For stable performance in Planet Zoo 2, aim for Windows 11, an Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, 16GB of RAM, an NVIDIA RTX 3070, AMD RX 6700 XT or Intel Arc A770-class graphics card, DirectX 12 and a 40GB SSD installation. The published minimum is lower—Windows 10 or 11, an Intel i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB RAM and an RTX 2060, RX 5600 XT or Arc A750-class GPU—but that tier is only the support floor, not a guaranteed frame-rate target.
Planet Zoo 2 PC requirements at a glance
Frontier Developments lists two PC hardware tiers for the game, which launched on PC on 13 October 2026. Both tiers require 16GB of memory, DirectX 12 and 40GB of free space. The major difference is graphics power, followed by CPU generation and the type of Windows installation and storage Frontier expects.

These are Frontier’s 2026 published specifications. They describe supported hardware classes, not a promise of a particular frame rate, resolution, graphics preset or zoo size. Frontier also notes that minimum specifications can change during development, so check the current storefront and support information when you install or upgrade.
What “stable performance” means
The word stable needs careful interpretation because the official requirements do not publish an FPS goal or a benchmark scene. A computer that meets the minimum tier is inside the game’s stated support boundary. It is not automatically guaranteed to hold a chosen frame rate at 1080p, at a specific preset or in a very large, busy zoo.

The recommended tier gives you substantially more graphics headroom while leaving the listed memory requirement at 16GB. That makes the GPU the first comparison point when two otherwise similar PCs are being assessed. CPU generation, Windows version, SSD availability and free space are the next checks.
Planet Zoo 2 adds fully aquatic and flying species, aquariums and aviaries. Frontier describes these animals as using full three-dimensional navigation. That design helps explain why a stronger graphics card matters, although the published material does not quantify the performance effect of those systems or provide a zoo-size benchmark.
Frontier game director Gareth Hughes described a “living UI system with animals behaving differently depending on their current mood” in an Xbox Wire statement dated 28 May 2026. It illustrates the simulation’s dynamic scope, but it should not be treated as a measured hardware test.

Use the following checks in order. The graphics card is the quickest way to identify a clear mismatch, but every requirement must be satisfied.
- Identify the GPU. In Windows, open Settings > System > About for basic system information, then use Task Manager > Performance > GPU to see the installed graphics model. Compare it with the RTX 2060, RX 5600 XT or Arc A750 minimum class, or the RTX 3070, RX 6700 XT or Arc A770 recommended class.
- Check the processor. Confirm that the CPU is at least an Intel i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 for the minimum tier. The recommended target is an Intel i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X.
- Verify memory. Both official tiers specify 16GB of RAM. A system with less than 16GB does not meet the published requirement.
- Confirm Windows architecture and version. The minimum supports 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. The recommended tier specifies 64-bit Windows 11.
- Check DirectX. Press
Win+R, typedxdiag, and review the DirectX version shown by the diagnostic tool. The requirement is DirectX 12. - Measure free storage. Reserve at least 40GB of available space for the installation. Keep additional room for Windows, save files, updates and other applications rather than filling the drive to its limit.
- Confirm the drive type. Frontier recommends an SSD at minimum and requires one for the recommended tier. In Task Manager > Performance, select the drive to see whether Windows identifies it as an SSD or HDD.
If every item matches the recommended column, your PC is aligned with Frontier’s published target. If it matches only the minimum column, it is within the support floor but has less margin for demanding scenes.
GPU requirements: the most important comparison
Minimum graphics class
The minimum graphics choices are an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 with 6GB of video memory, an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT with 6GB, or an Intel Arc A750 with 8GB. A card below all three classes is outside the stated minimum specification, even if the rest of the PC is fast enough.

Recommended graphics class
For the recommended tier, Frontier names the GeForce RTX 3070 with 8GB, Radeon RX 6700 XT with 12GB or Intel Arc A770 with 16GB. These are the classes to target when buying or building a system specifically for stable play with more graphics headroom.

Do not compare cards by brand name alone. Check the exact model, installed video memory and the driver support for your operating system. Laptop versions can perform differently from desktop cards carrying similar names. Current replacement models and prices change frequently, so verify the precise specification before purchasing.
What if you have an integrated GPU?
The official table lists discrete graphics cards in every tier and does not establish support for integrated graphics. If your computer has only processor-based graphics, it does not match the published minimum GPU class.
CPU requirements and simulation load
The minimum processor choices are the Intel i7-8700K and AMD Ryzen 5 3600. Frontier’s recommended choices move up to the Intel i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. These are named CPU models, not simply generic “quad-core” or “six-core” requirements, so use the exact model number when checking a prebuilt or second-hand PC.
The processor is especially relevant in a simulation where the game must update animals, visitors, habitats and construction systems. However, Frontier has not published a CPU benchmark showing how a particular zoo population or visitor count affects frame rate. Treat the recommended CPU as the safer target for larger or more complex creations, not as a numerical guarantee.

