On a Windows PC, check your hardware against Planet Zoo 2’s published requirements first. If the computer is within the supported range, Frontier’s own troubleshooting order gives you two in-game changes to try: switch to full-screen mode and lower the overall graphics quality. Frontier does not name shadow, foliage, animal, water, resolution, upscaling, or anti-aliasing sliders in a priority order, so any article promising an official “best” combination of those controls is going beyond the available guidance.
The detailed troubleshooting instructions below are for the PC version. Console owners should use the display and performance options exposed by their Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 version rather than following PC menu directions.

Start with the hardware check, not a graphics slider
A settings change cannot make a computer meet a game’s minimum specification. Compare your system with the current requirements listed by Frontier Support before diagnosing every stutter as a menu problem. The figures below are the published PC specifications available at launch; Frontier notes that requirements can change during development.

#1 Best Overall
If your PC is below minimum
You can still try the two supported changes below, but the machine remains below the publisher’s baseline. The available information does not establish a guaranteed frame rate or a particular resolution that will make an under-spec system perform acceptably. Treat the result as a compatibility limitation, not proof that one hidden slider is wrong.
If your PC meets minimum or recommended specifications
Proceed in the order that isolates variables: change one setting, reproduce the same problem, and then decide whether to keep the change. This is a practical troubleshooting method, not a published benchmark or a promise of a specific performance gain.
The first in-game change: try full-screen mode
Frontier’s PC troubleshooting article says that trying full-screen mode may improve performance. It is a suggestion rather than a guaranteed fix, and the article does not quantify an average frame-rate increase.

- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Founders Edition
- The GeForce RTX 3070 is powered by Ampere—NVIDIA’s 2nd gen RTX architecture.
- Built with enhanced RT Cores and Tensor Cores, new streaming multiprocessors, and high-speed G6 memory, it gives you the power you need to rip through the most demanding games.
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Powered by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics processing unit (GPU) with a 1695MHz boost clock speed to help meet the needs of demanding games. 8GB GDDR6 (256-bit) Video Memory.
- Antialiasing and anisotropic filtering delivers striking graphics with incredible realism. HDMI and Display Port outputs enable flexible connectivity. PCI Express 4.0 and earlier PCI Express 3.0. Offers compatibility with a range of systems.
- Open Planet Zoo 2 on PC.
- Open the game’s settings or options menu and locate the display or graphics section.
- Set the display mode to full-screen, apply the change, and return to the same activity that exposed the problem.
- If the issue is unchanged, record that result before moving to the next supported change.
Use the exact label shown by your installed build. A later update can move a control or rename it, so do not assume that a windowed, borderless, or full-screen option has identical behavior on every version.
The second in-game change: lower overall graphics quality
Frontier also advises lowering the game’s overall graphics quality from the in-game menu. This is the other specifically supported display/graphics action; it is not a recommendation to set every individual option to a particular value.
- Open the in-game settings or options menu.
- Find the overall graphics-quality control or preset.
- Lower it one step, apply the change, and test the same zoo, camera view, or activity that was slow.
- If the problem persists, lower it another step only if the visual trade-off is acceptable, then test again.
Changing one control at a time makes it possible to tell whether full-screen mode or the quality reduction helped. No published Frontier guidance identifies a priority among shadow quality, foliage, animal detail, water, resolution, upscaling, anti-aliasing, or other named sliders. Avoid presenting values for those controls as official, tested, or universal recommendations.

What to check after those two settings
If full-screen mode and lower overall quality do not resolve the problem, Frontier’s troubleshooting sequence moves to software and system checks. These are not extra graphics presets; they address damaged files, drivers, overlays, and competing programs.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Verify the game files
Use your PC store client’s file-verification function to check for missing or corrupted installation data. The exact button name can differ by client and version. Let the check complete, allow it to replace or reacquire any damaged files, then restart the game and retest.
Update or clean-install the graphics driver
Install a current driver for your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU. If ordinary updating does not help, Frontier includes a clean driver installation among its checks. Follow the driver manufacturer’s current installer instructions and restart Windows when requested. Do not remove a working driver blindly; make sure you have the correct package for your GPU and operating-system version.

