Gloom Gate: reaction-based dungeon action
Pick Gloom Gate if you want a solo action RPG structure: dungeon crawling, real-time sword fights, equipment and leveling. The official description explicitly combines old-school dungeon design with soulslike elements and says good timing and reactions are important. The crank is optional for some parts, so you can choose it for combat and exploration without making crank operation the entire premise.
The content note matters for younger players. Sword fights against monsters can look scary to young children, although the listing says there is no visible blood. Sound Mind: turn-taking for two people
Sound Mind is the strongest fit for two people using one Playdate. It is described as a hide-and-seek strategy game played in turns, so it does not require a second handheld for the stated format. Audio is central, and the listing warns that it may not be playable for people with hearing loss; consider that a core access requirement rather than a minor detail.

Its tone is dark comedy. The official disclosure references death and funerals and obliquely mentions murder. Also note the date qualification: the listing says Sound Mind was first published in 2023. Although it appears in the Season Three previews, it should not be described as a newly made 2026 game. HELLEVATOR: precise input and procedural variation
Choose HELLEVATOR if you want fast-paced action/adventure with exploration and enemies. The publisher/developer listing describes three biomes, relics, weapons, potions and procedural replay variation. Those are feature claims from the official description, not independent testing results. It also says precise button input is required, so it is a better match for players who enjoy demanding controls than for someone looking for a low-pressure adventure.

Three announced titles without enough detail to choose by style
Bonkhope (indiana-jonas), Chance’s Lucky Escape 2 (Goloso Games & Julia Minamata) and Cross Words (Shaun Inman) are named on the Season Three page as upcoming titles. The official page checked does not publish their genres, control notes, content disclosures or release weeks. Keep them on your watch list, but do not infer that they are puzzle games, child-safe, crank-focused or accessible for a particular need until an official description is available.
Do Playdate Season Three games use the crank?
Most do use the Playdate’s D-pad, A and B buttons and crank, according to Panic’s season page, but the importance of the crank varies by title.

Weekly delivery
Season Three launched on October 8, 2026, with two games in the October 8–15 first-week window. The format continues at two games per week for four weeks. Games remain associated with your Playdate account after their delivery week, so missing an automatic download does not make a delivered game disappear. Storage and battery preparation
Playdate Help estimates that Season Three uses about 226 MB of storage. If space becomes tight, owners can offload or delete game executables and reinstall them later. Automatic delivery requires an internet connection, and Playdate recommends at least 20% battery charge for automatic downloads.

- Choose your pace. Pick Gloom Gate or HELLEVATOR for action; pick houm for slower investigation and puzzle solving; pick Sound Mind for turn-based social play.
- Decide whether you are playing alone. Sound Mind is explicitly designed around two people taking turns on one Playdate. The other descriptions do not make that same shared-device promise.
- Read the title-level warning. Check audio, English text, microphone, Wi-Fi, OS and content notes before downloading, especially for children or players with access needs.
