There is no universal winner. As of October 18, 2026, Google Store advertises up to $460 back when you trade in for an unlocked Pixel 11 and up to $650 for an unlocked Pixel 11 Pro or Pro XL. AT&T advertises Pixel 11 Pro for $0 with an old Google Pixel trade-in, Pixel 11 Pro XL for $0 with an eligible trade-in, and Pixel 11 for $10.99 per month without a trade-in. The cheaper path is whichever produces the lower comparable cost after the required wireless plan, taxes, fees, financing period, trade-in inspection and any cost of changing carriers.
What the current offers actually promise
The headline amounts are ceilings or promotional device prices, not guaranteed savings for every buyer. Google’s offer applies a trade-in credit to an unlocked purchase (or to a Verizon Pixel 11 purchase) and ends October 29, 2026. AT&T’s figures are carrier promotions announced August 12, 2026; general availability begins August 20, 2026.

| Purchase path | Published device offer | Condition attached to the headline | Promotion timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Store, unlocked Pixel 11 | Up to $460 trade-in credit | Credit depends on the old device’s model, storage and inspected condition. The maximum is illustrated by representative devices such as Pixel 10 and iPhone 17 Pro Max. | 2026 promotion ending October 29, 2026 |
| Google Store, unlocked Pixel 11 Pro or Pro XL | Up to $650 trade-in credit | Credit depends on the submitted device and inspection; $650 is a ceiling, not an average value. | 2026 promotion ending October 29, 2026 |
| AT&T Pixel 11 Pro | $0 device price with any old Google Pixel trade-in | AT&T’s announcement says any year and any condition. You still have to satisfy the associated carrier-promotion and plan terms. | Announced August 12, 2026; general availability August 20, 2026 |
| AT&T Pixel 11 Pro XL | $0 device price with an eligible trade-in | The announcement does not define every eligibility detail in the headline. Confirm the exact model, condition, plan and credit schedule at checkout. | Announced August 12, 2026; general availability August 20, 2026 |
| AT&T Pixel 11 | $10.99 per month with no trade-in required | The monthly device amount is tied to AT&T service and its installment terms; taxes and fees are separate. | Announced August 12, 2026; general availability August 20, 2026 |
None of these figures establishes an average Pixel 11 trade-in value or a universal percentage saved. Your old phone’s model, storage tier, condition, the target model and the offer active on the day you order determine the actual result.

Compare both purchases over the same holding period. Twenty-four months is a useful default if a carrier uses a two-year installment, but use your real expected ownership period when it differs. A buyer who normally keeps a phone for three years should not compare a 36-month service commitment with only the first 24 months of an unlocked purchase.

For an unlocked order, calculate:
Unlocked total = phone price + tax and fees − confirmed trade-in credit − unlocked discounts
For a carrier order, calculate:
Carrier total = required device payments + taxes and fees + incremental wireless-plan cost + switching or termination costs − carrier credits − trade-in value
Count the plan as an incremental cost only when you would not otherwise pay for that service. If you already need the same AT&T plan and would keep it regardless of the phone, its full price is not an additional phone cost; include only any difference between the plan you would have and the plan the promotion requires. If you would use a cheaper existing plan, the price gap is part of the Pixel’s cost.

