Not automatically—but “No-Cost EMI” is still a financing obligation, not a free phone. For an iPhone 18 Pro in India, Apple says the EMI interest is offset by a discount on the transaction value, while you remain responsible for repaying the principal and applicable interest to your card issuer. Fees or other issuer conditions may still affect what you pay. The key question is whether the written total and monthly installments fit your budget.
What does No-Cost EMI actually cost?
Apple India’s stated mechanism is that, when you select No-Cost EMI, it discounts an amount equivalent to the total EMI interest from the transaction value. You still repay the principal and applicable interest to the card issuer. In other words, the interest is addressed through the transaction discount; the financing obligation does not disappear.

Apple says it does not charge an EMI processing or convenience fee itself, but your eligible card issuer may charge one. The issuer’s quote is therefore essential: a discount equivalent to interest does not, by itself, establish that there are no other costs.
Apple’s EMI terms say: “Your eligible card issuer is the authoritative source of this information and you are advised to contact your eligible card issuer for any further clarifications in this regard.” Ask for the terms in writing before you confirm the purchase.

What are the current iPhone 18 Pro EMI terms in India?
As checked on October 3, 2026, Apple India lists the iPhone 18 Pro 256GB at ₹164,900 and displays monthly EMI pricing. Apple also describes up to six months of No-Cost EMI on eligible products from most leading banks. Availability depends on the product, offer, card, and issuer terms; the monthly amount shown on Apple’s page is indicative, and your issuer is authoritative for exact pricing. See Apple India’s iPhone 18 Pro page.
A current offer from one Apple Authorised Reseller illustrates why the details matter. IndiaiStore describes six-month No-Cost EMI for eligible credit-card EMI transactions using Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, and SBI Card, for an offer period of September 18 to December 26, 2026. It describes tenures longer than six months as Low-Cost EMI. Its terms say bank processing fees and GST on the interest component may apply under bank terms. These are terms of this particular reseller promotion, not a guarantee for every seller, card, or purchase. Read the IndiaiStore offer terms.
The same promotion advertises up to ₹7,000 instant cashback on eligible EMI transactions with the named bank cards and up to ₹10,000 exchange bonus for eligible trade-ins at participating stores. The maximums are conditional: card and payment-terminal eligibility, minimum transaction amounts, assessment of the old device, participating location, and other promotion terms can affect the benefit. Do not subtract either maximum from your expected cost unless your transaction qualifies.

How should you compare full payment, No-Cost EMI, and Low-Cost EMI?
Compare the amount you will actually pay over the whole transaction—not just the installment shown at checkout. A longer tenure can reduce each monthly payment while increasing the total cost or extending the period you owe money.
| Option | What to establish | What the available terms say |
|---|---|---|
| Full payment | Full-payment price and any non-EMI discount you can actually use. | Apple India lists ₹164,900 for the iPhone 18 Pro 256GB as checked October 3, 2026. A separate non-EMI discount is not stated in the cited terms. |
| Six-month No-Cost EMI | Financed principal, interest, the corresponding offer discount, fees and taxes, total payable, card eligibility, and due dates. | Apple describes up to six months on eligible products from most leading banks, subject to the offer and issuer. IndiaiStore’s cited promotion limits its six-month offer to eligible Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, and SBI Card credit-card EMI transactions; its terms warn of possible bank fees and GST on the interest component. |
| Longer Low-Cost EMI | Monthly installment and total payable across the entire tenure, including fees and taxes. | IndiaiStore describes tenures longer than six months as Low-Cost EMI in its promotion. Exact rates and total cost depend on bank terms and are not stated as a universal amount. |
For every option, also compare return and cancellation handling, any pre-closure charge or interest adjustment, and whether a cashback or trade-in benefit is genuinely available to you. A smaller monthly installment is not evidence that an option is cheaper overall.
When might EMI become a debt problem?
The financing offer alone does not establish that buying the phone is a “debt trap.” The practical risk is taking on repayments that compete with essential expenses or existing obligations, or agreeing to costs and conditions you have not checked. No quantified study of individual smartphone EMI outcomes is established by the cited sources, so they cannot support a claim that this purchase will inevitably damage your credit score or cause household hardship.

Judge the commitment against your own cash flow. If the installment only fits by delaying essential bills, relying on new borrowing, or leaving no room for existing repayments, the purchase is not comfortably affordable at that payment level. Do not treat a promotion, cashback headline, or lower monthly figure as a reason to stretch your budget.
What to check before you confirm the purchase
- Get the issuer’s written quote. Confirm the financed principal, interest, and the discount that offsets the interest under the offer.
- Ask for the all-in total. Check processing or convenience fees, GST and any other tax, then add the installments and charges to find the total payable for the full tenure.
- Verify eligibility and timing. Confirm that your card, product, seller, tenure, and payment method qualify; check your available card limit and each payment due date.
- Read the exit terms. Ask the issuer and seller what happens to the EMI, interest, fees, and any promotion if you return or cancel the phone, or pre-close the balance. Apple advises customers to ask the issuer about the effect on EMI, pre-closure, or interest charges.
- Compare with paying in full. Include only discounts, cashback, or trade-in value you have confirmed you can receive, and compare the final totals rather than headline benefits.
- Keep the offer terms. Save the written issuer quote and the promotion terms that apply at checkout, since offers can be revised or withdrawn.
What RBI’s wording does—and does not—tell you
A Reserve Bank of India credit-card directions search result states: “EMI conversion with interest component shall not be camouflaged as zero-interest/no-cost EMI.” That wording reinforces the importance of clear disclosure when interest is involved. It is not a substitute for checking the current directions and your specific offer terms; the cited RBI page was not directly retrievable for verification, so no broader legal conclusion should be drawn from that search-result excerpt alone.
