Steam currently shows two PC profiles: a minimum configuration targeting 1080p at 30 frames per second with upscaling enabled, and a recommended configuration targeting 1440p at 60 frames per second with upscaling enabled. Those are storefront targets, not promises of native-resolution performance or a fixed frame rate in every scene. What the minimum requirement actually means
The minimum profile is the practical entry point for playing at the store page’s lower target. It pairs a Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600 class processor with a GTX 1660 6GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB class graphics card. The listed outcome is 1080p at 30 FPS when upscaling is enabled.
That target should be read as a baseline use case, not as a claim that every scene will hold 30 FPS or that the game will render internally at native 1920×1080. Upscaling reconstructs the displayed image from a lower internal resolution, so image quality and frame-rate behavior depend on the final implementation, preset and scene. Steam does not identify which upscaling technology Phantom Blade Zero uses.
A computer that matches the graphics card but falls short on the processor, operating system, DirectX support or memory requirement is not a confirmed match. The store lists a profile, not a GPU-only test. Check every row before deciding that a machine qualifies.
Who should choose the minimum profile?
- Players who use a 1080p monitor and are comfortable with a 30-FPS target.
- Owners of systems close to the named CPU and GPU examples in all other requirements.
- Upgraders who want to avoid replacing a working platform before seeing launch-day performance data.
The minimum tier is not the right reference for a 1440p 60-FPS goal. That higher target belongs to the recommended profile.
What the recommended requirement is designed for
Steam’s recommended profile names an Intel Core i5-10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB graphics card. Its stated target is 1440p at 60 FPS with upscaling enabled.
This is the relevant starting point for someone asking, “What PC do I need for 1440p 60 FPS?” It does not mean the RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT is required for every way of playing, nor does it establish that either card will sustain 60 FPS in every cutscene, combat encounter or future patch. The target is the publisher’s storefront guidance under conditions that are not fully specified.
Both recommended GPU examples provide more graphics memory than the minimum NVIDIA example, while the AMD alternative lists 12GB. VRAM capacity alone does not determine performance: architecture, driver behavior, CPU throughput, settings and the game’s streaming workload also matter. Use the complete profile rather than treating VRAM as a pass/fail number.

NVIDIA and AMD alternatives
The listing gives one NVIDIA and one AMD example in each tier. That makes the comparison straightforward:
| Use case | NVIDIA example | AMD example |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum, 1080p/30 with upscaling | GeForce GTX 1660 6GB | Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB |
| Recommended, 1440p/60 with upscaling | GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8GB | Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB |
These pairs are examples from Steam, not an equivalence chart for every generation. A different card should be judged against its overall performance and feature support, not by brand name or memory capacity alone.
Does Phantom Blade Zero require an SSD?
Yes. Steam explicitly marks an SSD as required in both PC tiers. The listing does not publish a minimum capacity, interface standard or installation-size figure, so there is no evidence-based number to use for free-space planning yet.
Install the game on an SSD with enough room for the game client, patches and normal operating-system overhead. If your PC has both a hard disk and an SSD, select the SSD library when installing. An SSD requirement is part of the compatibility profile; it is not an optional performance tweak.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Before release, check these storage details
- Confirm that the drive is detected by Windows and has a healthy amount of free space.
- Make sure the Steam library selected for Phantom Blade Zero is located on the SSD, not on a secondary hard disk.
- Leave additional headroom for launch updates because the store page does not state the final installed size.
- Do not buy a specific SSD capacity solely from an unverified estimate; wait for the final store listing or installer information.
Why the upscaling caveat matters
Both published performance targets include the phrase “with upscaling enabled.” That qualification changes how the numbers should be interpreted. A 1080p output target may be produced from a lower internal render resolution, and the same applies to the 1440p target. Therefore, the Steam text is not evidence of 30 FPS at native 1080p or 60 FPS at native 1440p.
Steam does not name a particular upscaler. Until the game is released and its graphics menu is documented, you cannot assume a specific technology, quality mode or reconstruction setting. If you require native rendering, treat the storefront targets as insufficient information rather than as a guarantee.
How to plan around upscaling
- Use the tier that matches your desired output resolution and frame-rate goal.
- Enable the game’s supported upscaling option if you are trying to reproduce the published target.
- Check the internal-resolution or quality choices, if the final PC build exposes them; Steam does not state which choices will ship.
- Judge image quality and frame pacing in the released game instead of assuming that an output-resolution label describes native rendering.
CPU, RAM, operating system and DirectX checks
Graphics hardware receives most attention, but Steam lists four other conditions that can prevent a system from matching either tier.

