Planet Zoo 2 buying guide: platforms, editions, PC requirements and DLC

Planet Zoo 2 launched on 13 October 2026 for Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Standard Edition is the least expensive way to play the base game; Deluxe adds six animals and exclusive signs through the Deluxe Upgrade Pack. New aquariums, flying birds and Wildlife Reserves are part of the sequel itself, not separate DLC. There is no official Nintendo Switch listing in the storefronts checked for this guide.

Planet Zoo 2 at a glance

Frontier’s sequel is a current-generation zoo-management game built around the same broad Career, Franchise and Sandbox framework as the original, while expanding the types of habitats you can build. Frontier’s release announcement lists a roster of more than 130 animals and confirms versions for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Question Answer
Release date 13 October 2026
Platforms Windows PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
Standard Edition Base game
Deluxe Edition Base game plus the Deluxe Upgrade Pack: six animal species and exclusive animal signs
New headline systems Fully aquatic animals, customizable freshwater and saltwater aquariums, fully flying birds in aviaries, and Wildlife Reserves
Modes Career, Franchise and Sandbox
Switch availability No Nintendo Switch version is listed by the official storefronts covered here; treat it as unavailable unless Frontier announces one

Standard and Deluxe editions: what you actually receive

The base game is identical in both launch editions. The decision is whether the additional animal and sign set is worth paying for at purchase time, not whether Deluxe unlocks the sequel’s major systems.

Edition Included content Suggested retail price at launch Who it suits
Standard Planet Zoo 2 base game £39.99 / $49.99 / €49.99 Players who want the complete core simulation and may decide on add-ons later
Deluxe Base game plus Deluxe Upgrade Pack with six animal species from across the globe and exclusive animal signs £54.99 / $64.99 / €64.99 Players who already want the extra species and signs, or who prefer one purchase at launch

Those are Frontier’s suggested retail prices, not a guarantee of the amount shown at checkout. Storefront discounts, taxes, currency conversion and regional pricing can change the final total. Check the store for your platform on the day you buy.

#1 Best Overall
Planet Zoo: America's Animal Pack Standard - PC Steam [Online Game Code]
  • Build a world for wildlife in Planet Zoo. From the developers of Planet Coaster and Zoo Tycoon comes the ultimate zoo sim.
  • Construct detailed habitats, manage your zoo, and meet authentic living animals who think, feel and explore the world you create around them.

What the Deluxe Upgrade Pack does not add

Deluxe does not represent a separate campaign, a different graphics mode or an exclusive platform version. Frontier’s description limits the pack to six additional animal species and exclusive animal signs. Aquariums, aviaries, Wildlife Reserves and the core modes are part of Planet Zoo 2 itself.

Buying Deluxe later

The Deluxe Upgrade Pack is also sold separately for $17.99 on the listed Steam, PlayStation and Xbox storefronts. In US pricing, buying Deluxe at launch costs $15 more than Standard, so the launch bundle is cheaper than purchasing Standard and then paying the standalone upgrade price. That arithmetic applies only to the stated US suggested prices; your region may show a different gap or discount.

Planet Zoo 2 DLC and add-ons

There are several optional products, and they serve different purposes. Only the Deluxe Upgrade Pack adds animals. The Bonus Content Pack is a separate small add-on, while the soundtrack is an audio purchase rather than gameplay content.

Product Content Listed price and availability Gameplay impact
Deluxe Upgrade Pack Six animal species from across the globe plus exclusive animal signs $17.99 separately on Steam, PlayStation Store and Xbox Store Adds animals and signs
Bonus Content Pack Additional bonus items; the storefront listings identify it as a separate add-on $2.99 on Steam, PlayStation Store and Xbox Store Bonus content; not the Deluxe species pack
You, Me & Sanctuary, The Music of Planet Zoo 2 Official soundtrack $9.99 on Steam Audio only; does not add animals, habitats or modes

Store descriptions do not establish that the soundtrack or Bonus Content Pack includes animals. Do not buy either one expecting the six Deluxe species. If you are undecided about extra content, the Standard Edition leaves the upgrade option open.

What is new in the sequel?

Aquariums for freshwater and saltwater habitats

Planet Zoo 2 adds fully aquatic animals and lets you construct customizable freshwater or saltwater aquariums. That is a structural expansion of habitat design rather than a cosmetic water feature: aquatic exhibits become part of the management and building choices available in the sequel.