An instant checkout discount reduces the amount charged today. A later refund improves your cash position only after processing. Monthly carrier bill credits reduce future bills and can stop if you cancel service or pay off the device early under the promotion’s rules. A phone advertised as free can therefore require more cash or a longer commitment than an unlocked phone with a smaller, immediate discount.
How the Google Store trade-in path works
Google’s process is straightforward, but the estimate is not the final credit. Complete these steps in order:
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
- Start checkout with the new Pixel. Add the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro or Pixel 11 Pro XL to your Google Store order.
- Select the old device during checkout. Trade-in can be added only while checking out; it cannot be attached later to an already completed order.
- Describe the phone accurately. Choose the exact model and storage option and answer the condition questions. The initial estimate is based on your description and can include special-deal money.
- Save the quote and terms. Take screenshots showing the quoted amount, the target model, the promotion end date and the stated condition answers. This gives you a record if the final amount changes.
- Receive the prepaid shipping label. Back up the old phone, remove accounts and locks, erase personal data and package it using the supplied instructions. Mail it by the deadline shown in your order.
- Wait for inspection. Google says standard processing generally takes three to four weeks from shipment. Selected customers may instead receive an instant credit at checkout.
- Review the final result. After inspecting the old device, Google says it will email the trade-in value within five business days and apply it toward your original payment. If the model or condition differs from your description, the final value can change.
The estimate is generally valid for 30 days after the new device is received. The trade-in transaction expires 180 days after the new device ships. Those windows matter if you are waiting for a replacement, traveling or selling the old phone later.
Why an unlocked Pixel can be the better deal
You already have an inexpensive wireless plan
If your current service is cheap and reliable, moving to a carrier promotion can add a larger monthly obligation than the device discount saves. Put the difference between the required plan and your existing plan into the carrier formula for every month you would keep the phone.
You want the freedom to change carriers
An unlocked purchase keeps your service choice separate from the phone. You can change providers, use a local SIM or eSIM while traveling, or move to a cheaper plan without risking future promotional credits. A carrier-financed phone may be subject to an unpaid device balance, credit forfeiture or other promotion terms if you leave early.
Your inspected trade-in is close to Google’s ceiling
For the standard Pixel 11, the current Google Store ceiling is up to $460. For the Pro and Pro XL, it is up to $650. A high-value, well-maintained phone can make the unlocked net price competitive even when a carrier advertises a $0 device. Do not assume you will receive the ceiling: the amount is conditional on the exact device and inspection.
You value a lower-risk exit
With an unlocked order, the trade-in credit is tied to the device transaction rather than to months of future wireless bills. You still need to meet Google’s shipping and inspection requirements, but changing your service later does not create a carrier-credit decision.
Rank #3
When the AT&T promotion can cost less
You already need the required AT&T service
AT&T’s $0 Pixel 11 Pro offer can be compelling for someone who would keep the qualifying service for the entire promotion period anyway. In that case, the incremental phone cost may be limited to taxes, fees and any trade-in-related difference, rather than the full price of a new plan.
Your old phone is a low-value trade-in elsewhere
The Pro announcement states that any old Google Pixel—any year, any condition—can qualify for the $0 Pixel 11 Pro headline. If your damaged or very old Pixel would receive little value from an unlocked trade-in, the carrier offer may produce a better device result, provided you accept its plan and credit requirements.
You can keep the account through the entire credit period
Carrier promotions commonly distribute savings as bill credits. Before ordering, identify the number of months required, the device-payment schedule and what happens if you cancel service, change plans or pay the balance early. The $0 label is meaningful only if you can satisfy those obligations for as long as the credits are scheduled.
You are comparing the same model tier
Compare Pixel 11 with Pixel 11, or Pixel 11 Pro with Pixel 11 Pro. A $0 Pro offer is not a direct savings comparison with an unlocked standard Pixel 11. If you want the Pro XL, use the Pro XL’s unlocked price and up-to-$650 ceiling against the carrier’s Pro XL terms.
How to estimate what your old phone is really worth
Start with the exact device, not its original retail price. The relevant details are:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Rank #4
- Model and generation: Pixel generations and iPhone models can receive different estimates.
- Storage: Different storage capacities can produce different quotes.
- Condition: Screen damage, body damage, non-working cameras, battery problems, water exposure and missing parts can change the inspection result.
- Ownership and eligibility: A carrier’s definition of an eligible trade-in may differ from Google’s device list.
- Promotion: A special-deal amount can be included in the initial estimate and may disappear if the promotion ends before submission.
There is no published statistic establishing an average Pixel 11 trade-in value. Treat the online estimate as conditional until the inspection is complete. Photograph the phone’s condition, keep the shipping receipt and retain the quote. If the final amount is lower, compare the inspection explanation with the condition answers you submitted before deciding whether to accept the revised value or follow the return process shown in your order terms.
A practical break-even test
Write down the numbers for both paths before you click Buy. Let U be the unlocked phone price, G the confirmed Google trade-in credit, D any unlocked discount, Tu unlocked taxes and fees, C the carrier’s total device payments, Tc carrier taxes and fees, P the monthly plan cost that is genuinely incremental, S switching or termination costs, and B carrier credits or trade-in value.
Then calculate:
Unlocked net = U + Tu − G − DCarrier net = C + Tc + (P × months) + S − B
The carrier route wins only when its net is lower over the same number of months. If the carrier quote shows a $0 device but requires a plan that costs $25 more per month than your current service for 36 months, the plan difference alone is $900 before taxes and fees. That is why the plan comparison can outweigh the device headline. Use your actual monthly difference and term rather than a generic example when making the decision.

