Can your PC run Planet Zoo 2? Frontier’s published minimum is a Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB of RAM, and an RTX 2060, RX 5600XT, or Arc A750-class graphics card. The recommended tier raises the processor to a Core i7-10700K or Ryzen 7 5800X and the graphics card to an RTX 3070, RX 6700XT, or Arc A770. Both tiers require 40 GB of free space, recommend an SSD, and list DirectX 12.
These specifications were published on 25 September 2026, ahead of the announced 13 October 2026 PC release. Frontier says minimum requirements may change during development, and Windows 10 compatibility is not guaranteed because Microsoft has ended support for Windows 10. The meaningful differences in Frontier’s table are the CPU, GPU tier and preferred operating system; RAM, DirectX and the required free-space figure do not increase between tiers.

How to check whether your current PC qualifies
Do not judge a system by its brand, age or a single component. Record the exact model and then compare each item with the corresponding row above.
- Record Windows and DirectX. Open Settings → System → About to see your Windows edition and version. Press Win + R, enter
dxdiag, and check the System tab for the DirectX version. - Record the processor. In Settings → System → About, copy the full CPU name, including its model number. A generic label such as “Core i7” is not enough because different generations have very different capabilities.
- Record installed memory. In Settings → System → About, read the installed RAM value. Task Manager’s Performance → Memory page can confirm it and show how much is currently available.
- Record the graphics card and VRAM. Open Task Manager → Performance → GPU or
dxdiagand copy the exact GPU model and dedicated memory value. Integrated graphics should not be assumed to match a listed discrete card. - Check free space and drive type. In File Explorer → This PC, confirm at least 40 GB is free on the target drive. In Settings → System → Storage, identify whether that drive is an SSD; Frontier recommends one.
- Compare the complete set. Meeting the CPU but missing the minimum GPU, or having enough RAM but running an unsupported Windows configuration, does not make the whole PC a minimum-specification system.
If a model is not one of Frontier’s named examples, the published list does not establish that it is equivalent. Treat an unlisted part as a compatibility question rather than assuming that a similar product name guarantees the same result.
Do you need to upgrade the graphics card?
The GPU is the first component to investigate because Frontier specifies a clear six- to eight-gigabyte minimum tier and a substantially higher recommended tier. Your card should be compared by its exact model and its VRAM, not by the amount of VRAM alone.
Minimum GPU choices
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 with 6 GB VRAM
- AMD Radeon RX 5600XT with 6 GB VRAM
- Intel Arc A750 with 8 GB VRAM
These are the three alternatives named for the minimum configuration. The larger VRAM number on the Arc A750 does not, by itself, prove that it performs like either of the other cards; architecture, drivers and the exact workload also matter, and the requirements page does not provide equivalence testing.
Recommended GPU choices

- AMD Radeon RX 6700XT with 12 GB VRAM
- Intel Arc A770 with 16 GB VRAM
If your card is below the minimum examples, an upgrade is the most obvious hardware decision. If it falls between the minimum and recommended examples, the published requirements do not say what frame rate or image-quality level to expect. That middle position therefore needs to be treated as uncertain rather than labelled “recommended.”

Check the rest of the PC before buying a GPU
A graphics card can be electrically or physically incompatible even when its performance appears suitable. Before ordering, verify the card’s power requirements against the power-supply unit, confirm that it fits the case, check the motherboard’s available slot, and make sure the system has the required power connectors. On a laptop, the GPU generally cannot be replaced; compare the complete machine against the requirement instead.
Processor requirements and upgrade choices

Frontier names examples rather than a universal performance score. A processor with a newer-sounding name is not automatically interchangeable, and the requirements do not provide a supported-equivalence chart. Write down the exact CPU model and compare it with the named tier.

Desktop CPU upgrades can require a new motherboard, BIOS support, cooler or memory, depending on the existing platform. The published requirements do not establish compatibility for your socket, motherboard firmware, laptop chassis or cooling system, so check those details before purchasing a processor. If the CPU is below the minimum and the platform cannot accept a compatible replacement, replacing the whole system may be more practical than a piecemeal upgrade.
How much RAM does Planet Zoo 2 need?
Both minimum and recommended configurations list 16 GB of RAM. That is the complete published memory requirement; the available material does not establish that the game needs 32 GB or more.
If your PC has less than 16 GB
- Confirm the installed amount in Settings → System → About or Task Manager → Performance → Memory.
- Check the motherboard or laptop documentation for the supported memory generation, maximum capacity and slot arrangement.
- Match the existing module type and speed where the documentation requires it. The requirement page does not specify DDR generation, module count, speed or timings.
- After installation, verify that Windows recognizes the full capacity before installing the game.
Do not buy a random “16 GB kit” solely because its capacity matches the table. A module can be the wrong generation, physically incompatible or unsupported by the board. Someone who already has 16 GB has no published requirement-based reason to upgrade memory; investigate the GPU, CPU, operating system or storage instead.

