In Persona 4 Golden, Social Links become available through story events, quests, or individual conditions; point-based links rank up when you spend time with the character and earn enough relationship points. Check who is available before using a day, choose dialogue responses carefully, and carry a Persona of the matching Arcana to improve eligible point gains. Not every link follows the same progression path, so a single point-earning strategy will not work for all of them.
How Social Link progression works
Atlus describes Social Links as relationships that can develop through how you spend your days, including meeting friends, working part-time, and studying. In practice, think of progression as two separate questions: how a link becomes available, and what advances it once it is available.

Unlocking a link
A relationship may open through story progress, a quest, or an individual condition. The Steam Community guide Complete Social Link Schedule counts 23 Social Links and classifies three as story-progress links, two as quest-linked, and the rest as point-based. That is the guide’s count and classification, not an official Atlus tally.
Ranking up
For point-based links, spend time with the character and earn relationship points. Dialogue choices affect the points gained, and carrying a Persona of the same Arcana can increase gains during eligible interactions. Some story-progress links rank automatically as events advance, rather than using the same point-earning process as regular links.

Make each available day count
Point gains help only when the character can be met. The Steam Community schedule guide and GameFAQs walkthrough both describe availability schedules for point-based links, so check the day and the character’s schedule before committing a time slot. A link that is unavailable cannot benefit from a matching Persona or a good dialogue choice.

- Check availability first. Use a schedule guide to see whether the character can be met that day; do not assume a link is available whenever you want to advance it.
- Bring a matching-Arcana Persona. Before an eligible interaction, make sure a Persona matching the character’s Arcana is carried. The community mechanics guide says this can improve point gains; it does not establish that the bonus applies to every link or every event.
- Choose responses deliberately. Dialogue choices affect points for point-based links. When a rank does not advance, it may simply mean the interaction did not supply enough points yet.
- Track what remains. Record the last rank reached and whether the link is point-based, quest-linked, or story-progress. This helps distinguish a need for more points from a progression trigger that has not happened.
What ranks unlock
The Steam Community guide Persona 4 Golden Social Links describes Rank 10 as unlocking the Arcana’s ultimate Persona. For party-member Social Links, the guide also describes Persona evolution as a reward. Treat these as the rewards reported by that community guide; the supplied official overview confirms the role of Social Links generally, but does not provide a complete reward table.

The sources named here support the overall systems, but they do not establish every character’s exact unlock trigger, rank threshold, dialogue answer, deadline, or a reliable perfect-max calendar route. The schedule guide is useful for broad availability and progression categories; it is not enough on its own to safely supply a fully verified, date-by-date walkthrough for every link. Check a detailed route for the relevant game version before relying on a specific answer or deadline.