Processor
The minimum examples are the Core i7-8700K and Ryzen 5 3600. The recommended examples are the Core i5-10600K and Ryzen 5 5600X. These names are reference points for the complete system profile. A newer or older processor may perform differently even if its model number appears to have a higher or lower tier in a different product family.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck the exact CPU model in Windows before upgrading the graphics card. A GPU upgrade cannot compensate for a processor that cannot maintain the game’s simulation and draw-call workload in a particular scene.
Memory
Both profiles list 16 GB of RAM. Steam does not list a larger amount for the recommended tier. That does not mean every background application will have no effect; it means 16 GB is the published requirement for both profiles. Close unnecessary programs while troubleshooting, and verify that Windows reports the expected installed memory.
Windows edition and bitness
Windows 10 or Windows 11 in 64-bit form is required. A 32-bit Windows installation does not satisfy the stated platform condition. The listing does not identify a specific Windows build number, so keep the operating system current and recheck the game’s launch notes near release.
DirectX 12
DirectX 12 is listed for both tiers. A computer can have a nominally compatible GPU yet fail to meet the game’s API requirement if its driver or operating-system setup does not expose DirectX 12 correctly. Type dxdiag in the Windows search box, open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and review the System and Display tabs. This confirms the installed DirectX version and the graphics device Windows is using; it does not substitute for a game benchmark.

Can my PC run Phantom Blade Zero? A practical compatibility method
Use this process instead of comparing only the GPU name.
- Record your hardware. Open Windows Settings > System > About to note the processor and installed RAM. Open Settings > System > Storage to identify the drive where you would install the game. Use Task Manager > Performance for a quick view of the CPU, memory and GPU.
- Confirm the operating system. In Settings > System > About, verify Windows 10 or Windows 11 and a 64-bit system type.
- Check DirectX 12. Press the Windows key, type
dxdiag, open the tool and confirm the DirectX version on the System tab. Review the Display tab for the active graphics adapter. - Compare the CPU with both examples. Decide whether your processor is near the minimum or recommended class. Do not mark the system compatible when only the GPU matches.
- Compare the GPU and VRAM. Record the exact model and dedicated graphics memory, then compare it with the tier you want. The listed examples are GTX 1660 6GB or RX 5500 XT 8GB for minimum, and RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or RX 6700 XT 12GB for recommended.
- Verify the installation drive. Select an SSD Steam library and allow room for the final game and updates. The required capacity is not published.
- Choose a realistic target. Use the minimum profile as the reference for 1080p/30 with upscaling, or the recommended profile for 1440p/60 with upscaling. If any required row is missing, label the result uncertain rather than definitive.
How to interpret borderline hardware
A system that sits between the two profiles does not have a published performance result. For example, a PC with a recommended-class GPU but a CPU below the recommended examples may be limited by the processor in some situations; the Steam page does not quantify that combination. Likewise, a newer GPU with less VRAM than an example cannot be judged from the model name alone.

