Dead of the Brain is scheduled to arrive on Steam on October 30, 2026, according to the Japanese Steam listing and an October 8 report from AUTOMATON WEST. There is a storefront discrepancy: the English Steam page still lists the release date as “To be announced.”
What is Dead of the Brain?
Originally released in 1992 for NEC’s PC-98, Dead of the Brain is an adventure game from Japanese developer FairyTale. FAKKU is listed as the publisher of the Steam re-release.

The story follows Cole, who learns that his scientist friend Dr. Cooger has developed a serum capable of bringing the dead back to life. The revived do not return as their former selves, and the resulting zombie outbreak sets up the game’s survival-horror plot.

Steam describes a mix of point-and-click adventure, visual-novel scenes and quick-time events. The listing also advertises optional hover hints and clickable-area aids for players who want help finding interactive parts of a scene. These are features described on the store page, not independently tested gameplay observations.

The re-release aims to preserve the original interface and mechanics. The Steam description cautions that the decades-old design may feel clunky by modern standards, so this is likely a better fit for players interested in vintage adventure conventions than for anyone expecting a contemporary horror game’s controls and pacing.
English support, content notice and system requirements
The English Steam listing specifies English interface and subtitles. It does not indicate full voice audio. The Japanese listing also shows Japanese and Simplified Chinese interface and subtitle support.
