Where and when did the shooting happen?
The gunfire occurred outside Cupples Stadium, near the 900 block of East Carson Street, after the Westinghouse–University Prep City League game had concluded. Allegheny County dispatchers reportedly received a call at 9:48 p.m. on Thursday, October 1. WPXI’s report attributed the call time and location to dispatchers.
Reports described an altercation and fights outside the stadium as people were leaving. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, citing Pittsburgh Public Safety, reported that officers were trying to break up a fight when shots were fired. Police Chief Jason Lando called the scene “chaotic,” and said officers were nearby handling another matter. Those accounts describe reported details, not a definitive reconstruction of the sequence. The Post-Gazette report attributes the account to Pittsburgh Public Safety and coverage by KDKA.

What safety measures did Pittsburgh Public Schools put in place?
The district said schools would operate in secure mode on Friday, October 2, and canceled afternoon and after-school activities, with exceptions for some football games. For games, attendance was limited to adults, with school-linked exceptions; spectators were told not to loiter and to remain in the stands rather than gather in walkways or corridors. The district also added police and security. Superintendent Wayne Walters said the measures were intended to protect students, families and staff. WPXI reported the district’s response.
