What distinguished the player and pitcher seasons
Crow-Armstrong combined power and speed
The AP report says Crow-Armstrong joined the 40-40 club, with at least 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in the season. He tied for the major-league lead in home runs, ranked second in OPS and fourth in RBIs, according to that report. These figures describe his season; the report did not identify a particular statistic as the reason voters chose him.

How the voting and award history break down
A panel of baseball writers, broadcasters, reporters and researchers—including several former players, managers and executives—selected the winners, according to the AP. Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez finished second to Crow-Armstrong; New York Yankees right-hander Cam Schlittler was runner-up to Misiorowski; and Cleveland Guardians closer Cade Smith finished second to Miller. The report does not give a full ballot-scoring method, so the first-place-vote totals should not be treated as a complete account of how every ballot was scored.