Flying birds in customizable aviaries

Birds can fly fully rather than being limited to ground-based displays. Customizable aviaries give you a dedicated way to build around that movement and visibility. If your interest in the sequel is specifically aerial habitats, this feature is included in the base game on every listed platform.

Wildlife Reserves and release projects

Wildlife Reserves add conservation projects in which you work toward releasing animals into living ecosystems. This gives the sequel an objective beyond keeping animals inside a traditional visitor zoo. Frontier’s release material presents Reserves as one of the headline systems alongside aquariums and aviaries.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Returning modes and sharing

Career, Franchise and Sandbox return. Franchise supports trading animals with other players. Frontier Workshop lets players share and download blueprints and other creations across platforms, so a design made by one player can become a starting point for another even when they use different supported systems.

Platform comparison

Platform Hardware or service requirements Image and technical features listed by the store Online, cloud and input details
PC (Steam) Windows 10/11; minimum and recommended specifications below; 40 GB storage DirectX 12; SSD recommended at minimum and required for the recommended specification Single-player listing, Steam Cloud, achievements, trading cards, 17 supported languages and Denuvo Anti-tamper
PlayStation 5 PS5 console; PS5 Pro Enhanced listing PS5 version with a PS5 Pro Enhanced designation One-player listing; online play is optional; PS Portal cloud streaming requires a Premium subscription
Xbox Series X|S Xbox Series X or Series S 4K Ultra HD, HDR10 and ray tracing listed Xbox Play Anywhere, cloud play with Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate (game purchase required), and console keyboard-and-mouse support

The Xbox listing also covers PC through Xbox Play Anywhere. Cloud-play eligibility is tied to the stated Game Pass tiers, but a subscription does not replace purchasing the game. PlayStation’s online-play label is optional, so the store does not require an online subscription simply to use the one-player product.

Can your PC run Planet Zoo 2?

Steam lists two configurations. The minimum specification is a floor for launching and playing with the listed hardware; the recommended specification is the safer target for a new build or upgrade. Both require a 64-bit Windows installation capable of running DirectX 12.

Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10/11 Windows 11
Processor Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
Memory 16 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA RTX 2060 (6 GB), AMD RX 5600XT (6 GB) or Intel Arc A750 (8 GB) NVIDIA RTX 3070 (8 GB), AMD RX 6700XT (12 GB) or Intel Arc A770 (16 GB)
API DirectX 12 DirectX 12
Storage 40 GB; SSD recommended 40 GB; SSD required

How to check before purchasing

  1. In Windows, open Settings > System > About and note the processor and installed RAM.
  2. Open Settings > System > Storage and verify that at least 40 GB is available on the drive where Steam will install the game. Leave additional free space for updates.
  3. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, choose Performance, and select GPU to identify the graphics model. Compare the exact model and VRAM with the table, not just the series name.
  4. Check dxdiag from the Windows search box and confirm that the system reports DirectX 12 support.
  5. If your machine is near the minimum, install to an SSD and close background applications before judging performance. The listed minimum does not promise the same frame rate or simulation scale as the recommended specification.

Steam notes that Microsoft has ended Windows 10 support and that ongoing compatibility is not guaranteed. Windows 10 is listed as supported for the game, but a long-term PC purchase is safer on Windows 11 where the hardware allows it.

What the specification means in practice

  • Processor: Zoo simulations can become CPU-heavy as animal, visitor and habitat activity grows. A processor at the recommended level gives more headroom than merely meeting the graphics requirement.
  • Graphics card: Match the named GPU class and VRAM. An older card with a similar model number can still fall short if it has less memory or lacks the required DirectX 12 support.
  • Memory: Both tiers list 16 GB, so upgrading beyond that is not a stated requirement. Extra RAM may help a heavily multitasked Windows system, but it is not part of Steam’s recommended specification.
  • Storage: The 40 GB figure is the listed installation requirement. An SSD is only recommended at minimum and required for the recommended configuration.

How to buy on each platform

Steam on Windows

  1. Open the Steam client or Steam website and search for Planet Zoo 2.
  2. Choose Standard or Deluxe, then check the processor, graphics and storage requirements against your PC.
  3. Review the separate Deluxe Upgrade Pack, Bonus Content Pack and soundtrack only if their specific content matches what you want.
  4. Complete checkout, install to an SSD when possible, and allow Steam Cloud to synchronize saves after the first launch.

