TheWrap reported the project on October 8, 2026, naming producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and CD PROJEKT RED, the game’s developer and franchise rights holder, as a producer on the film. As of this report, neither Paramount nor CD PROJEKT RED has published an announcement that matches the trade report, so the project should be treated as reported rather than officially confirmed.
What TheWrap reported
According to TheWrap’s October 8, 2026 article, Paramount is developing a feature-film adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077. The report names Lorenzo di Bonaventura as an attached producer and says CD PROJEKT RED will also produce. Those are the only creative and corporate roles the report establishes.

The article does not give a release date, a filming schedule, a director, a screenwriter, a plot outline, or a confirmed cast. It also does not quote a named person on the record. Any claim beyond the producer roles is speculation until Paramount or CD PROJEKT RED says otherwise.

Is Keanu Reeves in the Cyberpunk 2077 film?
Nothing reported so far confirms it. TheWrap states that Keanu Reeves’ return is unknown. Reeves voiced Johnny Silverhand in the game, but readers should not assume he will appear in the film, and no source establishes a character, role, or casting deal for him.

Two separate Cyberpunk film projects
Readers who saw an earlier Cyberpunk live-action announcement may wonder whether it is the same film. The two records are different, and the available reporting does not establish how they relate.
On October 5, 2023, CD PROJEKT RED announced a live-action project developed with Anonymous Content. The company said at that time: “The new project is at an early development stage and has currently commenced searching for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.” An August 29, 2025 CD PROJEKT investor chat still referred to that co-produced live-action movie as a previously announced project.

Sales figures to use with care
CD PROJEKT’s 2025 annual report states that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold over 35 million copies, a milestone the company announced on November 26, 2025. That is the most attributable figure for the base game’s sales.

TheWrap’s October 2026 article cites higher sales numbers for the game and for its Phantom Liberty expansion. Those figures are dated differently and cover a different scope, so they should not be swapped for the 35 million figure in a like-for-like comparison.
Where to read about the game
The film news does not require playing the game. The movie is not presented as a retelling of the game’s plot, and the reporting says nothing about a film-to-game tie-in. For readers who want the source material, the game itself is the primary option. CD PROJEKT’s annual report identifies it as a major product and lists physical boxed editions among its distribution formats.
For a related reading option, CD PROJEKT RED identified Cyberpunk 2077: NO_COINCIDENCE by Rafał Kosik as a published novel in its 2023 announcement. It is a separate tie-in book, not source material for the Paramount project.

What would change this picture
- An official Paramount or CD PROJEKT RED announcement confirming the project and its roles.
- A named director or screenwriter, or a filming start, reported by an authoritative source.
- A statement clarifying whether the Anonymous Content project was replaced, continued, or is unrelated.
- Confirmed casting, including any decision on Keanu Reeves.
Until one of those appears, the verifiable facts are the October 8, 2026 TheWrap report, the producer roles it names, and the separate 2023 Anonymous Content announcement.
