First, define what “not progressing” means

The displayed value never changes
Record the research name, its displayed percentage or status, the in-game date or other visible time indicator, and what you did while waiting. Do not assume a particular number of minutes is required: no official Planet Zoo 2 duration was established in the available guidance. If the value remains identical after ordinary, responsive gameplay, describe that observation precisely rather than calling it a confirmed bug.
The entry is unavailable or cannot be selected

Fast triage before making changes
- Confirm the product. Make sure the title is Planet Zoo 2, not the original Planet Zoo. The two games must not be treated as having identical research rules.
- Identify the platform. Record PC or Xbox Series X|S. Steam file verification and Windows or graphics-driver checks apply to PC; they are not Xbox procedures.

In Steam, open Library, right-click Planet Zoo 2, choose Properties, open Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Wait for Steam to finish and report its result, then start the game and reproduce the same research observation. Save the verification result and the time it was run for your support ticket. This checks installation files; it does not establish that the research data or rules are defective.

Review graphics-driver changes
Frontier lists reviewing graphics drivers among its PC troubleshooting advice. Check whether the driver is current and note the driver version. If the research symptom began after a driver change, include that chronology in your report. Avoid presenting a driver update or rollback as a confirmed research solution; the available support article addresses general rendering, launch and performance conditions.
Install current Windows updates
Apply pending Windows updates, restart the computer, and record the Windows version. This is a general compatibility check recommended in Frontier’s PC guidance. It is not evidence that Windows controls research progression.
Temporarily test without overlays and capture tools
Frontier advises disabling overlays. Temporarily turn off overlays or background capture features that hook into the game, such as the Steam overlay, Xbox Game Bar or graphics-card recording overlay, then reproduce the issue. Keep the test temporary and note exactly what was disabled. If the research display is unchanged but the game becomes more stable, report both observations rather than claiming the overlay caused the research state.
Check antivirus interference safely
Frontier also recommends reviewing antivirus settings. Confirm that the game executable and its launcher are not being blocked or quarantined. Use your security product’s documented allow-list process; do not leave protection disabled unnecessarily. Record any detection, quarantine event or exception you add. A clean antivirus result does not rule in or rule out a research defect.

Stop when the symptom is unchanged
If the game remains responsive, files verify successfully, drivers and Windows are current, overlays are absent and antivirus shows no interference, further repeating the same checks is unlikely to add useful information. Preserve your screenshots and move to a complete support report.
What Xbox Series X|S players should do
The announced console platform is Xbox Series X|S, but the reviewed official material does not provide a console-specific research-progress checklist or a confirmed console fix. Do not apply Steam verification, Windows updates or PC driver instructions to an Xbox console.
On Xbox, record the console model, game edition, displayed game version, exact research entry and the sequence that leaves it unchanged. Include whether the title remains responsive, whether the problem repeats after restarting the game, and whether it affects one saved game or more than one. These are observations for diagnosis, not claims about a known Xbox cause. Check Frontier’s current support and issue information for any newly published console guidance before taking destructive action such as removing local saves.
Do not substitute original Planet Zoo information
Frontier’s original Planet Zoo support documentation says a Steam Workshop blueprint can be unavailable when it uses research items the player has not unlocked. Similarly, statements about staff assignments, training, research buildings, power, connectivity, zoo modes or save corruption should not be presented as causes here unless a current Planet Zoo 2 source specifically supports them. The announcement quote that players will “need to manage staff morale and training as their zoo grows” describes general management, not research progression.

How to send a useful Frontier support report
If the symptom survives the appropriate checks, contact Frontier through its current support channel. Frontier’s PC guidance asks players to provide additional details and supporting documents such as screenshots or footage. A concise, reproducible report gives support something they can investigate instead of a conclusion they must first untangle.
Include these identification details
- Planet Zoo 2, platform and console model or PC configuration.
- Standard or Deluxe edition, if known.
- Game version or build number as displayed by the launcher or console.
- Operating-system version, graphics card and driver version for PC.
- Date and approximate time of the incident, including your time zone if relevant.
Describe the reproduction steps
- State where you were in the game when you opened the research interface.
- Name the exact research item and copy its displayed status or percentage.
- List the actions taken afterward and what continued to work.

- Explain whether the issue affects one save or every save you tested, without deleting the affected evidence.

Be explicit about steps that do not apply. For example, an Xbox report should say that Steam verification and Windows checks are not applicable. This prevents support from assuming that a missing test was overlooked.
How to judge new claims after launch
Because Planet Zoo 2 launched on October 13, 2026, new issue records and patches may appear after the general support article reviewed here. Treat a claim as confirmed only when it identifies Planet Zoo 2, the affected platform or build, the exact symptom and a change that Frontier has documented.
