Pimax announced three products at its October 6, 2026 Pimax Frontier event: the Crystal Pro wireless PC VR headset, Ringless VR Controllers, and Spation mini-PC. Pimax positions Crystal Pro against Valve’s Steam Frame and Spation against Steam Machine, but the comparisons are not one-to-one: Steam Frame supports standalone games as well as PC streaming, while Spation is a compact desktop-class gaming PC. Crystal Pro is listed from $1,399, but Pimax had not announced shipping dates for the headset or its optional wireless kit.
What Pimax announced
The announcement covers a VR headset, its controllers, and a small-form-factor gaming PC. Product details, pricing, and availability differ across the three.

- Crystal Pro: a wireless PC VR headset with built-in Wi-Fi streaming and a dedicated Wi-Fi 6E adapter. Pimax also offers an optional third-generation 60G AirLink kit.
- Ringless VR Controllers: controllers that combine headset-camera hand tracking with infrared LEDs and motion sensors. Pimax says they support 6DOF PC VR use and can clip together as a wireless gamepad for Windows and Steam.
- Spation: a mini-PC described by Pimax as using desktop-class components. Its standard configuration is listed with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or equivalent processor, Radeon RX 9070 XT or RTX 5070 Ti graphics, 32GB DDR5-6000 memory, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Pimax says it supports Windows and SteamOS, with its Pimax Play client coming to Linux.
How Crystal Pro compares with Valve’s Steam Frame
Both headsets are being discussed in the context of wireless PC VR, but their intended modes differ. Valve describes Steam Frame as a full PC running SteamOS: it can stream a Steam library from a PC, laptop, Steam Deck, or Steam Machine, and it also supports standalone verified games. Valve calls high-quality PC streaming its primary design goal.
Crystal Pro is presented as a PC VR headset. It has Wi-Fi streaming, while its optional 60G AirLink kit is a separate, higher-spec wireless configuration. The October announcement does not establish that Crystal Pro offers the same standalone game capability as Steam Frame.

The table reflects the details in the launch materials, not a complete specification comparison. Pimax’s own September comparison between its Dream Air products and Steam Frame recommends weighing game compatibility, tracking setup, PC and network conditions, included equipment, and total system cost; that is Pimax’s perspective, not an independent evaluation. For Crystal Pro, those factors also include which wireless configuration is being considered.
What the 60G AirLink is—and what its performance claims mean
Pimax says the optional third-generation 60G AirLink uses eye tracking and a 60GHz 2×2 MIMO connection to send the GPU’s native image to the headset display without video encoding. The company claims throughput of up to 6 Gbps and under 2 milliseconds of added latency. Those are manufacturer claims; the October 6 announcement does not provide independent test results.

- SCREEN TECHNOLOGY: QLED display, supporting local dimming and HDR, achieving high contrast and vivid colors
- LENS: Glass aspheric lens, providing edge-to-edge clarity and reducing distortion
- ULTRA-LOW LATENCY: Up to 120Hz, Experience minimal lag with high refresh rates, providing a fluid and responsive VR environment for immersive simulations
- COMPATIBILITY: Seamlessly integrate with your existing SteamVR setup, including compatibility with controllers like the Valve Index Knuckles or HTC VIVE
Pimax also says the 60GHz signal does not pass through walls. That makes room layout a practical consideration for this kit: its high-speed wireless link is not a substitute for a signal that can cross walls. Crystal Pro also has built-in Wi-Fi streaming, so the headset’s general wireless feature and the optional 60G AirLink should not be treated as the same configuration.

How Spation relates to Steam Machine
Spation is the closest of the three announcements to a direct PC-versus-PC comparison: Pimax describes it as a mini-PC with desktop-class components, while the title’s Steam Machine comparison refers to a different compact gaming PC. That positioning does not establish equal performance, size, price, software experience, or value.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe listed Spation components provide a starting point for evaluating its configuration, but Pimax had not announced its price or shipping date. The company says Spation supports Windows and SteamOS, and that Pimax Play is coming to Linux. Without a final price, availability, and independent testing, there is no sound basis to claim that it beats Steam Machine on performance or cost.

What to compare before choosing
Headline prices and product labels leave out important parts of the decision. For VR, compare what games you can play and whether they run on the headset or stream from a PC; for a PC, compare the final configuration and software support.
Quick Recap
- Game mode: establish whether you need a PC for every VR session or want standalone verified games, as Steam Frame supports both PC streaming and standalone play.
- Connection: compare wired DisplayPort, standard Wi-Fi streaming, and the optional 60G AirLink separately. Consider whether the 60GHz kit’s line-of-sight limitation suits your room.
- Full system cost: account for the headset or PC, required host hardware, accessories, tracking setup, and any optional wireless kit rather than comparing one headline price.
- Availability: check current shipping information. Pimax had not published shipping dates for the Crystal Pro and AirLink when it announced them on October 6, 2026.
- Evidence of performance: treat Pimax’s throughput and latency figures as company claims, not as an independent comparison against Valve hardware.