The Steam listing includes single-player, achievements, trading cards, Steam Cloud, 17 supported languages and Denuvo Anti-tamper. Those are platform features, not extra game editions.

PlayStation 5

  1. Open PlayStation Store on the console or on the web and search for the title.
  2. Select Standard or Deluxe and verify that the product page identifies the PS5 version.
  3. Check the Deluxe Upgrade Pack and Bonus Content Pack as separate products if you did not buy Deluxe.
  4. Install the game on the console. If you plan to use PS Portal cloud streaming, confirm that your account has the required Premium subscription.

The store lists PS5 Pro Enhanced, one-player play and optional online play. A PS5 purchase should therefore be chosen for the console ecosystem and display features rather than for a separate campaign unavailable elsewhere.

Xbox Series X|S

  1. Open the Microsoft Store on Xbox or Windows and search for Planet Zoo 2.
  2. Confirm whether you are buying Standard or Deluxe, then review the Deluxe Upgrade Pack and Bonus Content Pack listings separately.
  3. Use the Xbox Play Anywhere listing if you want the supported Xbox-and-PC purchase path.
  4. For cloud play, verify that your account has Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate and remember that the game purchase is still required.

The Xbox listing identifies 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, ray tracing and console keyboard-and-mouse support. Actual output depends on your television, console model, display settings and the game’s selected mode.

Which edition should you choose?

Choose Standard when

  • You mainly want the new aquarium, aviary and Wildlife Reserve systems.
  • You are unsure whether the six Deluxe animals and exclusive signs matter to your zoo designs.
  • You expect to wait for a sale or decide on the standalone upgrade later.
  • You are buying for a family member or a new player who has not played the first game.

Choose Deluxe when

  • You know you want the six additional species and animal signs from the start.
  • You prefer one transaction rather than buying Standard and an upgrade later.
  • The Deluxe launch price is discounted enough in your region to make the bundle’s value clear.

Deluxe is an optional content decision, not a performance tier. Your platform, hardware and display determine technical behavior; the edition determines the included animal and sign content.

Common buying mistakes and fixes

Confusing the Deluxe pack with the Bonus Content Pack

They are separate products. The Deluxe Upgrade Pack is the one explicitly described as adding six animals and exclusive signs. The Bonus Content Pack has a different listing and price. Read the product description before confirming payment.

Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection PC DVD

  • It's Your Zoo - design and manage your ideal zoo from piece-by-piece road construction to the ability to adjust the enclosures and decorate them

Assuming a subscription includes the Xbox game

Xbox cloud-play support is listed for Game Pass Essential, Premium and Ultimate, but the store states that the game purchase is required. A qualifying subscription enables the cloud service; it is not a free license for Planet Zoo 2.

Buying for a system that is not listed

No Nintendo Switch version appears in the official PC, PlayStation and Xbox storefront information used for this guide. Do not purchase a code advertised for Switch unless Frontier publishes an announcement and an official store listing.

Underestimating the PC requirement

A computer can meet the 40 GB storage figure and still fail the graphics or processor requirement. Check the exact CPU and GPU models, VRAM and DirectX 12 support before purchasing. If your system is close to minimum, use an SSD and close other applications; if it falls below the listed GPU or CPU, a console version may be the more predictable choice.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Expecting Deluxe to unlock the sequel’s headline systems

Aquariums, flying birds and Wildlife Reserves are not Deluxe-only features. Standard includes the base game in which those systems are introduced. Deluxe adds the specified species and signs.

Bottom-line buying advice

Buy Standard on the platform you already use if you want the complete Planet Zoo 2 simulation without committing to extra animals. Buy Deluxe at launch if the six species and exclusive signs are certain priorities, because the bundle is cheaper than the stated US prices for Standard plus a later upgrade. Choose PC only when your system meets Steam’s processor, GPU, DirectX 12 and SSD guidance; choose PS5 or Xbox Series X|S for a console-first setup, with Xbox offering Play Anywhere, listed HDR10 and ray tracing, and PS5 offering a PS5 Pro Enhanced version. Treat Switch support as unavailable until Frontier provides an official listing.