Disable overlays temporarily
Frontier specifically calls out Steam, Xbox, Discord, and GeForce overlays. Turn those overlays off one at a time, restart the game, and test. If the symptom disappears, re-enable them individually later to identify which overlay conflicts with the game. An overlay can affect crashes or presentation even when the underlying graphics preset is unchanged.
Close demanding background and recording programs
Quit background applications that consume substantial CPU, GPU, memory, or disk bandwidth, including recording and capture software. Keep only the programs needed to test the game, then repeat the same scenario. This check helps distinguish a game setting issue from resource contention elsewhere in Windows.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Use a different branch for crashes, unusual heat, or instability
A crash, abnormal heat, or severe instability is not simply a request for a lower visual preset. Frontier’s PC article includes further troubleshooting and support guidance for those symptoms. Follow that guidance rather than repeatedly changing sliders. Keep notes on when the failure occurs, whether it happens in menus or during play, and which of the file, driver, overlay, and background-program checks you completed; that information makes a support request more actionable.

Know which platform the instructions cover
The detailed performance article is explicitly written for PC. Store listings establish that the game is available on PC and Xbox Series X|S, and on PlayStation 5, but the sources do not provide a console-specific performance-settings guide.
| Platform | What the available guidance supports |
|---|---|
| PC | Use the hardware check, full-screen test, lower overall graphics quality, file verification, driver checks, overlay checks, and background-program checks described above. |
| Xbox Series X|S | The Xbox listing confirms the platform. Use options shown in the console build; the PC troubleshooting menu path is not established for Xbox. |
| PlayStation 5 | The PlayStation listing confirms PS5 availability. Use the PS5 version’s own display and performance controls; PC instructions do not automatically transfer. |
Choose your next move from your hardware position
Below the minimum specification
- Confirm the processor, 16 GB memory, GPU model and VRAM, DirectX 12 capability, and available 40 GB storage against the table.
- Try full-screen mode and lower overall graphics quality if you want to test whether the game is usable.
- Set expectations conservatively: the published material does not promise a frame rate for hardware below minimum.
Between minimum and recommended
- Make the full-screen change first, then lower overall quality if needed.
- Run the file, driver, overlay, and background-program checks before spending money.
- Keep the setting that solves the problem with the smallest visual compromise, based on your own repeatable test.
At or above recommended
- Still begin with the same two in-game changes if performance is poor; recommended hardware is not an exemption from software conflicts or corrupted files.
- Continue to the troubleshooting checks if settings do not help.
- Do not assume that buying an even faster component is necessary without identifying a hardware shortfall or a reproducible bottleneck.
When a graphics-card upgrade is worth considering
Hardware replacement is a later, optional decision, not the first setting to change. Frontier lists the GeForce RTX 3070 among its recommended GPUs, but that listing does not mean every player needs to buy one, nor does it guarantee a particular performance result. Consider an upgrade only after confirming that your current PC is below or struggling against the published specification and after completing the free settings and troubleshooting checks. Product availability, prices, and compatibility depend on your region and system; the cited sources do not verify a particular retailer or model.
Why advice may change after launch
Steam lists Planet Zoo 2’s release date as October 13, 2026. The performance article from Frontier is dated September 25, 2026, and the requirements and in-game options are subject to later patches. The recommendations here reflect the launch-day information available on October 13, 2026. Recheck the current support article and your installed version after updates, especially if a patch adds display modes, changes requirements, or resolves a known performance issue.

Direct answer
For PC, verify that your system meets the current published requirements, switch to full-screen mode, and then lower the overall graphics-quality setting if necessary. If that does not solve the problem, verify files, update or clean-install the GPU driver, disable the named overlays, and close demanding background or recording programs. Frontier does not publish a first-choice order for individual graphics sliders, so use the controls your build actually provides and avoid treating an untested preset as an official fix.
