Start on an Official Server in your preferred region, choose a dinosaur by the role you actually enjoy, and treat your first character as a learning project rather than a permanent commitment. Path of Titans is a cross-platform dinosaur MMO in which you grow from a juvenile toward adulthood by completing quests, exploring, managing resources and surviving encounters with other players. Servers can hold up to 200 players, and each species has abilities that create a different way to move, fight, hunt or support a group.
This guide explains the practical choices that matter first: how Official and Community Servers differ, how to select a first dinosaur without relying on an unsupported “best starter” ranking, how Marks and ability slots work, what death does to your progress, and how to play with friends on other supported platforms.

What kind of game is Path of Titans?
Path of Titans is an online survival MMO built around playable dinosaurs rather than a conventional class system. You select a species, enter a shared world, complete activities and grow toward adulthood. The official product description says a server can support up to 200 players, so the world may contain anything from quiet solo exploration to sudden encounters with groups of other dinosaurs.

Progression is activity-based rather than a linear campaign. Quests, exploration and other survival tasks move a character through growth stages, while Marks unlock abilities. You can eventually adjust a build instead of being locked into one permanent skill tree.
Official or Community Server: which should a beginner choose?
Choose an Official Server first if you want the standard rules, normal regional matchmaking and the least setup. Official Servers are operated by Alderon Games, do not use gameplay modifications and share your characters across Official Servers. They are the clearest baseline for learning how growth, quests, combat and abilities are intended to work.
A Community Server can be better when you specifically want custom rules, modified progression, extra content or a particular social culture. Community Servers are hosted by members of the community and may add maps, dinosaurs, mods, custom statistics, different game modes or server-specific restrictions. Those changes can make the game feel substantially different, so read the server’s rules before creating a character you intend to keep there.

| Decision point | Official Server | Community Server |
|---|---|---|
| Operator | Run by Alderon Games | Hosted by community members |
| Rules and balance | Standard game rules | Defined by the individual server; may be heavily customized |
| Mods and extra content | No gameplay modifications | May include mods, additional maps or dinosaurs, custom stats and other changes |
| Joining method | Normal matchmaking in a selected region | Browse and select available servers |
| Regional focus | Region-specific servers are used to improve connection quality | Depends on the host’s configuration and physical location |
| Character continuity | Characters are shared across Official Servers | Progress and rules are tied to the community server’s setup |
Why Official Servers are the safest starting point
Official Servers remove variables while you learn. If a quest, ability or growth behavior seems unfamiliar, you are dealing with the standard rules rather than a host’s custom multiplier or mod. Select the region geographically closest to you when the game offers a choice; a shorter network path generally gives you a more responsive experience than choosing a distant region simply because it has a larger-looking population.
When a Community Server makes sense
Use a Community Server when you have a clear reason, such as joining friends who already play there, trying a custom map, or seeking a different growth pace or game mode. Check its current rules, required downloads, restart schedule, moderation policy and whether characters are wiped or reset. Do not assume that knowledge from an Official Server transfers perfectly: altered damage, growth, quest rewards or creature availability can change the decisions you need to make.
How to join your first server
- Install and launch the game on a supported platform. Create or sign in to the account the game requests so your characters and platform access are associated correctly.
- Open the multiplayer server browser or matchmaking screen. For the standard experience, choose Official Servers and select a nearby region. For a custom experience, browse Community Servers and inspect the server’s description and rules.
- Read the rules before confirming. Look for restrictions on grouping, player-versus-player combat, species, mods, chat and progression. A server’s name alone is not a reliable description of its current settings.
- Create a character after selecting the server type. On a Community Server, create the character only after you understand whether its progress is isolated from your Official Server characters.
- Record the server or region you used. This makes it easier to return to friends and to troubleshoot a connection problem without accidentally joining a different ruleset.
Community Servers remain browsable and selectable, while Official Servers use matchmaking. Availability and population can change, so no community server should be treated as permanently active without checking it at the time you play.

