Google’s foldable has a 5x telephoto, IP68 rating, and built-in Qi2 magnetic charging. The better buy depends on which of those trade-offs matters more to you.
Price: Pixel is $301 cheaper at the reported US starting prices
Google lists the Pixel 10 Pro Fold from $1,799, and Android Central’s October 2026 comparison reports the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra from $2,100 in the US. That is a $301 difference using those cited starting prices, not a guaranteed checkout-price gap: retailer offers can change it. Check current offers before buying. Google’s specifications and listed price and Android Central’s comparison are the sources for those figures.

Google’s figures come from its Pixel 10 Pro Fold specifications. Samsung’s processor and display-ratio details appear in its US Fold8 announcement; its Ultra battery, charging, weight, and availability details come from a UK launch announcement. The Samsung weight and thickness are not a claim that every region or configuration will be identical.
Displays: choose the cover-screen shape you prefer
Both phones have an 8-inch inner display in the cited specifications, so the diagonal alone does little to distinguish them. The Fold8 Ultra’s 4:3 inner ratio is a useful clue to its shape; Samsung describes its cover screen as 10:16, while Android Central lists it at 6.5 inches. Google lists a 6.4-inch Pixel cover screen. Try the cover display in person if possible: its width and proportions affect typing, reaching across the screen, and using the phone one-handed more than a small diagonal difference suggests.
#1 Best Overall
- Unfold extraordinary with Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold; with Pixel’s largest screen and Gemini, Google’s most advanced AI, it’s made for multitasking and entertainment[1]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[14]
- The gearless, high-strength hinge makes it durable enough to handle about 10 years of folding[3]; plus, Pixel 10 Pro Fold is built with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance[4]
- The brighter-than-ever 8-inch Super Actua Flex display is Pixel’s largest screen yet[12]; and you can use Split Screen to plan a trip, drag and drop images, and open multiple apps at once[5]
Cameras: compare focal lengths, not megapixels alone
Google lists a 48 MP wide camera, a 10.5 MP ultrawide, and a 10.8 MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom. Samsung’s launch material highlights a 200 MP main camera and 50 MP ultrawide; Android Central lists a 10 MP telephoto with 3x zoom. Those specifications suggest different camera hardware, especially for zoom framing, but they do not establish which phone takes better photos. Megapixel counts are not a substitute for image samples across daylight, low light, moving subjects, and zoom levels.
Portability and protection: Samsung is lighter; Google lists the higher IP rating
In the comparison figures, the Samsung weighs 215 g and measures 8.9 mm folded; the Pixel weighs 258 g and is 10.8 mm folded. That difference may matter if you carry a phone in a pocket or use it closed for much of the day.

Google advertises IP68 for the Pixel; Android Central lists IP48 for the Samsung. These ratings describe tested resistance under defined conditions, not immunity to damage. They do not make either phone waterproof or guarantee protection after impact, wear, or exposure beyond the rating’s limits. Google called the Pixel its “most durable foldable yet” in its August 20, 2025 announcement; that is Google’s product positioning, not an independent durability ranking. Google’s announcement also describes its gearless hinge.

Charging and battery: capacity is not runtime
The stated battery capacities are close: Google gives the Pixel a typical 5,015 mAh battery, and Samsung’s UK launch material specifies 5,000 mAh for the Ultra. Similar capacity figures cannot predict actual battery life; display use, network conditions, software, and workload all matter.

Google supports built-in Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W and specifies a 30W USB-C PPS charger or higher for its stated fast charging. Samsung advertises 45W wired charging. These are not results from a controlled charging-time comparison, so they do not show how long either phone takes to charge under matching conditions. If choosing the Pixel for magnetic charging, check that the charger, stand, case, and other accessories are explicitly compatible with its Qi2 setup.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which foldable should you buy?
Choose the Pixel 10 Pro Fold if
- You want the lower of the cited US starting prices.
- A 5x telephoto, built-in Qi2 magnetic charging, or Google’s stated IP68 rating better matches your priorities.
- You are comfortable with the Pixel’s greater listed weight and folded thickness.
Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if
- You value the lighter, thinner design in the listed comparison figures.
- You prefer Samsung’s 4:3 inner-screen and 10:16 cover-screen proportions.
- You want its listed 200 MP main camera hardware or advertised 45W wired charging enough to consider the higher reported starting price.
No controlled benchmark or side-by-side photo test in the cited sources establishes a universal winner for performance, camera quality, or battery life. For those priorities, compare independent tests and sample images that match how you use a phone, rather than treating the listed processor, megapixel, or battery numbers as a verdict.
