How to choose between Paramount+ and HBO Max
- Check the titles first. Search each service for the specific films, franchises and series you want. Catalogs change, and the official plan pages do not establish a current, comparable inventory of movies and scripted TV.
- Match sports to the event. Identify the exact league, competition and matchup, then check the current schedule, required plan and local availability. Neither service promises every event from a named league.
- Compare the tiers your household needs. Include ads, streams, downloads and video quality if those features matter to you, rather than comparing entry prices alone.

As of the official provider pages accessed in 2026, Paramount+ starts at $8.99 per month and advertises Premium at $13.99 per month. HBO Max lists Basic with Ads at $10.99 per month, Standard at $18.49 per month and Premium at $22.99 per month; taxes may apply. These are advertised monthly prices, not a like-for-like comparison: the services include different libraries and sports, and HBO Max’s entry plan is ad-supported. HBO Max’s listed sports plans also vary in video and household features, so Standard may be enough if you need live sports but not Premium’s higher stream count or 4K support. Which service is better for live sports?
Choose Paramount+ for its listed CBS, soccer and UFC coverage
Paramount+ promotes live and on-demand UFC events, UEFA Champions League, Serie A and other soccer, NFL on CBS—including local games and featured national matchups—and college football on CBS. Paramount+ says Premium is required for the promoted live college football on CBS. Premium also includes the local CBS station in its live-TV offering. Its ad-free description applies to SHOWTIME on-demand, not live TV.

Choose HBO Max for its selected live events, on a qualifying plan
HBO Max lists selected live events including MLB, NHL, NCAA Men’s March Madness, U.S. Soccer and premier cycling. Live sports are included with Standard and Premium, but not Basic with Ads. The listing describes selected events, not complete access to every game or competition.

Which service is better for movies and TV?
The available official sources do not provide a dated, title-by-title comparison that supports naming either service the general winner for movies or scripted television. - Consider Paramount+ if its lower advertised starting price matters, your must-watch titles are available there, or the specific CBS, soccer or UFC event you want is listed on a suitable plan.
