Which games were played the next day?
On Friday, Allderdice played Brashear first, followed by Perry against Carrick at Cupples Stadium. Pittsburgh Public Schools proceeded with both games while limiting attendance and increasing security, rather than canceling them. WPXI’s account of Friday’s games described the attendance changes and reactions from parents.
Who could attend, and what rules were in place?
| Game or measure | Reported restriction |
|---|---|
| Allderdice–Brashear | Attendance was limited to parents and adults connected to the schools. |
| Perry–Carrick | Younger family members of Perry seniors were allowed to attend for senior night. |
| Outside the stadium | Loitering was prohibited. |
| Inside Cupples Stadium | Spectators were required to remain in the stands; most spectators under 18 were barred, subject to the reported Perry senior-family exception. |
The restrictions are described in CBS Pittsburgh’s October 2 coverage. The reports do not specify security staffing numbers or equipment, so they do not establish whether measures such as metal detectors, searches or weapons screening were used.

How did families react?
Parents expressed support for the tighter rules while also describing the impact on families and school celebrations. Nicole Jones, identified by WPXI as a parent of a Brashear player, said, “Everything was fine. You know, it’s sad,” and added, “Keep it like this. I’m good like this. I prefer safety first.”
Shekwae Nicholson, a parent of Perry students, told WPXI, “The restrictions are suitable. We have to know the districts are going to protect our children.” CBS Pittsburgh also reported Nicholson’s view that the restrictions dampened the senior-night celebration and school spirit for families.
