What do you get for trading in an old gaming console?
Under PayMore’s announced “Level Up” promotion, a qualifying console or gaming system earns the seller the store’s regular cash offer plus a $10 PayMore promotional gift card. In Canada, the bonus is $10 CAD. PayMore says there is no limit on the number of bonuses a customer can earn, but that does not establish which systems qualify or whether every store is participating. A PayMore Massapequa store page separately advertises a $10 bonus gift card for qualifying console sales and mentions cash or store-credit trade-ins. That is a local offer page, not proof that every PayMore location follows identical terms.
Why does PayMore say gamers are upgrading?
PayMore frames the promotion around several hardware changes. The company points to the announced November 19, 2026 release of Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, saying owners still using PlayStation 4 or Xbox One would need to move to a supported console to play it. It also cites Nintendo Switch 2 as a reason some original Switch owners may consider upgrading. These are PayMore’s stated reasons for the campaign, not independent evidence of a broader upgrade trend. The announcement supplies that framing.

PayMore also says its U.S. stores bought nearly 10,000 gaming systems from consumers in one recent month, returning hundreds of thousands of dollars to customers. The company does not identify the month or provide transaction data in the announcement. It further says thousands of systems move through its stores month after month, including during the 2025 holiday quarter. These are company-reported figures about PayMore’s own stores; they should not be read as measurements of the overall resale market.

It can contribute, but the promotion does not establish the total cost of replacing a particular system. The amount depends on the local store’s cash offer for the hardware and on the price of the console you want to buy. PayMore executives describe resale value as a way to offset an upgrade: CEO Stephen Preuss said the company aims to make value in replaced technology accessible, while President and Co-Founder Erik Helgesen said a system being replaced may still have demand and resale value. Those statements reflect the company’s perspective, not independent consumer research.

Before deciding, compare three things:
- Game compatibility: Check whether the games you want to play run on your current system or require different hardware.
- Your actual trade-in offer: Ask the local store whether it is participating, whether your model qualifies, and what it will pay for your console in its current condition.
- Your complete upgrade cost: Compare the purchase price of the replacement system with the cash offer and account for the gift card separately; it is not cash and may not reduce the purchase price unless you use it toward an eligible purchase.
The available PayMore sources do not establish current market prices, model-specific trade-in values, or which console offers the best value. Treat the store’s quote and the replacement system’s price as separate figures until you know the exact terms.

What to confirm before visiting a PayMore store
- Whether the location is participating in “Level Up” during October 5–November 20, 2026.
- Whether your specific console or gaming system qualifies, including any condition or accessory requirements.
- The regular cash offer and how it is determined.