A CPU upgrade may also require a new motherboard, memory configuration or cooler. Check platform compatibility before buying a processor; replacing the graphics card is often a simpler upgrade when the CPU already meets the recommended tier.

RAM, storage and Windows requirements
16GB RAM is the stated amount for both tiers
Planet Zoo 2 lists 16GB of system memory for both minimum and recommended configurations. That means a RAM upgrade is not indicated by the official table if your PC already has 16GB. More memory could help a broader multitasking setup, but the published requirements do not establish a higher in-game RAM target.
Why an SSD matters
The game needs 40GB of available storage. Frontier recommends an SSD for the minimum configuration and requires one for the recommended configuration. An SSD is therefore part of the recommended hardware target, not merely an optional convenience.
A 1TB NVMe SSD is a practical search description for an upgrade because it leaves room for the 40GB installation, operating-system files, updates and other games. Capacity alone does not prove that a drive is suitable: confirm that it is an SSD, that your motherboard supports its interface, and that the drive has adequate free space after installation.

The minimum operating-system requirement is 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11. The recommended tier specifies 64-bit Windows 11. A 32-bit Windows installation does not meet either tier. Both tiers require DirectX 12, so an older system that cannot provide the required API is not supported by this specification.
Choosing an upgrade path
If your GPU is below the minimum
Start with graphics. Look for an RTX 2060-, RX 5600 XT- or Arc A750-class card or better. Confirm the power-supply capacity, available case space, power connectors and monitor connection before ordering. A faster card cannot compensate for an operating system or CPU that remains below the minimum.
If you meet minimum but want the recommended target
Move toward an RTX 3070, RX 6700 XT or Arc A770-class GPU, then check whether your CPU is at least an i7-10700K or Ryzen 7 5800X. Add or relocate the installation to an SSD if necessary, and use 64-bit Windows 11. Because both tiers specify 16GB RAM, memory is not the first upgrade unless your system has less than that amount or has a separate stability fault.

If you have only a hard disk
Install the game on an SSD before replacing other components if your processor and graphics card already meet the recommended tier. Frontier explicitly requires SSD storage for that tier. After cloning or reinstalling Windows, verify that the game launcher is pointing to the SSD and that at least 40GB remains free.
If a laptop is close to the requirement
Compare the laptop’s exact CPU and GPU models rather than assuming a desktop-equivalent name. Also check cooling and power modes: a mobile system can reduce clock speeds when hot or running on battery. The official requirements do not provide separate laptop figures, so model-specific performance remains uncertain when the hardware is near the boundary.

Meeting the table does not rule out driver, installation or thermal problems. Frontier’s support checklist provides a sensible sequence:
- Verify the game files. Use the launcher’s installed-game properties to run its file-verification command. This replaces missing or damaged files without reinstalling the entire game.
- Update or clean-install the graphics driver. Install the current driver for your GPU. If ordinary updating does not help, use the driver’s clean-install option, then restart Windows.
- Install Windows updates. Reboot after updates so that pending system, DirectX and device changes are fully applied.
- Disable overlays. Temporarily turn off Steam, Xbox, Discord and GeForce overlays. Overlay hooks can interfere with rendering or produce crashes even when the underlying hardware is supported.
- Check temperatures. Watch CPU and GPU temperatures while the game is running. Clean blocked vents and fans, improve case airflow and confirm that the cooler is operating if temperatures rise unusually high.
- Check the PCIe slot. Make sure the graphics card is installed in the correct full-speed PCIe slot and is firmly seated. A card placed in a lower-bandwidth slot or not fully connected can cause poor performance or instability.
Test again after each change so you can identify which fix resolved the problem. If the issue persists, record the exact error, driver version, Windows build and whether it occurs in a new or existing zoo before contacting support.
What the official requirements do not tell you
Frontier’s table does not state a target frame rate, supported resolution, graphics preset, ray-tracing mode, benchmark result or maximum zoo population. It also does not quantify how much the aquatic and flying systems affect CPU or GPU load. Any claim that a particular card will deliver a fixed FPS at a particular resolution would go beyond the published evidence.

Use the tiers as purchasing boundaries: minimum hardware is the entry point for support, while recommended hardware provides the stronger baseline for stable play. Your actual result will still depend on resolution, settings, driver state, thermals, background applications and the complexity of the zoo you build.

Bottom line for common questions
Can I run Planet Zoo 2 with an RTX 2060?
An RTX 2060 with 6GB is explicitly listed as a minimum GPU. It places the graphics card within the published support floor, provided the CPU, 16GB RAM, 64-bit Windows, DirectX 12 and 40GB storage requirements are also met. It is not the recommended GPU tier.
Do I need an SSD?
Yes for the recommended configuration: Frontier lists an SSD as required. For the minimum configuration, an SSD is recommended. The installation needs 40GB of available space.
