, not to Sony or another official spokesperson, so it should not be treated as a universal PlayStation policy.
What remains unconfirmed
The Black Desert report is secondary coverage dated 3 April 2025. It does not establish the precise rollout date, regional availability, PlayStation Store wording, or whether the policy has changed since publication. It also does not explain the exact save-transfer steps or list every purchase category covered.

Before deleting a PS4 installation or planning a purchase around the offer, check the current PlayStation Store listing and announcements from PlayStation or Pearl Abyss for your region. Those sources are the appropriate authority for the live entitlement, release timing, and any account-specific restrictions.
What PS4 players should do
- Confirm that your account either purchased Black Desert: Traveler Edition or claimed it through PlayStation Plus.
- Keep the account that holds the license signed in on the PS5 you intend to use.
- Back up important PS4 save data before the version change, even though the report says saves carry over.
- After the PS5 release appears, check your game library and the title’s store page for the upgrade prompt or automatic update.
- If saves or purchases are missing, verify that you are using the same PlayStation Network account and then consult current PlayStation or Pearl Abyss support instructions.
Bottom line
GamingBible reported that both buyers and PlayStation Plus claimants of Black Desert: Traveler Edition would receive a free PS5 upgrade, with saves and later purchases preserved. The offer is useful only on a PS5, and the same report says the PS4 version would disappear from download and play when the PS5 edition arrived. Because the details come from secondary reporting, verify the live regional policy before relying on it.
