S-GAME has discussed Phantom Blade Zero expansions and sequels as likely possibilities, but it has not announced a titled DLC pack, Phantom Blade Zero 2, or an animated series. The studio is still deciding whether to use 2D animation for select scenes inside the game.
What S-GAME has actually said about future content
In a pre-release interview, S-GAME CEO and creator Soulframe described future content as an expectation rather than a formal production slate. He said:

That statement establishes two priorities. S-GAME wants the launch game to stand on its own, and it already sees unused stories and characters that could support later releases. It does not confirm that a specific expansion or sequel has been approved, funded, titled or scheduled.

DLC and sequel plans: what is known

Why the wording matters
“Can be expected” is broader than a formal announcement. It signals creative intent and room for the franchise to continue, not a guaranteed product schedule. Until S-GAME publishes a project name, development announcement or release plan, reports should describe DLC and sequels as possibilities.
What the base-game promise means
The studio is explicitly resisting a launch model in which essential material is held back for add-ons. Its stated goal is a substantial initial campaign, with later content reserved for stories or characters that do not fit in the first release. That approach leaves open both traditional story expansions and a separate sequel, but gives no indication that either will be required to finish the launch narrative.

Is Phantom Blade Zero becoming an anime series?
There is no confirmed Phantom Blade Zero television series, film or other external animation project. When asked about expanding the game’s animated storytelling, Soulframe said S-GAME was considering 2D animation for “special scenes, such as the memory world, phantom illusions, or other scenes different from reality,” and added that the team was “still figuring it out.”

The Year of the Dragon anime
The Year of the Dragon anime mentioned in the same interview is presented as a self-contained story designed to give audiences a taste of the Phantom Blade series. It is not evidence that an ongoing Phantom Blade Zero anime has been ordered.

S-GAME’s creative-director letter dated June 2, 2026 moved the launch from September 9 to October 29, 2026. PlayStation’s announcement identifies Phantom Blade Zero as a PlayStation 5 game.

The game is a spiritual rebirth of Rainblood rather than a straight remake, with a new and longer story. Players control Soul, an elite assassin framed for killing the Order’s patriarch. After a mystic cure gives him 66 days before it fails, he must find the person behind the conspiracy. The Phantom World combines Chinese kung fu, steampunk-like machinery and occult elements in the style S-GAME calls “Kungfupunk.”

- No named DLC chapter, expansion package or add-on schedule.
- No confirmed post-launch animation project or external adaptation.
- No authoritative budget, sales forecast or production timeline for future content.
- No verified edition, marketplace listing or territory-specific product details beyond the announced PS5 release context.
How to interpret future announcements
When S-GAME provides more detail, the useful distinctions will be whether a project is a new story chapter or a side story, whether it is sold as DLC or released as a standalone game, and whether “animation” means 2D sequences within Phantom Blade Zero or a separate screen production. Timing, platforms and inclusion in the base game will determine what players are actually being offered.
For now, the firmest conclusion is limited but meaningful: S-GAME expects the Phantom Blade series to have room for additional stories, characters and possibly sequels, while keeping Phantom Blade Zero’s launch content substantial. Those plans remain prospective until the studio names and dates a project.