Instant versus delayed credit
A selected Google customer may receive an instant checkout credit, while standard trade-ins are processed after shipment and inspection. Google says it emails the value within five business days after inspection and applies it to the original payment. A delayed credit can require you to fund the full purchase temporarily.

Monthly bill credits
Carrier savings may appear as recurring bill credits rather than a lower device charge on day one. List the first bill date, the number of credit months and the remaining device balance if you leave. If the promotion stops after cancellation or early payoff, include the lost credits in the carrier total.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
Taxes, activation and upgrade fees
Taxes may be calculated on the phone’s full retail price even when the advertised device payment is $0. Add activation, upgrade, shipping and other one-time fees shown at checkout. Do not treat a waived fee as a permanent feature unless the written promotion states it.
Returns and inspection outcomes
Check the return window for the new phone and the procedure for a changed trade-in value. Returning the Pixel does not necessarily reverse every carrier action or restore a promotion automatically. Keep the order confirmation and all trade-in correspondence until both the device transaction and the wireless account are settled.
Decision rules for common buyer situations
| Your situation | First path to price | Reason to switch to the other path |
|---|---|---|
| You already have a low-cost plan and want carrier freedom | Price the unlocked Pixel first using the inspected-value risk. | Choose a carrier only if the incremental plan cost over your holding period remains lower. |
| You already pay for the qualifying AT&T plan and will keep it | Price the $0 Pro or eligible Pro XL promotion first. | Choose unlocked if the promotion’s term, credit risk or taxes make the net higher. |
| You own an old, damaged Google Pixel | Check the AT&T Pro offer because its announcement says any year and any condition. | Use Google if its confirmed credit and flexibility produce a lower total. |
| You want the standard Pixel 11 rather than a Pro | Compare Google’s up-to-$460 ceiling with AT&T’s $10.99-per-month offer. | Use AT&T only after adding the plan and installment costs to the same holding period. |
| You may change providers soon | Favor unlocked unless the carrier’s written terms show a safe exit. | A carrier deal can still work if you can pay any remaining balance without losing more value than the unlocked alternative. |
Checklist before placing either order
- Write down the exact target model and storage tier.
- Run the old phone through Google’s trade-in estimator and the carrier’s eligibility checker separately.
- Save screenshots of every quoted amount, condition answer and promotion end date.
- Calculate the unlocked net using the final confirmed credit, not the largest advertised ceiling.
- Calculate the carrier net over the same 24-month period or your actual expected holding period.
- Subtract only a plan cost you would genuinely avoid by not choosing the carrier route.
- Add taxes, activation or upgrade fees, shipping, and any switching or termination cost.
- Record whether each benefit is instant, a later refund or a monthly bill credit.
- Read the consequences of cancellation, plan changes, early payoff and a rejected or downgraded trade-in.
- For Google, ship within the stated window, keep the tracking receipt and watch for the inspection email.
- For a carrier, verify the first bill and confirm that the promised credit appears on schedule.
Bottom line: choose the lower obligation, not the louder headline
Google’s current unlocked ceilings are up to $460 for Pixel 11 and up to $650 for Pixel 11 Pro or Pro XL, subject to the submitted device and inspection. AT&T’s $0 Pro, $0 Pro XL and $10.99-per-month Pixel 11 offers can beat that net price when you already need the required service and can keep it for the full promotion period. They can also cost more once an expensive plan, taxes, fees, financing and lost credits are counted.

Make the decision with one written total for each route, using the same phone, condition, storage, time period and cash-flow assumptions. If the totals are close, unlocked usually buys more flexibility; if the carrier plan is already part of your budget and its credit schedule fits your plans, the carrier promotion may save more.