There is no official universal “best beginner dinosaur.” The official material explains that every species has its own abilities, skills and gameplay style, but it does not publish a beginner difficulty ranking or a species win-rate table. Choose by role instead of by an unverified tier list.

| If you enjoy… | Look for a dinosaur built around… | What to practice first |
|---|---|---|
| Escaping danger and covering ground | Speed, acceleration, stamina management or maneuverability | Reading terrain, identifying escape routes and avoiding fights that remove your mobility advantage |
| Direct fights | Defensive traits, reliable attacks or sustained combat ability | Spacing, attack timing, stamina conservation and recognizing when to disengage |
| Playing with friends | Pack or herd utility and abilities that help nearby allies | Staying with the group, communicating targets and avoiding isolated chases |
| Water and shoreline routes | Semi-aquatic or aquatic characteristics where available | Planning transitions between land and water and learning which resources are safe to reach |
| Quiet exploration | A forgiving travel and survival profile rather than maximum damage | Quest routing, hiding places, resource awareness and when to avoid populated areas |
A simple selection test
- Pick your preferred risk. Fast species can avoid some encounters but may be less comfortable in a prolonged fight; durable species can withstand pressure but may have a harder time escaping a bad position.
- Decide whether you will mostly play alone. A group-oriented ability is more valuable when friends are online, while a self-sufficient profile may be easier for a solo learner.
- Choose land, shoreline or water movement. A creature whose environment matches the routes you enjoy will teach you faster than a supposedly strong species you dislike controlling.
- Test the feel, not a community ranking. Spend a short session learning movement, attacks and resource needs. If the controls and pace feel wrong, try another species rather than forcing the first choice.
More than 30 dinosaur species are listed in the official press material, so “beginner” is better understood as a playstyle match than a single recommended name. The right first dinosaur is the one whose strengths encourage you to learn positioning, quests and survival fundamentals.
Your first session: a practical survival route
Spawn and orient yourself
When you enter the world, resist the urge to sprint toward the nearest visible player. First identify nearby terrain, water access, cover and the direction in which quests are sending you. Learn how your dinosaur turns, accelerates, stops and recovers stamina before you commit to a long journey.
Follow quests while learning the map
Quests are a core growth activity. Use them to create a route rather than wandering randomly: finish objectives that are close together, note safe landmarks and avoid crossing exposed areas when you are carrying progress you do not want to lose. Exploration is valuable, but a route that repeatedly sends you through crowded territory can cost more time than it earns.
Manage risk around other players
Other players are part of the world’s survival pressure. Some encounters are cooperative, while others can become PvP. Watch for signs that a group is coordinating, keep an escape direction available and do not chase an opponent so far that you lose access to water, cover or your quest area. A fight you decline can be a successful decision if your objective is growth.
Use groups deliberately
If you join friends or nearby players, agree on a simple plan: where to meet, which quest area to use and what to do if someone is separated. Group play is not automatically safer; a large group can attract attention and make every player responsible for staying together. Choose a species whose abilities support the way your group actually behaves.
Growth, Marks and what death means
Characters progress from egg or juvenile stages toward adulthood. Official release information describes quests, skins and abilities as parts of this growth journey, while the press material also identifies hunting other players as one possible way to grow in size and power. You should therefore expect a mixture of exploration, resource and quest routing, and occasional PvP risk rather than a scripted campaign with fixed missions.
On Official Servers, permadeath is not enabled. Death can interrupt a growth route and cost time, but it does not permanently delete the character under that rule. Treat a death as information: identify whether positioning, stamina, route choice or a risky fight caused it, then change one of those decisions on the next attempt.