Storage: 40 GB free, with an SSD recommended
Planet Zoo 2 lists 40 GB of available space at both tiers. This is free space required on the installation drive, not a statement that you must purchase a dedicated 40 GB drive. Leave room for the operating system, updates and other applications rather than filling a drive to its limit.

If the game would otherwise be installed on a hard disk, moving it to an SSD follows the published recommendation, but the source does not specify a particular SSD capacity or claim a specific loading-time improvement. A system that already has an SSD with at least 40 GB free does not need a storage upgrade merely to meet the listed requirement.
Windows 10, Windows 11 and DirectX 12
Windows 10 or Windows 11 appears in the minimum listing, while Windows 11 is the recommended operating system. Frontier also warns that ongoing Windows 10 compatibility cannot be guaranteed because Microsoft has ended support for Windows 10. Those statements belong together: Windows 10 is listed as a minimum option, but Windows 11 is the safer choice for a new installation or an upgrade decision.
Both tiers require DirectX 12. On a supported Windows installation, dxdiag reports the installed DirectX version. The requirement does not say that any particular feature level, driver version or graphics API setting will produce a specific frame rate.
A practical upgrade decision tree
Your GPU is below the minimum examples
Prioritize a graphics-card replacement, then check the power supply, case clearance, motherboard slot and connectors. Recheck the complete system after the change; a minimum-tier GPU does not make a below-minimum CPU or operating system compliant.

Your CPU is below the minimum examples
Identify whether the current motherboard can support a processor in the listed minimum class. Include BIOS, cooler and memory compatibility in the cost and effort. If the platform cannot be upgraded safely, compare the cost of a new system with the cost of separate parts.
Your PC has less than 16 GB of RAM
Upgrade only after checking the board or laptop documentation. Because 16 GB is listed for both tiers, additional capacity is not established as necessary by the published requirements.
Your drive has less than 40 GB free
Free space or install the game on another drive. If the available drive is a hard disk, an SSD is the recommended type; the requirements do not mandate a particular capacity beyond the 40 GB free-space figure.
You are still on Windows 10
Windows 10 appears in the minimum row, but Frontier does not guarantee ongoing compatibility. Moving to Windows 11 is the conservative choice, provided the PC meets Microsoft’s own upgrade requirements.
Every component meets the minimum row
You meet the published minimum target, but that target does not promise a frame rate, resolution or graphics preset. Wait for current support information and use the game’s own settings and troubleshooting guidance if performance problems occur.

What the requirements do not tell you
No reviewed official source supplies benchmark figures or tested performance percentages. You cannot infer 60 frames per second, a particular resolution, a quality preset or stable performance from the words “minimum” and “recommended.” The table describes hardware classes Frontier expects to support, not a laboratory result.
Frontier’s support guidance says lowering in-game graphics settings may help with performance issues. That is troubleshooting advice, not evidence that a particular GPU will achieve a defined result. If you encounter problems, update the operating system and graphics driver, confirm that the game is using the intended GPU, close unnecessary background applications, and try lower graphics settings. These steps do not replace meeting the published hardware requirements.
Release date, editions and what the game adds
Steam lists 13 October 2026 as the PC release date and identifies Standard and Deluxe editions. Xbox Wire reported suggested launch prices of £39.99/$49.99/€49.99 for Standard and £54.99/$64.99/€64.99 for Deluxe on 28 May 2026. Prices and availability vary by storefront, region and time, so verify the current listing before treating those figures as current.
The game is a zoo construction and management simulation that adds fully aquatic and flying species, aquariums, aviaries and Wildlife Reserves connected with global conservation projects. Steam describes Deluxe as the base game plus a Deluxe Upgrade Pack with six additional animal species and exclusive animal signs. Xbox Wire said preorders included a bonus pack containing the Toucan Eat Shop and Signage, three animal donation bins and a tiger photo stand-in wall; check the store page to confirm whether that offer still applies.
Game Director Gareth Hughes described the sequel this way: “Planet Zoo 2 features a living UI system with animals behaving differently depending on their current mood.” — Xbox Wire, 28 May 2026.
Before you buy parts: a final checklist
- Write down the exact CPU model and compare it with the listed minimum or recommended example.
- Write down the exact GPU model and dedicated VRAM; do not use VRAM capacity as a stand-alone performance substitute.
- Confirm at least 16 GB of installed RAM and verify memory compatibility before buying modules.
- Confirm at least 40 GB of free space on the installation drive.
- Prefer an SSD, as Frontier recommends one for both tiers.
- Use Windows 11 when possible; Windows 10 is listed at minimum but has no ongoing-compatibility guarantee.
- Confirm DirectX 12 support.
- For a GPU or CPU upgrade, check the PSU, case, motherboard, BIOS, cooling and connectors.
- Recheck Frontier’s live requirements page immediately before purchasing, because minimum specifications may change during development.
