Play Persona 4 Golden if you want to start now; consider Persona 4 Revival if you can wait for its announced 2027 release and want the modernized presentation and systems ATLUS and SEGA describe. Revival is officially a remake of Golden, not a confirmed remake of the original Persona 4 alone. Its story is described as retaining the original story line, but the unreleased game’s full content and quality cannot yet be judged.

The basic setting and premise are familiar: the story centers on a rural town, a serial-murder mystery and the Midnight Channel, with students investigating using Persona abilities while balancing school life. ATLUS describes Revival’s premise; Golden’s Steam listing describes its Inaba setting and coming-of-age story.

When and where can you play them?
As of October 3, 2026, Revival has not been released. SEGA’s English announcement gives a February 18, 2027 release date for Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 5 and Steam. ATLUS’s official site also lists Nintendo Switch 2, dated May 20, 2027. Check the official pages and local storefronts for changes or regional availability.

Persona 4 Golden is available on Steam; its listing identifies ATLUS as developer, SEGA as publisher and June 13, 2020 as its PC release date. That listing establishes the PC version, not availability on every other platform. View Persona 4 Golden on Steam.
Physical editions
SEGA Japan’s product page identifies boxed versions for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. It lists a PS5 Limited Box containing the physical base game, a 48-page artbook, a Midnight Channel phone pouch, an original T-shirt, a designer box and a costume set. Which should you play?
Choose Persona 4 Golden if you want to play now
Golden is the available choice for someone ready to begin rather than wait for Revival. Its Steam listing presents the rural Inaba coming-of-age story and serial-murder mystery. Check the Steam listing.

Waiting makes sense if modernized visuals and UI, updated combat and events, and new music are what you want, and you are comfortable with the announced 2027 dates. This is a choice about timing and stated features, not evidence that Revival is better: the game has not been released, so its finished quality and performance are not established.

ATLUS says Revival keeps the original story line. That supports treating it as another way to experience the core story, but does not confirm how completely it preserves Golden-only scenes or side features. There is no confirmed need to play Golden first.