Abilities, slots and the Home Cave
Abilities are traits or attacks that you equip to shape a dinosaur’s role. Unlocking an ability and equipping it are separate actions: Marks unlock options, while the Ability menu and your available slots determine what is active. An active ability must be placed in the ability bar before you can use it.
The nine ability slot categories
| Slot category | What it represents |
|---|---|
| Head | Head-related traits or attacks |
| Senses | Perception and information-oriented abilities |
| Arm | Arm-based traits or attacks where the species supports them |
| Front Limb | Front-limb abilities |
| Metabolism | Traits affecting the dinosaur’s metabolic profile |
| Back Limb | Back-limb abilities |
| Leg | Leg-related movement or combat options |
| Tail | Tail abilities |
| Voice | Voice and communication-related options |
Not every slot is available immediately. On servers with Growth enabled, later growth stages unlock additional slots. That makes early Marks most useful when they reinforce the role you are already playing, while later Home Cave visits let you broaden or specialize the build as new slots appear.
How to equip an ability
- Earn enough Marks through normal play. Quests and other gameplay activities provide the progression used to unlock ability options.
- Travel to a Home Cave. Equipping or changing active abilities requires you to be inside your Home Cave.
- Open the Character menu and then the Ability menu. Review which abilities are unlocked and which slots are currently available.
- Select an ability that supports your role. A mobility-focused dinosaur should prioritize options that preserve escape or travel strengths; a combat-focused dinosaur may value reliable damage or defense; a group character can favor utility that benefits coordinated play.
- Place the selected ability in the correct slot and ability bar position. Confirm that it is active before leaving the cave.
- Test the change safely. Practice the input and observe stamina, cooldown or positioning effects away from a dangerous fight. Return to the Home Cave when you want to change the loadout again.
Do not spend every early Mark simply because an option is available. Ask whether it solves a problem you are actually encountering. A build that makes travel safer or lets you survive a mistake can be more valuable to a beginner than a high-risk attack that is difficult to land.
Playing with friends across platforms
Supported platforms connect to the same servers, enabling cross-platform play. The official platform list includes Windows 10 and 11, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Current product information also includes Nintendo Switch availability and cross-platform play.
| Platform family | Supported versions listed by the official information |
|---|---|
| PC | Windows 10/11, macOS and Linux |
| Mobile | Android and iOS |
| Xbox | Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X |
| PlayStation | PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 |
| Nintendo | Nintendo Switch |
A reliable cross-play setup
- Update the game on every device. Different versions can prevent friends from seeing the same server or joining the same session.
- Use the same server type and region. If one player enters an Official Server and another selects a Community Server, they are not in the same ruleset. For the best connection, choose a region that is reasonable for the whole group.
- Exchange account or in-game friend details using the game’s current social interface. Platform-native friend lists do not always replace the game’s own account and server joining flow.
- Meet in a low-risk location. Agree on a landmark or quest area before splitting up, and remember that a character’s species and growth stage can affect how easily the group travels together.
- Use voice or text communication responsibly. Clear callouts about direction, water, threats and regrouping matter more than having identical dinosaurs.
Control preferences can differ substantially between mouse and keyboard, touch controls and a gamepad. Pick a species whose movement and combat demands fit the controls you are using, especially if you are new to an input method.
Common beginner mistakes and fixes
Choosing a server only because it looks busy
Problem: A high population can mean more interaction, but also more competition and unpredictable fights.
Fix: Start with an Official Server in a nearby region, then choose a Community Server for a specific rule or social reason. Population should be one factor, not the entire decision.

Fix: Read its rule page and restart or wipe policy before investing time. Keep expectations separate from your Official Server experience.
Buying an ability without a role in mind
Problem: Marks are spent on an option that does not solve your actual weakness.
Fix: Identify whether you are losing fights because of exposure, stamina, poor positioning, lack of damage or weak group coordination. Choose the ability that addresses that specific problem and equip it from a Home Cave.

Problem: Chasing another player can pull you away from quests, cover and escape routes.
Fix: Keep an exit route, watch stamina and disengage when the fight no longer serves your objective. Official Server death is not permanent, but repeated interruptions slow growth.
Expecting a linear campaign
Problem: A new player waits for a fixed story path and misses the value of exploration and route planning.
Fix: Treat quests as navigation and growth tools. Build repeatable routes, learn landmarks and adapt when another group controls an area.
Assuming cross-play means identical controls
Problem: A build that feels manageable with a mouse and keyboard may be harder to operate on touch or a controller.
Fix: Test movement, camera control and ability activation in a safe area. Choose a role that matches the precision and comfort of your device.
A first-week learning plan
Session one: learn survival basics
- Use an Official Server in a nearby region.
- Learn movement, stamina, camera control and the route to water or other essential resources.
- Complete nearby quests without seeking unnecessary PvP.
- Notice which situations make you feel vulnerable: open ground, low stamina, crowded routes or difficult controls.
Sessions two and three: define your role
- Decide whether mobility, defense, combat, group utility or aquatic travel is most enjoyable.
- Try a second species if the first one’s pace or controls do not fit.
- Join friends for a short route and practice regrouping rather than chasing every encounter.
- Save Marks for abilities that directly support the role you selected.
After you understand the baseline
- Visit the Home Cave to review unlocked abilities and available slots.
- Experiment with a Community Server only after reading its rules and understanding how its progression differs.
- Adjust your build as growth unlocks more slots instead of treating the first loadout as permanent.
The most useful beginner habit is deliberate experimentation: change one variable at a time, observe what happened and keep the server, role and ability choices that make the game easier for you to understand.
