Frontier Developments says the sequel will expand the zoo-management formula with fully aquatic and flying animals, customisable aquariums and aviaries, and conservation projects that continue outside the zoo in Wildlife Reserves. Availability and pricing can vary by platform and region, so check the relevant store before buying.
When does Planet Zoo 2 come out?
Frontier announced Planet Zoo 2 on 28 May 2026 and scheduled its release for 13 October 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A US PlayStation Store listing still displayed the game as a preorder on 13 October during the reviewed check. That storefront status does not establish whether the game is available at the same time in every country or on every platform.

What’s new in Planet Zoo 2?
Aquariums and aviaries
Frontier describes aquariums and aviaries as customisable habitats, bringing fully aquatic and flying species into the franchise for the first time. The announced feature material includes underwater exhibits and habitats designed around animals that move through the air, rather than treating them as ordinary land-animal enclosures.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Wildlife Reserves and global conservation
Conservation is intended to extend beyond the zoo. Players can undertake global conservation projects, restore natural habitats and release zoo animals into Wildlife Reserves. Frontier also describes the reserves as customisable, connecting creative construction with longer-term conservation goals.
More readable animal behaviour
Frontier says animals have more expressive behaviour and that a “living UI” communicates mood through what animals do and how they present themselves. The trailer walkthrough also highlights water that reacts dynamically to animals and a larger management role for cohabitation. These are developer descriptions of the intended simulation, not independent hands-on test results.

How animal welfare and zoo management work
Frontier’s stated management loop links species-specific needs, habitat design, animal welfare, visitor experience, zoo ratings and income. Habitats are meant to mirror natural environments and let animals interact authentically. A well-designed habitat is presented as benefiting both welfare and guests, helping generate the income needed to expand.
Staff management remains part of the challenge: the developer identifies staff morale and training as concerns alongside construction and animal care. Planet Zoo 2 game director Gareth Hughes told GamesRadar+ on 8 June 2026 that the goal is for problems to be understandable and actionable: “It’s all about things being readable. Something is happening, I understand what’s happening, and I understand why it’s happening, and I understand what I need to do to fix it.”

Together with the launch announcement and Xbox Wire walkthrough, those posts establish the announced direction: build and manage zoos, create aquatic and flying habitats, care for animal welfare, and use Wildlife Reserves for restoration and release projects.
