What features does it offer for everyday ironing?
Steam, spray and hanging garments
The iron has continuous steam, a steam boost, spray, and vertical steam. Philips says the vertical function can refresh garments on a hanger and remove creases from hanging curtains. That describes the intended feature; it does not establish how well the iron performs on particular fabrics or how quickly it removes creases.

Water and filling
The tank holds 320 ml and has an extra-large filling hole. Philips says the iron operates with ordinary tap water. Local water hardness can vary, so follow the manual’s care guidance for your area.

Soleplate and controls
Philips identifies the soleplate as SteamGlide and describes it as scratch-resistant, non-stick and easy to clean. Those are Philips’ claims, not independently verified durability or glide comparisons. The feature set also includes a drip stop to help prevent water marks from dripping during ironing.
How does the automatic shut-off work?
Philips specifies two inactivity periods: the iron switches off after eight minutes when motionless on its heel, or after 30 seconds when left motionless flat. These are manufacturer-stated timings. Check the manual for operating details and safety guidance.

How are descaling and routine care handled?
The GC2997/40 has a built-in Calc Clean slider. Philips lists tap-water suitability, but does not mean that maintenance can be skipped: use the model’s manual and official support guidance for descaling and cleaning rather than applying an improvised method. The Philips Australia support page covers topics including water choice, descaling, soleplate cleaning, leakage and failure to heat.
Is the Philips PowerLife GC2997/40 a good steam iron?
Its published specifications describe a conventional corded steam iron with a comparatively prominent listed boost, vertical steam, drip stop and a built-in descaling feature. Those specifications may help determine whether its feature set suits your needs, but they do not establish ironing speed, comfort in use, long-term reliability or superiority to another model.