- 3 x DisplayPort 1.4a, 1 x HDMI 2.1, DirectX 12 Ultimate, Vulkan RT API, OpenGL 4.6
Use a three-part decision rule:
- Meets all minimum conditions: suitable to try for the 1080p/30 target, with the upscaling qualification and normal scene-to-scene uncertainty.
- Meets all recommended conditions: aligned with the published 1440p/60 target, again with upscaling enabled and no universal guarantee.
- Misses a platform condition: not confirmed by the listing, even if the graphics card appears strong enough.
This approach avoids the common mistake of calling a computer compatible because its GPU appears in a table while ignoring the CPU, RAM, API, operating system or SSD requirement.
Ray tracing and path tracing: what is confirmed?
An unofficial guide reports separate ray-tracing and path-tracing examples, including an RTX 5060 and RTX 5080, and says those targets also assume upscaling. The current Steam requirements page does not list those tiers. They should therefore be treated as unverified until S-GAME publishes the original announcement or adds the information to an official specification page.
Do not use those reported cards as a mandatory purchase recommendation for the base game. The official minimum and recommended profiles contain no separate ray-tracing or path-tracing requirement. If the final PC build exposes enhanced lighting modes, their actual hardware needs should be judged from S-GAME’s own documentation and independent testing after release.
Steam Deck and lower-end systems
In a PC Gamer interview, game director Qiwei “Soulframe” Liang described Steam Deck support as “a hard task.” He also said the team wanted the game to be playable by as many people as possible without reducing quality. Those comments describe development intent, not certification, a frame-rate promise or confirmed Steam Deck compatibility.
The same interview reports that the team was focusing on making the game look as good as possible with ray tracing disabled. That statement does not establish that ray tracing is required, nor does it create an official hardware tier. Until Valve compatibility information, S-GAME guidance or measured tests are available, do not assume that a handheld or a PC below the minimum profile will deliver an acceptable result.
Liang’s quoted statement was: “This year the hardware price is going up, and people who want to replace their hardware may postpone their plan to upgrade their equipment, so we think we need to let the game be played by as many players as possible without reducing the quality.” It is an interview statement about the team’s goal, not a benchmark.

Several details readers often expect in a requirements guide are not published in the current listing:
Best Value
- Final download or installed size.
- A required SSD capacity or interface type.
- Named graphics presets such as Low, High or Ultra.
- Native-resolution performance targets.
- The specific upscaling technology and its quality modes.
- A universal frame-rate guarantee across every gameplay situation.
- An official ray-tracing or path-tracing tier.
- Confirmed Steam Deck support or a Deck frame-rate target.
Do not fill these gaps with guesses. They are items to verify when the final PC build and official documentation are available.

When replacing one component, check whether the rest of the system still satisfies the same target. A recommended GPU installed in a computer with an unsupported operating system or no SSD does not create a confirmed recommended configuration.
Troubleshooting after installation
If the released game performs below the storefront target, work through these checks before assuming a component is defective.

- Confirm the target conditions. Check that the output resolution and frame-rate goal match the tier you selected and that upscaling is enabled when comparing against Steam’s figures.
- Verify the game is on an SSD. In Steam, open the game’s Properties and inspect the installed files location. Move the installation to an SSD library if necessary.
- Update Windows and graphics drivers. DirectX 12 operation depends on the operating-system and driver stack, so install current stable updates before testing again.
- Close competing workloads. Shut down browser tabs, recording tools and other programs that consume CPU or memory while diagnosing frame pacing.
- Check the active GPU. On systems with integrated and discrete graphics, confirm in Task Manager that Phantom Blade Zero is using the intended adapter.
- Compare more than an average frame rate. Observe stutter, loading behavior and frame-time consistency in the same scene; a short result is not a universal benchmark.
- Escalate with complete details. If you contact support, include the CPU, GPU and VRAM, RAM, Windows edition, DirectX information, SSD location and graphics settings so the issue can be reproduced.
These steps can identify configuration problems, but they cannot turn an unsupported combination into an official compatibility result.
Release timing and how to keep the requirements current
Steam lists October 28, 2026 as the release date. Because the requirements are pre-release information, S-GAME could revise the page, add installation details or clarify graphics features before launch. Revisit the official listing close to release and after major patches.
The safest buying decision is to match your entire computer to one of the two official profiles, select an SSD installation, and treat the stated frame rates as upscaled targets rather than native-resolution guarantees. If your system falls between profiles or below one of the platform requirements, wait for final documentation and independent testing instead of relying on a single GPU comparison.
The Bottom Line
For the published 1080p/30 target, start with the minimum CPU and GPU examples, 16 GB RAM, 64-bit Windows 10/11, DirectX 12 and an SSD. For 1440p/60, use the recommended CPU and GPU examples. Both targets require upscaling, and the Steam page does not yet confirm native performance, install size, ray-tracing tiers or Steam Deck support.
